Fl still has the greatest piano roll. Almost had a migraine trying to figure abeltons piano roll. That's why I use both
Been using FL for *years* making music just using the DAW and when they stopped letting you put waveforms in for the version I have I realized I had to adapt. Got a Focusrite with Ableton for Christmas and been digging more into recording in general and learning that FL studio has the best piano roll overall has been so disappointing.

is there a way to move notes always horizontally without they going up or down accidentally?
I know you can simply select and hold click and move they with the mouse horizontally, but sometimes I just want to move them earlier or put them later and not move the pitch, and I always end up making a mess moving them up or down
How did you activate and select record enable? I can hear audio tracks, but not midi clips. I’m working on an Acer Predator. I appreciate your help!

thanks for the video, I can't seem to hear anything when i place notes. I have my blue headphone button on, the yellow buttons to the right are going off as i play the midi track, but CANT HEAR ANYTHING. Beyond annoying, would rly appreciate help :)

Fast Question, can I change the Octave of drum rack samples using piano roll ? If I can please tell me how.
Is there a way to put more than 1 midi note on top of each other? For example if i have a sustained note, can I place one in the middle of it? It always shortens it when I try it. Great video thanks!

How do you get into the piano roll editor when you want to add a snare I am confused.
How do I link it to a wave table, so when I tinker with an oscillator the notes change too?
It helped a bit, but I'm still trying to figure out a shortcut to scroll back and forth in the piano roll. Once all the notes have played, I'm stuck at the end and have to use a workaround to get back to the beginning without using the loop to get me there.
Double click the stop button will return to the first bar of your track/song. I hope that helps!
Hlw sam, got a problem i couldnt fix for few months now inside my ableton, when i press & hold a note using my midi keyboard it plays as long as i hold it, but when i do the same in the piano roll, i see there's latency while pressing a note/drawing it with mouse & if i press on a note with my mouse, it doesnt keep playing as it should rather it plays once with latency. Idk how to fix this and its really bothering me. Can u pls help?
Cool video! I'm trying to decide between Ableton Live and FL Studio---I don't play any instruments, but I want to use a MIDI keyboard + sequence programming (along with found sound samples recorded with a Tascam digital recorder) to compose, and I'm not sure if Live or FL is best for that. Any thoughts?
I don't have any experience with FL studio, but I know that Ableton's sampling algorithm (time stretching, manipulating) is really great, and I used to use Logic but switched to Ableton because of it.
I want to record notes in arrangement vieuw, then the pianoroll is disappears is there a way?
if you lose the piano roll, click the "Clip/Device Drop Area" in the lower right area of the program (Shown @ 0:45 in the vid) :)
great video and i am watching it to get familiar. I am confused when you say hold down the command key. What key is this? I am trying to select different velocities on a note like you mentioned and then you say hold the command key when you click the note to move the velocity up or down. ? edit: i seen another comment when you mention you are using a MAC. I see then why you say command key. I wonder what the alternative is for a PC

Sam , is it possible in ableton to give all the pitches another color? I've done this in cubase for 20 years and by now can 'read' the colors as notes easily. Looking for another DAW that has this option
oh wow that's cool!...hmm I don't think that is possible in ableton unfortunately. At least I've never seen that as an option. But I could be wrong.

@@errokay I got it to work. Try logging back into the ableton site and make sure all of the packs are downloaded then open each one and they’ll load and be ready to use. Hope that fixes it for you. 😊
I was apparently trying to load sounds that weren't intended to be used with piano roll. When I switched to a different folder of sounds it worked.
