No one said the UFC wasn't selling tickets. The claim is they were not selling PPVs which is common for main events with underdogs as big as Diaz (+700). Causals do not pay for 2 minute washouts.

Yes, Dana said they sold 250 tickets after the reshuffling of the card. Most events reserve space for production. Once everything gets set up any of that unused production space usually gets released to the public for tickets.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me as maybe I don't understand ticket sales. In this clip Dana says they were sold out of tickets on the day of the weigh ins. But at the UFC 279 press conference (after the fight) he mentioned that once they changed the fights that they sold 250 tickets within a few hours of announcing it. How is that possible if they were sold out?
My guess is that "sold out out"represents a certain threshold of tickets that have been sold has been achieved, like say 97%, not literally every ticket, I believe some events hold back tickets for same day sales or VIP attendees when the event is Sold Out.

After seeing this I would bet shady things happened and not just the UFC telling a doctor to tell KC he couldn't continue. Interest in the main event was low because everyone including Vegas and Nate Diaz himself knew he was going to lose so DW and the UFC did what they had to do to increase sales. Pat was huge to the UFC back 20 years ago... all the great fighters and champions he helped make that all at one point or another were in the UFC after Pat had already been a UFC champion. He was an analyst long before fighters were doing that and commentated shows in multiple promotions. That surprised rant.... in shock alone tells you how highly that Dana thinks of Pat.

Dana isn't nearly as pissed at Khamzat for missing weight as he generally is. He is damn near defending him. I find that really weird. Everything about this event was weird. I don't know if its a full on conspiracy but Dana is uncharacteristically ok about a fighter missing weight, a brawl/cancellation of a press conference, and a complete reworking of the main 3 fights. When things go off the rails/unplanned Dana is much more stressed. Talking about it being a shit show and just glad to be through it. also I have noticed when people are on the right track he gets angry and calls them stupid idiots. he goes after there intelligence. We just sold an additional due 150 tickets despite all of this craziness, so how could it have been sold out before the way in but then they still were able to sell tickets after the card got switched.

the problem here is that missing weight does not carry any real consequences. if you are up and coming like khamzat, winning fights is the most important thing for future success and earnings and the continued ride on the UFC hype machine. khamzat comes in overweight and by doing so, increases his chances of winning, reduces the risk of losing all that future success, and whats the price to pay? a few % cut off his purse?
much better to take a paycut now when he's getting paid relatively little, guarantee his rise up to chamion/superstar status, and then make the big bucks. if people don't see that there is a moral hazard here, that the incentive structure is completely in the opposite direction of following the rules, they are missing something.

The amount of defensiveness makes me think there is some truth behind it.
I still believe they arranged the Diaz Ferguson fight before weigh -in, cause it was such an insane missmatch. Diaz is notorious for making a deal with, and you have the commission that goes by the book. Now when Diaz is released, you wont have the same problem, unless you got a coked-up Mac.
The reason so many people think it was staged is because the replacement card was wayyy closer to the card the UFC should have made to begin with...
In retrospect, can you imagine how bad that main event would have been? Nate won, but he didn't look great, while Khamzat ragdolled a guy bigger than he is.

Except who knows how negotiations would've went. Was anyone really expecting Tony to be fighting 170 before a few months ago? Sure Tony had said he was open to it, but it wasnt something he was consistently talking about and him and Diaz were never calling each other out aggressively. On top of that, I think Khimzat V Nate woulda been WAY more interesting......this Tony/Nate fight was BS, they were playing around
