In this video I react to Celtic football fans singing the song Grace at Celtic Park. This is such a beautiful song and hearing 60,000 Celtic fc fans singing Grace was such a powerful moment of unity. It gave me chills. Grace is an Irish song about the marriage of Grace Gifford and Joseph Plunkett just hours before his execution at Kilmainham Jail in 1916. This really make me want to go back and read the lyrics again.

Celtic pronounced Seltic in this case. A football game is sometimes more than just football. It is a tradition.
I'm sure Americans are familiar thanks to Boston.

@@Mark-Haddow Oh dear!
Mate, anyone from Scotland will tell you that when talking about the football club it’s spelt Celtic, but pronounced Seltic.
And if Americans were familiar with that pronunciation Steve wouldn’t have got it wrong in the video, would he?!
No judgment on him, he didn’t know, not sure why you’re having a tantrum about it though. 🙄
Aw that's nice. You'd love a visit to Glasgow and the Irish bars before and after the game. Celtic FC the Irish diaspora in Scotland. 🏴🇮🇪
Do not make a mistake and in curiosity go to a rangers bar by mistake might not come back out from a 70 year old guy that’s been and seen .
I'm a huge celtic fan, as is all my family. I took my daughter to Kilmainham Gaol, where the song of Grace is set. We saw their cells, the Chapel Grace married Joseph the night before he died, the cell they spent 1hr together after being married and the place in the courtyard where he was murdered. Nothing can compare to how I now feel hearing the song after the visit. Makes the song so much more poignant
Yes, was there too, gave me chills visiting that prison and thinking abut the freedom fighters that had been imprisoned there.
I thought it was 15 minutes in the chapel supervised by guards
they had 15 minutes together under armed supervision after the ceremony

Hibs fans singing Sunshine on Leith. It is absolutely amazing. The 2016 Cup final. It will give you goosebumps.
Class. From Glasgow
Stunning song, sang by great fans, nearly as good as Glesga Celtic 😜
I'm not a football fan, I'm just a boring Englishman. There's something magical, powerful, and invoking about thousands of people singing and/or chanting together. I wanted to join in! I love this kind of thing.
Pick a team and go get involved then mate is a great crack 👍 the more you emotionally invest in to it the more magical it is to you I have moments like this every week lol and it’s amazing, sometimes horrendous but that’s what makes the good times even better

the fields of athenry is the much more impactful song and everyone sings along. The meaning of the song is also stronger, its about the famine and an irish man stealing to feed his family and being sent to australia on a prision ship. Liverpool also sings this song at their games due to the large irish population. The fields of athenry is sung in irish bars all around the world, ive heard it sung in egypt, turkey, spain etc.
Yes its a cultural icon

Can't listen to it as my mum had it played at her funeral. But so powerful ❤

Proud to be Celtic man a only stay 5mins away from training ground at Lennoxtown there was a Celtic Vs rangers game on Sunday there we Celtic win 1-0 🍀🏴
The energy of a celtic game is just unreal. Was really fortunate to get to see one when I was there. If you go to Glasgow definitely try to see one though tickets are very very hard to get. Most of their tickets are literally season tickets passed down from generation to generation.
He would get a ticket for a league game, except Sevco!
Sunshine on Lieth, is wonderful to hear at a football thing.
Yep, it gave ne chills Sunshine on Leith
It's definitely one to watch
I am a celtic supporter but agree , what a tune
I'm a Tim but Sunshine on Leith is easily one of the best footie songs.

I grew up British..2nd generation irish completely. Even then I didnt enjoy this song but then when you learn the lyrics it hits different. And the new irish generation appreciation this stuff now if love. ALSO appreciate you with some understanding (but even then i still doubt all).. the context of this song is you research it.. is incredible. (What they went through alone is mental.. he was killed for just being a protestor to vile oppression.. but it also stands for generations).
I say i feel you are ignorant because if maybe you knew somewhat you wouldve given some context. (its heartbreaking just the very specifics alone)
No not exactly he engaged in armed rebellion .I think you are mistaking him for Francis Sheehy Skeffington who was a pacifist but was executed by an unhinged British officer.Whether or not armed rebellion was justified its hard to know however i don't think you can blame the British for executing the rebels however the manner and lack of due process had a lot to be desired.7 years later the irish free state executed 70 rebels in the civil war.
Really my point is it what was a case of no quarter given and none expected.

There are a couple of other videos with the crowd singing really loudly. The Hibs Fans when they won the Scottish Cup Final 2016 "Sunshine on Leith" & The Green Day crowd at Hyde Park 2017 singing "Bohemian Rhapsody". That was so loud I heard it in Shepherd's Bush nearly 2 miles away (which means Freddie would have definitely heard it if he'd still be with us).

The football team is actually pronounced with a soft c at the start, "Seltic" to my knowledge.
Celtic with a "K" sound at the start is the name of a native people and language of the British Isles, but unless every sports program I've ever seen in the UK is wrong, the football club is pronounced "Seltic", with an 's' rather than a 'k'.
Yeah, that`s true. I read the history of Celtic Football Club many years ago. The club was meant to sound = KELTIC, but the Scots found difficulty is pronouncing it that way so it became =SELTIC.
Love this !
Hope you enjoyed it. Celtic is pronounced Seltic.
Celtic. God bless them. YNWA 🍀⚽️🏴🇮🇪
It's Seltic not Keltic, like Boston Celtics. Celtic is a Scottish football team with a lot of Republic of Ireland fans.
The 2 main teams in Scotland are Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers, basically Celtic are Catholic and Rangers are Protestant. You will rarely find a Rangers fan in the Republic of Ireland.
I'm an Atheist but still feel a connection to Celtic because of where i was born and my upbringing.
I'm the one who recommended Grace originally.
I think these 2 versions are better

It's amazing how Americans haven't got a clue about the divide in this City , will he have the same feeling with Penny Arcade ?
Penny Arcade is a very cool footie song . Problem is a song about playing coin operated gaming machines does not resonate with people the same way that a freedom fighter being murdered by an oppressive Empire does.

Love going over to watch them. Play. So passionate bout the heritage
I had no idea it was pronounced differently than the way Celtic is normally said. I know you said you went over all the time, looks like a fun atmosphere.

Sir Rod Stewart sings this and this is also the football club he supports
So what
@@dgoodall9350 Poor thing.
Almost every football team has songs that are linked to their club that they play in the build up to kick off.
This song had nothing to do with Celtic…
And I’m Irish I no… this song has nothing to do with Scotland
@@alwayslaughing6826a very substantial percentage of Celtic fans consider themselves an integral part of the Irish diaspora. They consider songs like Grace as part of their own identity and history. And none of this should come as a surprise seeing as Celtic was founded by the Irish diaspora and for the Irish diaspora.
So no, no one is kidding on Grace is sung by Celtic fans because the songs has something to do with Scotland, the opposite.

Grace patriotic- a special place in history. We love our history and are very proud to be Irish- no matter where we live
Look at the Hibernian fans sing the sunshine on leith after the 2016 Scottish Cup final.
On the pronunciation issue, I once read (pre-Internet) that the original and correct pronunciation of the word 'Celtic' is with the 'S' sound, as in the football club and, during the 1950s when there was a minor resurgence of Scottish nationalism that a decision was made, amongst Scottish nationalists, to pronounce the word with a hard 'c' in future, so as to distinguish the people and their cause from the football club.
Anyway, Hail, Hail, tiocfaidh ar la and FTQ.
I think you will find that YNWA and Fields are Athenry are sung at most Celtic home games.
