    BEING just a stone's throw away from one another, the decision/ debate between living in Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA is one that many people have made (including us!)... And as Vancouver continues to grow, develop & diversify, this is becoming an even tougher and hotly-contested topic... Not to mention one of the most popular recommendations I'm asked to make almost daily!..
    In this short episode of Living in the Pacific Northwest With Hal Byrd, we'll revisit this topic, and I'll share some up-to-the-moment data, facts and personal perspectives for your consideration if a move to or within The PNW is something you or someone you know is thinking about 🤔 💭. Vancouver = Drive to the office and have happy hour at Applebees.
    Portland = Get high behind the coffee shop owned by your failed surgeon, blind-in-one-eye roommate.
    Bend = The famous, expensive therapists you'll need after it all. Now that it's getting crowded, we're setting our sights on Minnesota. Who the hell wants to move to Minnesota? Nobody. That's the trick!

    Vantucky said "NO!" to light rail.
    A "yes" would have been the better choice.
    Otherwise, it's just Salem north.

    I just left after 25 years. It was a great beautiful city... It went from LIGHT to darkness in 10 years. Meth capital of the nation and Seattle is fighting for that right and D.C. Chicago, Miami... Then theirs Heroin. Big comeback in Portland. Go ahead and move there. We all got to learn our lessons. Good luck!

      Mostly the crime, drug addicts, change in attitude with people. The drug use is epidemic in Portland.

    We Are currently renting in the South Waterfront Portland..How is the building on the Vancouver Waterfront coming? Will there be high rise buildings under 1 mill for sale? Thank you.

      @halbyrd_  Před rokem

      Hi! I doubt there will be high rises like the ones in Portland because of the building restrictions in Vancouver. There's a 14-story apartment going in at Vancouver Waterfront and there is Kirkland Tower. Currently, a 1 bed/1bath unit is listed for $929k. Call me if you want to discuss and dive into what's brewing there (360) 818-4438

      If you mean for Fall/Winter, I would say between Sept-Oct. We've had very warm Septembers and also cold & rainy. So it depends on the year, but by October there are definitely fall vibes with the weather & trees changing color

    Hello! We are visiting the Vancouver area in October and have been looking at relocating in the future. I was wondering if you have any recommendations on places to see or anywhere to go to get a sense of the area? We are really excited to be there and want to make sure we get an idea of what it might be like to live there. Thank you! :)

    I've lived in Vancouver since the 80's. Vancouver has always been a ' bedroom " community. Almost all of Vancouver commutes over to Portland to work. There are no big employers in Vancouver because the state of WA does not give business a tax break. Oregon has a high taxes because they have no sales tax. Intel and Nike are based in Oregon and other large corporations. And the mindset is VERY DIFFERENT. Vancouver has always been a farming community and very WHITE. There is no cultural diversity, whereas there are more different cultures in Portland. It's always been known that people play in Portland but sleep in Vancouver.

      I was wondering about the work situation. Seems to me it makes more sense to work in Vancouver and shop in Portland, because of taxes. Anyway, I hope to retire in Vancouver, so I don't have to worry about that.

      @@ciarakia Portland is very white also … it’s possibly the whitest major city in the US lol. Portland is about 75-76% white, Vancouver is 78% white. Vancouver has 3% black ppl, and Portland has about 5%.
      It’s quite different from where I came from Houston, which was less then 50% white and was almost 25% black. But it’s a beautiful city.
