Great 👍... question, I have severe allergies when I come to smell like scented oils, air fresheners, oil plugins, etc. The area where most guests reside is the living room. Will a large room air purifier help make the air smell natural and not have to depend on any of the above scented alternatives? Of course, I still use natural homemade sprays with lemon and other natural ingredients to spray on carpet and sofas. 🙂

They might remove mild, musty odors, but they're quite useless against harsher ones. I have neighbors (apartment) who burn garlic and onions in oil every day. Trust me... air purifiers do not work.

Yes, carbon is the component that helps with the odors but just because a unit has a carbon filter does not mean it is good at removing odors. Some people will require an air purification solution with a substantial amount of carbon for their particular environment. It depends on some variables. 👍
My honeywell HEPA indicates it has an activated carbon PREfilter, don't know if the PRE makes a difference...in any case, after one night with it, the advertising of it being able to eliminate odors on the box has been determined to be a lie after leaving it on all night...
The prefilter just means that it acts as a prefilter for capturing large particles, dirt, and hair, and being an odor neutralizer. Some air purifiers these as two separate filters. Which model do you have? Also, room size versus the power of the air purifier can be a factor in why odors are not being removed. Is the unit too small? And, where are the odors coming from? That can be a factor as well.

You need a lot of carbon in your air purification solution if you wish to purify strong odors or odors that occur on a consistent basis. If the filter is a flimsy piece of carbon that weighs less than a pound - it will typically not do a good job on odors - at least, not for long.

They do not remove nothing. Even if you have the best one, they remove zero odors.
I disagree. I’ve a Philips air purifier for two and a half years and it’s greatly helped me with all scents
