I think it’s sad that people are insulting her. It’s obvious that Connie sang it better because it is her song. The point of a cover isn’t to try to sing it better than the original artist but to have fun singing a song you enjoy. I think she’s just showing appreciation for Connie’s song. People are too hard on Ariana, she was basically still a kid when she sang this. She isn’t weak or bad, she just needed to mature. People need to stop being so critical.
This was beautifully performed. I am glad to see there are some young artists and fans who appreciate the beauty of these golden oldies.

I was just listening to the original again when one of the videos shown on the right was this one & had to click on it. I only know Connie Francis from an infomercial I saw when I was around 12 or so (I'm 30 now). Was quite surprised to find that this song is being covered by more modern musicians. Original was better...but now I need to scour CZcams for other versions!!

The difference is singers of the past were held to a much higher standard than singers today. They could sing their songs live at any given moment without much preparation before the performance and sound incredible because they were trained to be that way. Nowadays these girls don't often give live performances because they don't sound as good live as they do on their records because technology makes it okay to not have to strive for perfection when a vocal performance is given. Auto tune corrects every flaw that occurs during a recording. That being said Ariana is one of the few around that actually have some ability and is one of the very few belters of her generation.
@@nicholastroutman5931 It's not a higher standard, it's a different standard. The preferred singing style today is heavily influenced by rap vocals, and the emphasis is more on changing up the pace of the vocals in interesting ways in different parts of songs, and in how you work with other singers when collaborating on songs instead of being a soloist able to hold a note for an eternity. Plenty of people prefer this way of singing to the old belt-it-out style.

This is a live performance and people are comparing it to a recording manufactured in a recording studio, I am not a big fan of Ariana Grande but I must say that her performance here is very good, put her in a recording studio singing this song and the result would be very little differance
Connie Francis sings this song live to a room full of soldiers . It’s in black and white. The sound isn’t the greatest, but you can still feel her heart in the song and oh...she absolutely commands the room. That’s the difference between Connie and Arianas rendition. Ariana does a good cover, but Connies unique voice makes you feel her insecurities and hope that someone waits just for her. You don’t feel that with AG version.

Certain songs belong to certain artists and this one will ALWAYS belong to Connie Francis, who sang it, and Neil Sedaka, who wrote it.
