    I'm the original owner of my 07 hatchback and I just did this for the first time. I had a hard time getting both filters out and realized right away Mazda put both filters in wrong as they've never been changed. This video clearly shows the proper way to install them.
    Great video and I give this guy a lot of credit for the filming angles he was able to achieve. It's tight in there !

    took me close to 2 hours to replace this thanks to your video. very helpful and concise, definitely would not have been able to do this without your great editing, angles, lighting and explanations. My 3 has 170k miles and with how dark the previous filter was, I really doubt it was ever changed (I don't blame the first owner for that either lol).
    ill be honest though, I'm never doing that again. I'm all for DIY but this project was very very close to not being worth it for me. I feel awful for the people who work in shops and have to do these more than once... The space is so awkward to get to and disconnecting/reconnecting everything was very difficult with the lack of room, poor visibility, and awkward positioning that it requires. Hardest part by far was getting the new filter in, one hand would keep getting in the way of the other. I almost made a little rig to hold up the top filter so i could slide the bottom one in because of that.. smaller hands would help in this situation

      @BinhDong  Před 5 lety

      Jeffrey Barker the glovebox does come out. Not as easy as other cars though. But it doesn’t help taking out the glovebox for this install imho. You would have to take out the trim piece that goes to the radio and there are like two or three screws under that trim piece plus you have to take out/pull back the weather stripping from the door.

    Got mine done today. Really helps to say Owww Yeeah at the completion of each step. I recommend doing this at the same interval I've done mine on my 2008 speed 3. You'll want to do this once every 12 years or 94k miles. For speed owners there is a black airflow sensor attached that you can see clearly the cutout for at the 6m mark . There are two more cables to disconnect here but you don't have to unscrew the screws holding the black piece in. This is for the automatic climate control systems.

    The video was excellent and helpful! I would have probably given up without your funny and thorough (but not ridiculously long) explanation and walk through. Like a few others, I got stuck at removing the bolts from the fuse bracket, but I borrowed a better socket wrench from neighbor and was back on track. Lining up the filters and getting them in place was also a bit trickier than I expected. All in in all, it probably took me two hours, but now I could it in 45 minutes for sure. I spent a good bit of time trying to contort myself to get a good angle working from the wheel well. I love my 2008 Mazda 3, but I'm not sure I won't go back to spending $100 to get this done at a shop. I'm thankful that I had your tips to get me through it, but it was frustrating nonetheless. Not your fault! Thanks Mazda. :-P

    just want to say thanks for the great guide! it was still a pita to change knowing what to expect though. i recommend anyone doing this to remove the glove box as well. i left the cables intact with the fusebox holder which meant less angles for me to see. had i removed the glove box, i would have been able to see the fitment of the filters better and be able to vacuum all the crap in there. i did this on a RHD, so the process was almost the same on the passenger side. differences are no filter sensor to disconnect, the filter cover is black and the 4 screws holding it are easier to access. also you remove the top filter first and then the bottom one. i ended up with a CEL. i just disconnected the negative terminal on the battery afterwards for 15 mins to reset it.

    A machanic told me he changed the cabin air filter but I really doubt if he did😂 Cuz I can't verify it myself lol... I really appreciate your time and efforts for capturing the entire process, once I got in there for connecting a dashcam, its a very tight spot no proper lighting. Thanks a lot mate!

    Thanks for this video! I think the reason why many other youtubers take out the glovebox is to create more working space. Instead of working in such a tight space. I'll be needing to do this too on my mazda 3 2005 sedan soon.

    I've done my oil and filters change a month ago and I've told my mechanic not to bother with the cabin filter cause I'll do it my self(and save some money). I came back to this video to finally encourage myself to do it haha. (I'm a big Boi too).

    It worked great today, slowly followed video one step at a time. Fast reassembly. Only problem was my 6'4" 250 lb body had issues with getting in there. Thanks - Thanks - Thanks.

    Hello again!! This is Second time I've used your video to do this DIY repair. Very detailed, I love it. However as a bigger guy it's MUCH easier to remove the glovebox first

    Best video on the net about this. Unfortunately now I'm completely turned off of Mazda's because of this horrible design. What a nightmare. My bolts would not come off at all even after a soak in penetration oil

      @@BinhDong thank you buddy. The luck came in handy. I managed to borrow a decent impact wrench and after a lot of effort they came free! No weird solutions here. Just straight force. Anyway the job is done finally! What a pain. *Shaking fist at the Mazda staff responsible*

      I ended up removing the glove compartment to reach the nuts from the top. When I put it back together, I hand tightened the nuts. Aside from that, thanks to this video, everything else was smooth.
