- To learn more about Seb and Isa's earth bag "ecodome" home, and their off-grid piece of paradise, check out their website here: www.eco-dome.ca/
They have solar power, propane, and a rocket stove, and they're planting native trees, mushrooms, etc. along a path to create a permaculture food source on their property.
They also have a tipi and a yurt, in addition to the earthbag structure, where people can come to spend some time in nature, enjoy the trails they've set up, and learn different skills from basket weaving to building a rocket stove.
Seb and Isa are two very inspiring and hard working people who are a pleasure to be around. It's also very nice to see people putting their beliefs and ideals into action. Their sustainable off grid project is called La Nature à l'état Pur.
The eco dome is built using plans for a SuperAdobe home, which they learned how to build in California at the CalEarth Institute. You can check out their website here to learn about their courses and programs:
www.calearth.org/
CalEarth was founded by architect Nader Khalili:
"Cal-Earth, the California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture, is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to providing solutions to the human need for shelter through research, development, and education in earth architecture. We envision a world in which every person is empowered to build a safe and sustainable home with their own hands, using the earth under their feet."

Imagine learning to be self sufficient, not just for building your own home but also farming your yard, growing vegetables and small livestock, just imagine how FREE we would all be, free from corporate domination and control......
Agreed. We all should learn how to build our own home. I like the idea of teaching that skill at schools. 👍🏻
Poor land management has stopped people from being able to use the land for what it should be used for. Modern road systems dissect the land and separate valuable parts that could be used for local markets. It's either globalism or localism and globalism is the most immensely wasteful system the world has ever seen. At the local level all the waste and infrastructure is maintained in sight and can be reduced through management at that level which will reduce it 1000 fold across all the local communities. Globalism is killing the earth.

i agree this is what should be taught in our schools...how to live!
john doe they are already teaching our kids to be politically correct and how and for whom they should vote. If a boy acts as a boy they are punished and schools are requiring the parents to have them medicated.
Gotta keep them dumbed down. Wouldn't want too many thinking and doing for themselves. That would be too much like tyranny.
I agree! You learn this when you are young and build it when you are young, in shape and healthy, then enjoy it for the rest of your life and/or let the next generation enjoy it too! Doing this when you are older would be very challenging.
john doe, *oh yeah, schools, that are destroing kids' mental health. Wake up!*
Great idea 💡 but doubt that our government I mean ilumina...... would want that reason why they was us to be dependent on them and there company.
Speaking as a builder, the amount of work you have done to get this finished is incredible well done and congratulations on a very unique and beautiful looking home .
Yes, I was thinking 4 months wasn't that long, then they added the 6 days a week, 12-15 hours a day, and I was a bit more impressed. :)
It's a lovely home. There's a wonderful charm and friendliness to structures with curves and domes. They just 'feel' natural and 'normal'. If Seb and Isa run out of things to do, they could do some sampling on their land for gold and other precious metals. You never know!
The external color of the ecodome is the original membrane color, it's not been painted yet, but we are opened for color suggestion. Thanks a lot Danielle and Mathieu for this great work .
Thanks for sharing your story with us! It was so great meeting both of you and getting to spend a bit of time together. We wish you the best of luck and hope you have an amazing summer :) :)
What color did you choose? I'm excited to see the result!😍
These would look cool in gray, brown peak to ground striped pattern. Basically it would end up looking like a thatched hut. Very natural looking.
Sébastien Côté Paint It to look like the forest it's in .
Live moss would be a neat way to cover the home and make it blend in.
My heart goes out to them for so much hard work. Filling these bags with soil using a tin was very labour intensive! Well done!!!
I FULLY agree that THESE types of skills should be TAUGHT. Just like Home-Ech & Shop used to be. I LUV what U R doing.
This has to be one of the most interesting builds I've come across, ever. It's so cool you don't use any man-made resources to build this house & the look is just fairyland cute. I absolute "love" this house & would enjoy learning more about it. Thanks for posting.
I think there was a lot of man made elements, such as plumbing, electrical, the slab, etc, but overall I agree, it’s a cool build.
I seriously admire these people. Amazing.
Beautiful! Now, with the concrete flooring, that would still not stop the moisture accumulation. What is needed is a drain field and lower than the house drains away to that field. And even though the place is built, the drainage can still be dug. Digging about 4-5 ft down all around the house, and fill the lower 2-3 ft with large aggregate. Then 1-2 ft of pea gravel and then a very humus soil so there can be still good drainage and yet not have to have the gravel all the way to the surface. With the drain field lower than the house, it will automatically draw the water away from the house and to the field. The filed could also have a pond area in the center for a pond, also can use it as an earthen battery to assist in the power supply, especially for those days of little sunlight for the photovoltaic panels.
Ideas like this come from someone who thinks outside the box of mcmansion architecture. The idea just makes low maintenance sense. Great video!
Watching from Auckland
These houses are beautiful, they look amazing on land! I wish it was legal to build them in Scotland!
What a calm peaceful inviting home 👍👍
I really like this. They were lucky to get planning permission and some help to make it: so much hard work. I wish them well.
As a training civil engineer..... WHOA! I really like this.
I am looking to make mold for semi circling shape of tiny house, to build in panels with aircrete plus layer of liquid insulation which is sturdy I think, do I need to put steel in isde insulation or aircrete layer to make it strong,
WOW, I love their whole place it's amazing! Thank you!
To get ppl to build things again .. beautiful
This is one of my favorite videos you all have done! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks Jane!! I'm happy you enjoyed checking out this SuperAdobe home. It's definitely one of our favorites so far too :)
Wow.....I love your home.....what an awesome structure! Congrats, Seb and Isa!
i just love that design. cant get enough of it. it looks so beautiful
Thank you for the interesting building info, I'm a young Architect from Nigeria, looking to major my career in Earth Architecture. I love what you guys do!
Nigeria would be perfect place for an adobe home because of it's desert like climate ... the rocket stove may not be needed but a form of it for cooking that not only allows cooking indoors on miserable days but allows for cooking outdoors as well would be an excellent addition
I love the shape of the home. Really beautiful.

