  • To learn more about Seb and Isa's earth bag "ecodome" home, and their off-grid piece of paradise, check out their website here: www.eco-dome.ca/
    They have solar power, propane, and a rocket stove, and they're planting native trees, mushrooms, etc. along a path to create a permaculture food source on their property.
    They also have a tipi and a yurt, in addition to the earthbag structure, where people can come to spend some time in nature, enjoy the trails they've set up, and learn different skills from basket weaving to building a rocket stove.
    Seb and Isa are two very inspiring and hard working people who are a pleasure to be around. It's also very nice to see people putting their beliefs and ideals into action. Their sustainable off grid project is called La Nature à l'état Pur.
    The eco dome is built using plans for a SuperAdobe home, which they learned how to build in California at the CalEarth Institute. You can check out their website here to learn about their courses and programs:
    www.calearth.org/
    CalEarth was founded by architect Nader Khalili:
    "Cal-Earth, the California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture, is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to providing solutions to the human need for shelter through research, development, and education in earth architecture. We envision a world in which every person is empowered to build a safe and sustainable home with their own hands, using the earth under their feet."

    Imagine learning to be self sufficient, not just for building your own home but also farming your yard, growing vegetables and small livestock, just imagine how FREE we would all be, free from corporate domination and control......

      Poor land management has stopped people from being able to use the land for what it should be used for. Modern road systems dissect the land and separate valuable parts that could be used for local markets. It's either globalism or localism and globalism is the most immensely wasteful system the world has ever seen. At the local level all the waste and infrastructure is maintained in sight and can be reduced through management at that level which will reduce it 1000 fold across all the local communities. Globalism is killing the earth.

      I agree! You learn this when you are young and build it when you are young, in shape and healthy, then enjoy it for the rest of your life and/or let the next generation enjoy it too! Doing this when you are older would be very challenging.

    It's a lovely home. There's a wonderful charm and friendliness to structures with curves and domes. They just 'feel' natural and 'normal'. If Seb and Isa run out of things to do, they could do some sampling on their land for gold and other precious metals. You never know!

  • @sonofeloah
    @sonofeloah Před 6 lety +2

    Beautiful! Now, with the concrete flooring, that would still not stop the moisture accumulation. What is needed is a drain field and lower than the house drains away to that field. And even though the place is built, the drainage can still be dug. Digging about 4-5 ft down all around the house, and fill the lower 2-3 ft with large aggregate. Then 1-2 ft of pea gravel and then a very humus soil so there can be still good drainage and yet not have to have the gravel all the way to the surface. With the drain field lower than the house, it will automatically draw the water away from the house and to the field. The filed could also have a pond area in the center for a pond, also can use it as an earthen battery to assist in the power supply, especially for those days of little sunlight for the photovoltaic panels.

    People definitely need a way to have more affordable homes. This is an interesting concept. Like so many, it will probably be difficult to find a state/county that will allow you to build something like this. Zoning laws need to be updated to fit the needs of the times and the people.

    • @solarpanel8195
      @solarpanel8195 Před 5 lety +14

      totally agree!!!! We need pieces of land outside of major cities that are totally open to people to plant food on and pop up little eco-domes like this to live on... so many homesless people could be doing THIS instead of rotting in the concrete jungles...

    • @MDaVela
      @MDaVela Před 5 lety +8

      These tiny homes are among the most affordable I've seen! Cal-Earth Institute's superadobe designs - like the one in this video - conform to one of the most strict buildingcode's in the world actually, California's. They are both tornado and earth quake resistant, low cost, low maintenance, eco friendly, space saving.. any city that wants to portray themselves as pro-green/eco-friendly should be happy to welcome initiatives like the one seen in this video. In any way, they are safer than the standard box-shaped homes which are just asking to be blown over and collapse under nature's bigger stressors.

    • @brucea550
      @brucea550 Před 4 lety +7

      This dwelling is protected from earthquake, fire, hurricane, tornado, pretty much bulletproof (literally *that* too!). It’s beautiful too, in that there are no harsh lines or corners. From the inside, this makes air flow better- more efficient heating and cooling. I suspect the initial problem with humidity had to do with all the moist sand in the bags.
