    Hi, I was following your tutorial however, when creating a compute instance I find that Oracle has added a monthly cost for boot volume as a standard. Is there anything I can change to avoid those charges?

    • @TechTute
      @TechTute  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The first 200G of block storage are always free, it seems like their cost estimator is calculating it wrong. I have seen it on my account too, and many others have complained about it. As long as you don't use more than 200G between all your instances you should not get changed (just a reminder inactive block storage counts towards the 200G limit).

      @@fabsklo not really but is should be pretty similar on windows, the only difference would be the way you ssh in to your remote server, once you are in should be all the same. I have a Video on how to use Putty to ssh to remote server, maybe check that one out and once you figure out the ssh then its all the same.
      What exactly are you struggling with?

    • @TechTute
      @TechTute  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Marcos, I believe you are asking if Oracle has access to your data on the free instance. I am assuming if they really want they probably can access it. That said if I were to have some super sensitive data I probably would not store it on the cloud even with paid instance. According to OCI Privacy features " ...The data that you store in OCI, such as files, documents, and databases.
      Your data might include personal information, but Oracle does not have insight into the contents of this data, how you collect or use it, or whether it’s subject to any specific data privacy regulations..."
      Hope this helps.

      @@TechTute Thank you very much for the information. My concern is exactly that, about the access that oracle has to the configuration files of the applications that we publish in the oracle cloud.

      @TechTute  Před rokem

      openssh was added to windows few years back so you should be able to ssh same as linux and mac "ssh -i "path to key" username@remotehost. In case you are using older windows that doesn't have open ssh you can use putty, I would recommend using putty anyway. Here is a video on how to use putty czcams.com/video/hrm1VJihFcc/video.html . As far as "ls" command in windows you can use "dir" . Hope this helps!

      Hello Sandeep, I don't have access to RedHat, but Oracle Linux that is available on OCI always free tier is pretty much the same, as It is compiled from RedHat source code, replacing RedHat branding with Oracle's. The installation should be pretty similar to that of Ubuntu. If you are still interested let me know and I can definitely make a video.

      @@Arewapro its pretty straight forward but it is painfully slow because the free AMD instance cant handle the desktop env. Anyway make sure to start an AMD instance with Ubuntu this wont work with ARM. Once your instance is up and running install Desktop environment I think lxqt works best but with such limited resources its still very slow. If you don't know how to how to set up desktop environment check out this video: czcams.com/video/onjz8AYMqwo/video.html once you have desktop environment installed remote desktop in to it as root open terminal and first thing you wanna do is get key for the winehq repos so run these two commands:
      "sudo mkdir -pm755 /etc/apt/keyrings"
      "sudo wget -O /etc/apt/keyrings/winehq-archive.key dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key"
      Then run "apt update" and then you can follow the instructions for ubuntu on www.mql5.com/en/articles/625?.metatrader4.com&.mt5.linux I is litteraly one extra line that you need to run. It will take a while but MT4 will start eventually. Again it is very slow with the free instance.

      Hi Nick, this happens sometimes with these free resources, you can try switching to different availability domain, or different shape in the same domain. If it doesn’t work immediately give it some time until resource becomes available. My experience is usually an hour or so.

      Hi Nick, your home region is assigned during account creation and can not be changed, you can subscribe for another region and build resource there but to do that you need to upgrade to the paid OCI account. If you want to have as home region a region other than what you already have, you will have to create new OCI account and make sure to select the region you want as home region. Hope that makes sense.

    Too bad oracle cloud asks for visa card information on their 'free' tier. Red flag.

    • @TechTute
      @TechTute  Před rokem +3

      It is pretty much the industry standard. Most if not all cloud service provider require credit card to open an account, even if it is trial. One thing I actually like about the way Oracle does it is, once your trial expires they cut access to all the paid services and you can only youse their "always free tier" So unless you go and consciously upgrade to use the paid services you are not allowed to use them, and you will not get charged. Unlike the others such as AWS, Azure etc., where you can unintentionally start a paid service (one that it isn't part of their free tier or trial period) and they will happily let you do it with no warning and present you with the bill at the end of the cycle.
