  • Meditation has been scientifically proven to have many health benefits, like reduced anxiety and better emotional health. While this is great, I also see many people struggling with incorporating meditation in their daily routines.

Buddhist monk and 15 year meditator here. Interesting video with some good points and good quotes from Buddha Gotama. The first thing people who want to start meditating should know is that it is HARD, and it's supposed to be HARD, once you realize that then you'll go into it with less worry and judgement when you can't do something as "simple" as following the breath :).
Even if you've been meditating for many years, your mind can still be a "monkey mind" a good portion of the time, especially during the day if you are not practicing mindfulness in all your activities. Your mind will STILL try to convince you not to meditate and to do something more "fun" or "interesting" instead. For a seasoned practitioner it just happens less because you take things less personally and worry less, so the mind has less to want to mull over and plan for. Your mind has also seen the benefits of being calm and quiet and how much less suffering it is, but you're not quite wise enough yet to totally let go of all the "fun" stuff that agitates the mind.

Found out through research that meditation can cause heightened productivity and success. If you can stay in a meditative state where your mind is quiet but alert for long periods of time your mind starts staying in that state outside meditation allowing some form of cognitive intuition that your normally not aware of to flow to your conscious awareness but you can only become aware of it when your mind is quiet. Its like experiencing aha moments 24/7

@Time to Reason Everyone meditates for different reasons. Knowing the true nature of my existence isnt anything that interests me, cause this existence is pretty pointless, even with meditation. Being a better version of myself on the other hand... thats something i could try to work on, by meditating and becoming aware of.. well. Myself.

    • @vvelvettearss
      @vvelvettearss Před 4 lety +2

ah so that explains why I'm feeling calmer and in control more often. It really is a great feeling even if im not ok every day I realised I have the ability to not panic and worry and overthink til it knocks me down in tears unless i sleep it off and happen upon something that works.
(Sorry for rant) living like that was hell and it started from when my mind first began to register the world from sleep mode (so i meditate in bed before I'm up)
Knowing the ability exists to not be a slave to this mentality I can't tell you how much of a joyous relief it is. I just feel like I'm living life as I am supposed to and harnessing control over my emotions even when I think I'm right, it softens my responses
I've also learnt not to rush life and its not about doing everything but just about being for the human on earth that you are and being grateful for the gifts life brings, however small
I'm improving my relationship with my cat (lol) and I mustered the energy to paint my wall in a process of making my living environment nicer to be in. I even walk a little more and have started producing art and recording guitar again. Ive been meditating for the past month or so it really has changed my outlook on life for the better
I think it does make you more productive and this isn't a bad thing at all.
You can balance a state of being and acceptance of yourself with self care and working hard to achieve your goals that mean something to you
I think the people that caution against not using it for materialistic gain are completely right but it doesnt mean we cant enjoy what we have or if it comes our way and so we should! just not get overly fixated or reliant on any one thing or person.
oh and i also use house work and exercise to meditate as well. its calming

Also the mind likes to keep you in the illusion that meditation is a verb, action or doing, that requires results , attainments and rewards!
Meditation is a humans natural state of being, the process allows the individual to transition from the thinker to the observer, when this transition is ingrained and an individual identifies with and operates from their true essence of awareness, that which allows the manifestations of thoughts and feelings, then formal meditation falls away and a natural ability to live in harmony with life remains 🙏🏽

This is true though, I observed why successful people are successful it is because they mastered their craft. But how did they mastered their craft? Because when they are doing what they are doing, their mind is automatically in a meditative learning state. They have a clear focus, and direction to what they are doing. Our whole idea meditation is sitting in lotus or indian sit, when the meditative state is a natural state of human life. It is when we everything just makes sense, when you suddenly ace your test in school, suddenly do your job well that day, suddenly attracting and being a social magnet to people.
Even intellectual people are in a meditative state when they are in their thinking process. Successful people are able to accomplish their tasks through being in their meditative state. Our mind hates meditation because it goes against our default mode, our mind is like a child that constantly wonders and doesn't know how to stay still.
That's the core of meditation, of course there is also the esoteric aspect of when you meditate, close your eyes, eject yourself from the body, realize that everything is one whole consciousness experiencing itself into multiple forms, and that we are one. Then that's satori or enlightenment, then there is also the other type of meditation where you shift your reality into other channels and go to other worlds, DMT and Ayahuasca is able to accomplish this.

