I know I told in the video that the pedal is 12 years old, sorry. I didn't check it's actual age before I started shooting this. My bad. :) The GT-8 came out in 2008 which makes it 13 years old. Insane...
But does it sound any good now in 2021?! Let's find it out together.
    Enjoy Gear Corner!
    ** Why the "Anzeige" (=Ad) message? **
According to german laws everyone has to mark their videos as advertisements as soon as there's a single "subject relevant" product, tag or link in it. Even if you didn't get paid for making that video. Sounds confusing and it really doesn't help the viewer to see which is a paid review and which isn't. But it's the law so whatever...
--- The line of truth: Is this actually a paid review? No it isn't. (I update this line for every video).

Love it. I use my GT8 too again after a decade. The delays, Chorus, actually most fx are up to par with whatever quality Product is out there nowadays. There is a preamp in the GT8 called "Edge Lead". with low gain it sounds fantastic and is alot of fun. Not bad for 20 year old tech.

I just started messing around with my 19 yo Boss GT-6 and found out that it can actually produce some nice rock and metal tones. However, I still haven't been able to find a decent clean tone. When I initially bought the GT-6 I found it way too complicated and although I used it for a ton of gigs, all the tones were kind of accidental. Lost all my old tones when the internal battery died.
Now that I am more familiar with using pedals/amps, getting tones is much easier and I'm finding a new love for the GT-6.

  • @josmenhart3437
    @josmenhart3437 Před 8 měsíci +1

Just like you I took out my GT-8 about a month ago and was shocked by my old presets. After two minutes I decided to do a factory reset and started playing with the preamp controls, Dual Rectifier to see if I could get out some clean Foo Fighters sounds from the The Colour and the Shape / TINLTL era. This time taking the time and studying the manual. Damn this thing amazes me. It's not state of the art but for some home recording and practicing it is very usable, and I think I wouldn't even be ashamed to use it on a demo recording.
I found your video very inspirational, and I will put a lot more time into experimenting with other sounds. Thanks for sharing!

Ciao Kris, I've been called in lately to play a couple of shows where you need to play completely with in-ear monitors, and no cabinet on stage, so I dusted off an old 2002 Boss GT6...basically made your same process of "gain reduction...and new EQ setting " and creating more modern presets...and the tone was fantastic, ok I know very well that a new machine has different performances...( in my home i use Neural DSP plugin...) but without spending a euro I brought home a good result, Always bearing in mind that there could be 2/3 people in the audience who understand the difference between a beautiful tone and a very very beautiful tone...Greetings from Italy Kris.

A few weeks ago I messed around with my X3 live (i never got really warm with it) and man I still hated the menu structure. If someone founded a guitar amp museum I would gladly give it away. This weekend I`ll search my Zoom G2.1u for a shootout with my current amp sims. BTW nice t-shirt, did you do the design?

very nice video. Honestly i find the GT-8 pretty great, i thought the current modelling devices wouldve been miles ahead. This probably does show that a knowledgeable person can make anything sound good ;-)
    I have some questions left:
Do you ever play with a guitar cap at home? or do you always use oxbox/captor x into studio monitors?
How would you power a cap with a modeller? solid state with power amp modelling or tube power amp with a pre amp modell? In your video about tube amps you mention, that pedals need a tube amp. Is the same true for modellers? I am unsure what power amp to use with my Helix)

Im am just starting to learn how to play guitar... I was looking at the boss gt-1 pedal its like $200 bucks or less new.... & like $150 used .... I found this boss gt-8 for $180 used. In ur opinion what would u get .... Does the gt-8 produce more effects ?. I no its like 14yrs old now & the boss gt-1 is newer & probably has more modern design features on it like blue tooth but im interested the best bang for the buck. Will i get a larger range of sounds if i go with the gt-8? The gt-1 is also small u can put it in a guitar gig bag no problem & this is larger but looks very solid & durable

This was a really interesting video to watch, most probably, because I have a somewhat similar situation. I play cover songs with older, 50+ or 60+ guys nowdays, and they don't like loud tube amplifiers at all, even the drum is digital (Roland V-drum). Everthing is connected to the mixer at the rehearsals, the volume level is quite low. I had to do something about the situation, so I quickly got my hands on a Korg AX1500G for 50 Euros, which was my daily driver back from 2005 till 2008. I remember cranking up the gain all the way till 80% or sometimes till 90%, when I tried it now, I was like "what was I thinking back then?'. The Marhsall Sim is good to go with 23% or 27% Gain, even the Lead settings are rarely over 40% :). I'm gonna upgrade to a Kemper Stage once the lockdown ends and we can have gigs again, but it's tons of fun fooling around with the AX1500G at the moment.
Btw I have read somewhere, that these old-school processors tend to work much better with single coils, as they cannot always handle the higher output levels from a humbucker consistently. I can only confirm this, my Telecaster sounds way better than my trusty old Gibson LP when I'm using the Korg. Maybe you should do a test run for the GT-8 with your CS Tele as well ;)
Ps.: My old Rectifier High-gain presets used to be called "RECCS1" und "RECCS2" back in the day. Hungarian codenames ftw! ^^

I have a even older GP8 :P Don't use it anymore though, but I recently connected my ME-25 to a interface using a passive DI-box, wow was that great sounded so much better than direct into the interface and actually usable sounds without a cab. Of course a cab sounds best, but one can't always crank the volume. I have the HX Stomp for my main rig, or old school pedal board, and Helix Native in my other computers but the ME-25 actually became inspiring thanks to the DI-box.