Nader Khalili is probably my fellow Iranian. His name shows. Bravo!
Absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing your victory with us. God bless your family
Your home is beautiful in so many ways. I especially like that ya'll found creative ways to solve the various issues that came up.
Been following you a long time and you never disappoint👍 I agree with the builder, this type of skill should be taught in school.
Thanks so much for following us and for your positive comment :) :)
Amazing !!! I wish that this was taught in our schools,...we should be building our own homes using natural materials !!!
Wonderful, fabulous, amazing structure!
People definitely need a way to have more affordable homes. This is an interesting concept. Like so many, it will probably be difficult to find a state/county that will allow you to build something like this. Zoning laws need to be updated to fit the needs of the times and the people.
totally agree!!!! We need pieces of land outside of major cities that are totally open to people to plant food on and pop up little eco-domes like this to live on... so many homesless people could be doing THIS instead of rotting in the concrete jungles...
These tiny homes are among the most affordable I've seen! Cal-Earth Institute's superadobe designs - like the one in this video - conform to one of the most strict buildingcode's in the world actually, California's. They are both tornado and earth quake resistant, low cost, low maintenance, eco friendly, space saving.. any city that wants to portray themselves as pro-green/eco-friendly should be happy to welcome initiatives like the one seen in this video. In any way, they are safer than the standard box-shaped homes which are just asking to be blown over and collapse under nature's bigger stressors.
This dwelling is protected from earthquake, fire, hurricane, tornado, pretty much bulletproof (literally *that* too!). It’s beautiful too, in that there are no harsh lines or corners. From the inside, this makes air flow better- more efficient heating and cooling. I suspect the initial problem with humidity had to do with all the moist sand in the bags.
I read that a house like this has been permitted in San Bernardino in California
Fahjah Fajitas You need zoning laws because you're a little sister.
And I must say it...French sounds SO beautiful. 😊
This is probably the most inspiring video on this subject to date for me! Love it! So glad for the links as well! Thank you!
There's a girl who did this in Arizona, and it gets pretty damn hot down there.
Thats my kind of People. Keep it up guys
Excellent. I love this building!
Really, this technique is very unique! There is no wastage of time for curing!! Using sandbags initially and finish with Cement mortar for plastering is a wonderful idea!!! -- M.B. Jayaram, Chennai, INDIA
That adobe house is kickass! Excellent idea take to fruition! Love it!

All basic and beyond basic (like building houses) should be taught. No one ever thinks anyone will ever pull the plug. Fact is, it's inevitable.
Our kids won't have a clue how to survive.
Earth friendly, nice i proud of your wonderful house construction,

My little Homestead follows the adventures of Earth bag builder family in the American SW. Very cool structures and heartwarming as they evolve towards a greener self sustaining lifestyle. Their buildings are completed for less than 3000$ often

This is a great design for a warm country but with those domes it will be impossible to heat.
How cool is that!!!!
Absolutely amazing house! Me and my husband want to build one too. I would love to know what plaster you have used inside to finish the internal walls and also bathroom without having tiles (which my husband and I hate to be fair). Thank you for sharing your story with the rest of us!
