Hashimotos Flare Up Symptoms | How to Know if You're Having a Flare

  • Are you wondering if you're experiencing Hashimotos flare up symptoms? This crushing autoimmune disease can have a huge impact on the quality of your life and sometimes it stays in control, and sometimes the symptoms can rear their ugly heads.
    In this video I explain the symptoms of this common autoimmune disease of the thyroid. If you've already been diagnosed with Hashi's or hypothyroidism, you're probably familiar with some of the symptoms, but I detail many of the symptoms common with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, because sometimes new ones crop up and they can be SO confusing! Plus I go over how to know if you're experiencing a flare rather than something else (like a cold or virus), the testing you should get, and why medication alone (like Levothyroxine, Synthroid, Armour, Cytomel, etc) doesn't stop a flare and won't help you get over one.
    Also, if you've been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism and aren't feeling your best, this may be an important video to watch, as those are often autoimmune in nature and have roots in Hashimoto's.
    Hashimoto's (sometimes spelled Hoshimotos) is a very confusing, ill-defined disease and it can get PRETTY lonely - and scary- when you're experiencing a ton of strange symptoms that don't seem to fit together. But if you're suffering from these symptoms that I talk about in this video, know you are NOT alone, and in the next video I'll share what you can do to help find relief.

    I’m sobbing watching this. I’ve had so many of these symptoms for years, YEARS, like going on a decade. I’ve heard (from doctors) that I’m making up my symptoms, that I have severe mental health issues, that my symptoms are in my head, that I’m looking for attention. I’ve been treating symptoms for years but finally was diagnosed today. Thank you so much for posting this. It’s validating and comforting to know that I’m not the only one experiencing this.

    I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis about a year ago. I was prescribed Levothyroxine, which I have been taking religiously each morning. That being said, I experienced no benefit from this medication UNTIL I discovered a few things, namely-- the medication works 100 times better when accompanied by zinc. Since I made this discovery, I have noticed my symptoms improving dramatically. Another thing I take for symptoms like inflammation, brain fog, and depression is ground turmeric powder-- two tablespoons a day with water. It is AMAZING what the turmeric does for swelling and inflammation! Lastly, I have been taken Vitamin D3 tablets, which helps my immune system. These things have made my Hashimoto Thyroiditis symptoms so much better! I hope you try this yourself and see if you too have greatly improved health.

      I’ve added Maca root to my medication of Thyroxine because the Levothyroxine wasn’t doing anything and then I became allergic to it. The Maca root is a natural booster for thyroid function. I was diagnosed with Hoshimotos 10 yrs ago. I just like the video said, low-grade fever, always exhausted, & no appetite. I was eating less than 500 calories a day. Then I started to gain weight fast & was eating nothing. I gained 10lbs every month for 5 months! In month 6 I stopped weighing myself. I felt like my body was exploding. I started to work with a great Endo. She gave a very strict anti-inflammatory diet of meat & leafy greens & some meds. I couldn’t have anything that metabolizes into sugar. It’s a long list. It took abt 2 years to get to my normal. She was very compassionate and told there was nothing I could have done on my own. In other words, it wasn’t my fault. The diet really helped. I’m not saying that everyone should do what I did. Check with your Dr.

    I just had a appointment with a specialist yesterday and she said some of my symptoms aren’t hashimotos related but I’ve done my research and after watching this video I definitely know it is. I was diagnose with hashimotos 4 years ago and no medical doctors would help. They just wanted to pump me full of anxiety medication. They basically thought all my symptoms weren’t adding up. I went through 4 doctors before finding one that actually tested me for hashimotos because she had it. It’s so upsetting when they don’t care. Just want to put this out here with people that are struggling with doctors thinking your crazy or they are not really listening to you do your own research! I now go to a holistic doctor and have started AIP diet because I bought many books and read online about the benefits! Best of luck my friends and God Bless you! I got put on levithyroxine for two months and lost 20 pounds when I didn’t need to lose weight so they took me back off of it because it threw me into hyperthyroidism. I had energy but it was wayy to much and my anxiety was through the roof even more so than normal! Even though my numbers seemed fine all my symptoms were pointed to hyperthyroidism and too much medication. We tried cutting my dose down and it still didn’t help. So watch taking levithyroxine. Everyone is different though! I stopped taking my supplements because I felt like they weren’t helping but I am on the search for new supplements and now am going to see a neurologist because I have been having other issues. One doctor said I need my thyroid taken out one of the neurologist I seen but my thyroid doctor said absolutely not so I am at a stand still right now and doing further testing hopefully 🤞 I am thinking I either have another autoimmune disease or hashimotos is causing neurological symptoms. It’s been a roller coaster to say the least. But there’s still hope and I’m just praying I find the answers I need! Best of luck! ❤

