Most people date things based on BBY (before the battle of Yavin). I'd like to know how 'they' dated things in SW, though. Like this takes placed 5000BBY. Well, back then....they obviously had no clue what the Battle of Yavin is. So, how did they decided what the date was for them? The BBY thing just makes so little sense for Star Wars, if you think about it.

I totally understand you and the BBY is more for the understanding of the reader himself, but speaking within the lore of Star Wars, there are different ways in which each individual measures time. For example, in the "Dawn of the Jedi" videos on the channel, the Dai Bendu Monks measured time from "Tho Yor Arrival" where year 0 TYA is equivalent to 36,453 BBY.
