  • Breaking News: Football Legend Kevin Campbell Dies at 54
Kevin Campbell, the beloved former Everton and Arsenal striker, has passed away at the age of 54 after battling illness. Earlier this month, Everton had announced that Campbell was seriously ill. Sadly, on Saturday, he died in the hospital.
Campbell's health issues began with a stroke a few months ago, leading to kidney failure. Despite his severe condition, which saw his weight drop to just nine stone, Campbell remained positive and reassured his former Arsenal teammates that he was doing okay. His death has left them and the wider football community devastated.
Campbell made a significant impact at Everton, playing from 1999 to 2005 and scoring 50 goals in 160 appearances. His early performances, especially under manager Walter Smith, were crucial in helping Everton avoid relegation.
Before his time at Everton, Campbell enjoyed success with Arsenal, winning the FA Cup, League Cup, and European Cup Winners' Cup, and making over 200 appearances. He was part of the Arsenal squad that won the First Division title and spent seven years at the club before moving to Nottingham Forest in 1995.
Throughout his career, Campbell played for several clubs, including Nottingham Forest, West Brom, Cardiff City, Leyton Orient, Leicester City, and a brief stint in Turkey with Trabzonspor. In total, he scored 107 goals in 394 top-flight appearances.
Campbell's son, Tyrese, is also a professional footballer, most recently playing for Stoke City until the end of the 2023-24 season.
Kevin Campbell began his career at Arsenal, debuting in 1988 after coming through their youth ranks. He had loan spells at Leyton Orient and Leicester City before contributing to Arsenal's 1990-91 league title win and their FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993.
After leaving Arsenal, Campbell played for Nottingham Forest and Trabzonspor before joining Everton on loan in 1999, where his goals helped the club avoid relegation. He then signed permanently with Everton, staying for over five seasons. Campbell concluded his playing career with West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City, amassing a total of 148 goals in 542 appearances and later working as a media pundit.
The football world mourns the loss of a true legend who left an indelible mark on the sport.