      There is a different thyroid supplement called Liothyronine (synthetic T3)which can be added to the principal one, and it did the trick for me, the Synthroid and all the others are T4, I take it but my Enocrinologist gave me that extra T3 one, because mine was low, and I take it twice a day, once with the daily dose of normal levothyroxine and then by itself in the afternoon!!!!! Oh Happy Day!!!!!!! the T4 is a stronger form of Thyroid supplements and might be associated with higher risk of excess thyroid replacement such as palpitations, arrythmias and osteoporosis. It is why he limits the normal T4 everyone gets but then reinforce it with the T3. The divine blend in my case!!!!

    I am SO happy I stumped over your channel ❤️ I subscribed at once I heard you talk about Hashimotos‼️ I was diagnostic with it for many, many years ago (don’t even remember the exact year, but I have has it for over 20 year (or close 35-36!) Here in Norway the specialist back in the time told me it was not ANY symptoms related to Hashimotos when I told him how I felt. During the coming years I became worse and worse, but didn’t get any help! I felt lost and confused because of the way I felt and the doctors not seemed to understand or even believe me! I had to remove half of my thyroid gland in 2018 and still the doctors not take anything seriously! They don’t even follow up as they should and my other half of my thyroid gland now starts to give me problems x. It has nodes and they are growing and has pushed/moved my trachea 2 cm. But still they do not do anything. What am I suppose to do? I try everything to stay “healthy” as I have a lot of other health challenges too and also have had a huge cancer operation for soon 2 years ago. I live on anti inflammatory “diets”. Do intermittent fasting 7 days a week for 16 -22 hours. I have eliminated a lot from the foods I use to consume before and only eat 1 or 2 times a day! (Depending on how long I make my fating time!) I hope to learn more and get some good advice after subscribing to your channel. It’s not easy to handle everything all by yourself with doctors that doesn’t take you or your health challenges seriously! And mind you… I am a health care worker by education and profession myself‼️

    I have been experiencing many of these symptoms for a few years now, getting progressively worse over time which triggered me to start researching if I might have an underlying condition, rather than just getting old. It was only a few days ago that I stumbled across hyperthyroidism and after several days of relentless internet research this video describes the symptoms I am experiencing so much more accurately than anything else I have seen or read. I will now be shocked if tests don't indicate that I have thyroid problem of some sort. I had been thinking I may be developing diabetes, however the sugar craving / crash symptoms described in this video make me think I probably have Hashimotos.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  Před rokem +4

      Yeah, sugar cravings and crashes definitely are part of Hashi's - and one of the things that makes it so hard to figure out. I'd still make sure you get tested for diabetes just to rule that out as well, but regulating your blood sugar really will be something you'll need to do either way if you want to feel your best.

      Man, I hope you can start feeling better soon! You definitely aren't alone in that though - so many people have told me it's a symptom as well. We think it's inflammation of some nerve in the face - similar to how your teeth can hurt with a sinus infection. So really concentrate on getting that overall bodily inflammation down and it hopefully will go away. 💕

    I have been diagnosed with fibromialga in addition to Hashimotos disease. I also have arthristis. I started gaining weight for no reason in my early 40's but the doctor said it was my age. 20 years later I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. I was an active mother of 7, and worked full time. I still work full time, but I am in paid every day. Ibuprofen is out - it effects my liver. Nothing helps, so I just keep going, and try to keep busy, to take my mind off the pain. Your channel is the first to describe me. Wow. Thank you. Yes heart palpitations. I can’t lose weight and I was a skinny string bean until my forties and was placed on anti depression anti panic cocktail. Then came my attached twin. You rule.
    Another pet peeve of mine is the scale of normalcy. When you hit the sweet spot numbers after labs, the doc states that your thyroid is fine. When was this scale developed? We are all different, but it’s treated like a cookie cutter solution. Again you rule.

