    Very good ideas for a van. I have a very similar set up on my van. FYI those flat woods are going to stick on your back even with the mattress. I fixed it putting some cardboard as in between layer and it works just fine. Let me know if you came up with something else to solve that issue. Thanks and keep up the good work. 💪🏽

    Never mind, i just watched your other video and see you have a standard cargo van. I'm planning to get the high roof ford transit long cargo van, so i think i'll be able to fit my futon in it no prob. But if not, will follow your design. Very cool. And funny videos man.

      @zhkopec  Před 6 lety

      Good stuff. I really like the new ford transits. That was one I considered, but I found this one for a lot less $. The width dimensions of the vans are the same if I recall though.

  • @IExpectedBSJustNotThisMuchBS

    Sofas need an angled back rest for comfort. Have been trying to figure out the best way to do that while being able to use the sofa as a single bed and a double bed when needed without eating up too much room. Have a few ideas, but they don't involve sticking a cushion at a 90 degree angle at my back.

    • @AcidDotCom
      @AcidDotCom Před 2 lety +1

      I'm at the same point at the moment :) Closest I can get (without overcomplicating it) is just copy a rock 'n roll bed but don't like the wasted space behind the back support. Folded looks like _/\_

    • @marcushennings9513
      @marcushennings9513 Před 2 lety

      I've had the exact same setup with a futon mattress that has inner metal coils and it's worked well for years with back support, just pulled it away from the wall some. I use a ratchet strap on the frame at the fold to keep it in place.

    A few questions. 1) Wouldn't you have greater support if the lengthwise 2x4's were edge-up instead of flat? Try standing on a 2x4 either way and it is stronger when you stand on its edge. 2) There seems to be very little support on the legs of the slideout. If you move it side to side, it looks like it would crumble. 3) In the center back I don't see a leg. Is that because you are using the wheel well as support there? 4) Also, I don't see any lateral support at the base. If you are on it and more (length-wise) back and forth, what is there to stop it from crumbling?

    • @zhkopec
      @zhkopec  Před 3 lety

      I had that concern early on but so far it's had many nights on it and I haven't noticed any sinking. A lot of the modern frames are ultra light materials and thinner so they go for more slats. The wood I used ended up being pretty strong

      You can use SketchUp for free online (PC, don't think it works on mobile). app.sketchup.com/
      You can open a file by simply dragging it from any location straight into the open application on a web browser.
      Or, while you have the browser app open, you can go to the three dashes at the top left and down to "Open". Then click on "Add Model" in the top left. This will open up a window where you can then find the location where you downloaded the file. Once you find the file location, select it and click "Open".

    Good job! But WAY too much of a headache and unnecessary for a van bed. Just my opinion.✌🏼

      Half of the fun of the project is just learning to do things. I could have just made a normal twin size frame, but I wanted to be able to sleep 2 people later on. ;)

      zhkopec - I see your point. I guess I should point out that when I was your age I used to get involved in many in-depth projects and it was fun to do and learn. Now that I am retired, I don't have the zest and patience I did when I was younger...lol! You did a great job on the bed frame and it should serve you well! 👍🏼

      I'm not sure if it's just the program but I'm not able to open the actual document. When I try it just gives a bunch of nonsense characters. I see others asking if you have a pdf, or just straight up measurements (what size wood and how many pieces of each) so I'm just wondering. I would love to make this bed.

    • @zhkopec
      @zhkopec  Před 6 lety

      Rated Rosa Its a "SketchUp" program file. They have a free reader on their website if I recall correctly. It's a 3d diagram that you can see at the start of the video. I'm working on a off version of it which will be out soon. It's not ideal, but you could get the entirety by pausing the vid at each section. Until the pdf is done. (Soon I hope)

    Good tutorial... Except that bloody annoying 'musak'. Not cool mate.
    Also, your *Sketch Up* download is no use, without the program. A link to that might have been helpful.
    I'll give you a thumbs up though for effort.

      I looked for my original plans, but then realized at 1:45 in the video you can see some of it. If I recall It was 10 1x2 boards and 3 2x4 boards.