There are sessions for five and ten minutes and also for every part of your day like when you are commuting for example or when you are taking a break from work. It is very individual but this app worked wonders for me. Maybe it is because it enabled me to include meditation in my bussy schedule. I've been meditating for two weeks every day and my anxietty becomes less and less gradually. I actually started enjoying my life, something that sadly wasn't happening in a very long time. If you are doing too much thinking, the Ego doesn't want to 'step down'.
It's controlling the 'mechanism' and doesn't want to surrender its
primacy. It is an actual process. Suggestion: Develop a series of
mantra's, words or simple sentences' that repeat until you can
surpress the Ego's need for primacy. You can't think of 2 thoughts
at the same time, so the mantra will suppress the thoughts of
the Ego which is producing it's own thoughts. You may have to
repeat your mantra's for up to 20 minutes. But at some point the
Ego's thinking will begin to slow down! At this point, if you suppress
all thought, you'll will exist in the world of non thought while still
having awareness. I think many use drugs to attain this state,
but once you practice it will become easier. You should do this
daily or twice a day and it will be easier to reach this state.
    Good luck, all~

I think I am addicted to thinking. I did meditation yesterday morning for 30 minutes and it was refreshing. I tried it in the evening but I failed; my mind is too busy. Today I did a 1 hour meditation; It's very satisfying. I've read a bit about Eckhart Tolle's book "The Power of Now". You can think of it this way ' our mind is not us since it can only think of the future and the past most of the time; so we haveto dettach ourselves from it. During meditation I just observe what comes in my thoughts like a 3rd party just watching a television until they are gone. I am 25 yrs old and I dont mind doing this for another 50 yrs to keep myself sane and in a state of peace.

The spiritual life and evolution is a very very delicate path towards Enlightenment. We ( humans ) are born with stresses and strain in our phisiology . And we live with those stresses . Now when a person learns meditation ( Transcendental Meditation which is the best of all techniques) the rest brings up and removes the stresses from the body BUT sometimes the stress is so powerful and intelligent that the human gets down and leaves Meditation . 1:0 to the stress . Sometimes stresses are so bad that when we are re live it while releasing time we stop to meditate to stop experiencing the stress again ( first we lived it when we got it ) . So the person in his weakness and lack of proper knowledge leaves the technique and continues life of accumulating stress . Only the very few brave , strong , integrated individuals with proper and clear knowledge can and will continue to practice regularly JAI GURU DEVA

Nice video, thx for uploading. Years ago an analogy came to mind: ah, see, the mind is capable of interesting thoughts! :) Besides, the mind is far, far, far more huge than we can imagine. There are thoughts and experiences of many lifetimes hidden away in there. So just a few minutes of seeming calmness of the mind can be deceptive if we don't change our attitude and behavior while functioning in life.
Ah, where was I, yes the analogy: say you have a big glass jar full of flies, they are flying all over the jar, so can hardly even see through the jar. Put some honey at the bottom and in no time the flies have all gathered down below!!! So, the moral of the story, is that thoughts need something to be attracted to!!! If people believe in a manthra the manthra is honey for the mind so to speak. (oh it is not maantra; it is munthra, the mun rhyming with fun. Mun is a Hindi version of the Sanskrit Manas, which means mind. So a manthra is a tool for the mind. If they focus on a manthra repetitively, particularly if they have great faith in it, well that will work well.
I've used manthras at times, my favorite being Om Namah Shivaaya. Om Namah while breathing in and Shivaaaaya breathing out. But often I drop the manthra, just focus on the belly breath as taught in Zen. Many people don't know that Zen is derived from the Sanskrit Dhyaana; a south Indian monk crossed the Himalayas and went to China and established Dhyaan there, renamed as Chaan. Dhyaana is to meditate. I like, well, love, the Zen approach of relax, let go, relax, let go, just observe everything with no control. Zen derives from Taoism, really. A Zen master once called the name Buddha a dirty word! It is such a wonderful feeling, Zen meditation. You *become* the meditation and no longer *try to meditate.* Relax, let go, there's nothing to be accomplished; a mountain was a mountain before you started meditation and it will still be a mountain after you're done! Namasthe!

I used to be unparalleled at meditation and emotional control.
On my family and peers, the key is to feel everything to the fullest, balancing the polarity of your thoughts.
For example, if something bad or negative action is directed or applyd to you, you must apply equal opposite energy to it.
By doing so, you will neutralize it's result 100% of the time.
The key to success in life is the opposite. You must unbalance and destabilize the world arond you while maintaining balance within you.
And only allow balance if it absolutely benefits you.
    Easier said then done.

Between the restlessness of emotions and the strong distractions of the intellect, the mind can be a ferocious beast that absolutely refuses to stand still, let alone moderate itself. However, he was right about concentrating on the breath, because it takes you out of the habits of the mind. Once you are out the routine, then you can observe or rather let the thoughts go by. It feels that we must keep fighting with our strength to keep from going under. Instead of flailing with effort to keep afloat, we must trust the natural water tension to hold us. There is a natural genius to meditation. It's a great problem solving method. Almost as if the solution is being kept from floating up by our own erroneous thoughts.
