Dude I wish tech schools focused on money management, and budgeting. Ive told this story so many times. When I got my first job I was making $15 an hour, 40hr guarantee. We budgeted life so that we could always pay everything if I was making $15@40. Even today if things went sideways We would be really close.
As we saw with COVID and any other crazy, the auto industry is volatile for techs. You can have 75hr this week and 35 the next. Ive seen so many guys make a lot of money, and still be broke.
BE SMART, live below your means.. Stress over money ruins relationships, and your health... Plenty of other stuff to worry about. You can do a lot to control stress over money.

Even then, earning piss poor money, a box costs what idk 1500 for a decent sized one. Well that's fine and all, but if that equals roughly a whole months pay....while you are doing ALL sorts of work, working your ass off, it's hard to do. I guess my job just said yeah lets get you doing all work that eveyrone else is doing a couple weeks in. Which is fine and all...but i don't have the tools for every single job i need to do. Let alone the room to store them. Constant struggles and getting paid shitty doesnt help. Can't work on cars being broke with no room to store the tools you can't buy. Crappy tools even.

Good example I had to buy a clothes washing machine $1000 I didn’t have all good paid it off $30 a week what ever it was I don’t remember. About a month after paying it off I got a call we can give you $20,000 today just sign here. I told them to f**k off but you know that has to be tempting to someone don’t be that someone

Ok guys, i get what you're saying, but what if you're just starting out. In 69 I bought a $49.95 craftsman carry box tool set on SEARS instant credit account. 1/4,3/8,1/2 SAE std sockets 3/8,1/2 ratchets, a few open wrenches, and a screw driver or two. As needed I added tools, paying cash. Box got full and real heavy real fast. Stored it and my overflow in my car trunk. Gets old lugging in that box then going to car to get tools as needed that didn't fit in the box. Security, WASTED TIME, making life easier on yourself sometimes dictates the need for a box whether you can afford it or not. To me, a toolbox is like a car or house. Starting out you don't need a BMW or a 5 bedroom house, but you need something. My real point is, MAKING PAYMENTS IS NOT BAD IF YOU BUDGET FOR THEM. By the way my first tool box was the trunk of my 68 Camaro r/s that I bought new and paid cash for. That's why I had to buy my tools on a Sears credit account !!!!! Invest, invest, invest. 5%, 10%, 15% whatever you can possibly manage to have left after you cut out the comforts of life. Take it from someone who started over too many times. Do not live on a net zero mentality. If you made $500 this week, maybe 300 of it is actually yours to live that week. Bringing food vs buying food at the deli cost more time but your money can be making money while you're working. Buy your tools but keep it conservative. I personally have $20k worth of tools in a $500 box vs a $10k box with 16 wrenches and 1 ratchet. Be smart with money. Expensive box keeps you from having better stuff inside.

I can't earn 13 dolalrs (Canadian) an hour which ends up being like 420 bucks a week...it's basically mcdonalds pay. Earning that kind of money you can't live off of, not anytime soon. So yeah, the problem i had, was i wasn't getting enough money. You pile on gas insurance maintenance (not that much, don't say i got someshitbox), tires for the seasons, food on and on. Your number of 1k a week...is nowhere NEAR what people near me can earn. Let alone you're in america. The number i'd need to see your 1k is about 1300 or something. at 420 ish dollars, i'm at a third of what you have as a budget. So me living paycheck to paycheck on a third of what you set as a what you earn, seems pretty damn good to me. My issue is just with nobody here paying shit for their workers. I understand the concept and the premise of your video, tons of techs out here smoking drinking (and energy drinks too) 4 5 coffees a day, getting lunch out every single day. I'm the polar opposite. I still was living paycheck to paycheck till my boss ''let me go'' because of ''covid'' a long while back. We had 0 covid beleive it or not. Anywho, applied to many places, not looking like a junkie, talking like a human, nice resume, nothing. If people want to ruin their life, getting into debt by being dumb and buying multiple thousands of dollars worth of energy drinks per year, coffee cigarettes and drinking on the weekend, let them. I know a guy hes like 43 and all he has to his name is a shitty 9 10 year old shitbox economy car which is worn to hell. That's it. No house no tools he owns nothing. Yes, life isn't all about possesions...but having nothing after 20 plus years in the work force shows you are just in life to piss it all away.

As a young stock investor life style inflation is *real* and I highly recommend people learn to invest
You may perceive things a different way and it’s just great if you know what you are doing.
Instead of retiring at 60, you may retire at 40, lots of doors open up etc
I’m a stock youtuber also and I’m just warning people to be wary, some content creators jump on the next hype for example because it pulls the most views (makes them the most money) assuming you want to pick individual stocks yourself

That's a good way to do it, but also please just keep in mind, just because it's 20 a week, doesn't mean it's cheap or worth it. that 800 dollars Ratchet kit, can be divided up in what 40 50 weeks potentially, that'd be your payments for almost a year. I understand the need for tools, i just mostly like to buy in cash, or be able to pay off good chunks of it. Atleast you are mindful of the money. But yeah,20 isnt that bad.

That's what i'm thinking. I was earning 13/h CANADIAN. Not just some bitch lube tire tech. From the bitch work oil tires to suspension brakes diag, transmission R&R, installing some wheel spacers (worked at a ''performance'' shop) some liftkit deals. I earned piss money, and from a conversation i had with the other techs, all 3 of us, the guy thats been there like 3 yrs, who did engine pulls, body work, to a degree, and all work, was only earning 15 maybe 16. He did all the shitty jobs, and didn't complain. and another 2 3 bucks. You can weld all day long, and earn far more than that. Unless you own something, you're right, you won't see that money. Problem is, you can't own a shop here, and do the work, unless you go through the 4 yrs, and the certification, ect. So you're stuck working for shitty asshole bosses who pay mcdonalds wages for hard ass work. I appreciate people working minimum wage jobs, sure its fine and all, but don't bitch when you earn it for doing the MINIMAL work. I worked my ass off and got like a dollar more, which i think is actually the minimum wage now. I'm not an economy teacher, but taking a course, doing super well, being a hard worker and showing up on time, doing ALL kinds of different complicated work, and earning 1 more dollar per hour, aint gonna pay off.

Put $20 a week into a savings account regardless. Build a minimum balance of 2 months pay for emergencies. Once you get established, change it to a percentage. Every couple years, up it a bit. Have a goal of a year's pay in savings.