    I was diagnosed in 2004, hypo & hyper so no treatment for 11 yrs until I became more consistently hypo. My teeth hurt at times, thought it was my fibromyalgia, tmj, heart palpitations, thinning hair omg, I think I'll be bald one day. Anxiety out of nowhere! Video is spot on. I take lots of supplements to support my body, on a gluten free diet, no canola oil only olive oil, check out diet for hashimotos you'll be surprised the foods you SHOULDN'T have. Meditate, yoga/ stretches. I take Armour instead of synthroid, works well for me, more natural than synthetic. Recommend ultrasound of thyroid every couple years especially if you've been struggling with Hashimotos for a long time. ITS A STRUGGLE BUT KEEP MOVING FORWARD, your body will thank you. Oh, finding a Dr who listens to you is key. I was blessed to find my Dr, not an endocrinologist but knowledgeable about hashimotos, listens, tests me ( all thyroid panel & antibody tests). Don't be discouraged, its not in your head. I researched, read and read. Asked alot of questions of my Dr. Still trying to eat a clean diet, eliminated many foods, take supplements to strengthen my body because when I don't feel well/ exhausted I don't eat. There's answers out there like this video which is so informative and educational. Omega 3, L-theamine , B12, B complex helps with my stress/ mood. Surround yourself with people who want to understand, who will read the information about hashimotos to understand what your dealing with. BE KIND TO YOURSELF, YOU'RE OK!

    I was diagnosed with hashimotos over a year ago. My symptoms were under control for the most part until a few months back when I got the flu. Since, I've had a flare up I can't shake. I've been given antidepressants and my thyroid medication had been adjusted but I can't shake my fatigue and my tremors. It's frustrating that it feels like my body and mind are against me.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Hk78666 Yeah, it can be a symptom that your thyroid is off but also your adrenals are taxed. It's all interconnected - so that advice that I gave you in the other comment should also work for sleep. But in addition - you may need to look at stress management as well - it might be good to take a look at your daily life and notice if you have any ongoing stress (can be little, doesn't have to be a huge thing). Is there anything that you can get rid of or lessen? Not that just the one thing will automatically give you sleep, but it's good to start being aware of these things as they all add up and the constant taxing of your adrenals in addition to your thyroid being attacked can really make everything worse.

    Thank you for this! I never really figured out my Hashimoto's symptoms or flares cause my Addison's symtoms are similar and sooo much stronger so it was kind of hidden all the time and I don't really know which disease causes each symtom. Guess that's common to people who have multiple autoimmune issues.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  Před 4 lety +3

      yeah, that has to be really tough to decipher between them. But as you said, multiple autoimmune issues can get so jumbled up in each other. The good news is that they can also often be helped by the same interventions (diet, lifestyle, eradication of gut infections, etc) so it's like killing two birds with one stone (I actually hate that analogy, it's so violent! Does feeding two birds with one seed make sense?)

    My daughter , like me and her dad, have hypothyroidism. She was also told about having Hashimoto several years ago. She saw this video last week and told me to watch it. You said every single thing I have. Some of these things I have been given meds or treatments for years. And everything is just getting worse. Nothing has improved. And now I’m so balding that you can see my head clearly through what little hair I have left. If I’m in the sunlight or by a bright light, my hair looks nonexistent. I’m just starting to see a new doctor. I have a phone appointment with him in less than a week. This is going to be the first topic I bring up to him. Thank you for this video.

    I seem to have almost all of these symptoms all the time. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in my early 20’s but they confirmed I have Hoshimoto’s in 2020 with very high antibodies. The frustration I have is that almost all doctors think that if your thyroid panels come back in the “normal” range that your thyroid is managed. Mine definitely isn’t. I’m glad you addressed this in this video. My hope is that they eventually do more research to help all of us with the many symptoms we experience.
