I was a kid when these were out, and I understood the Glaswegian quite well, being from Northern England (Sheffield, South Yorkshire) probably helped.
Funnily enough I live in the Borders now 🤣.
Well done for starting this. It's Iconic! It came out in 1990 if I remember correctly. I watched it from the very first episode until the last. Comedy gold. Rab is a philosopher. Hope you keep going with this man. Thanks!!
This is where US comedy will always differ from British comedy. If you look at this and, say, Steptoe and Son, you won't see anything like it on US TV. Scruffy or dirty people, down and out etc. just not having the best lives.
In the US, everyone's good looking, clean, a winner. No self deprecation.
It's totally different.
They remade Steptoe and son and it was very successful. There's also Rosanne which was about working class normal looking people.
