GWM Cannon Alpha Diesel Ute 2024 Review

  • There are two takes on the GWM Cannon Alpha ute theme, and this is the diesel version.
    If you want to learn about the hybrid model be sure to check this video out: • HYBRID UTE tested!! GW...
    Meanwhile, the diesel might actually be the standout offering in the GWM Cannon Alpha range, with a significantly lower price but still with heaps of standard equipment and safety gear, and heaps of luxury and space.
    I drove the base model Lux at $51,990 drive-away (AUD), and there's a plusher Ultra model for a bit more ($57,990 drive-away - AUD) which will stand out more to those on a budget than the hybrid petrol-electric model at $64,990 driveaway (AUD).
    In this review I cover off pricing, specs and standard equipment, towing capacity, GVM, GCM, payload, fuel economy, safety, ownership inc warranty and servicing, and much more.
    Let me know what you think about it in the comments!

    it is coil rear suspension in China, which feels as comfort as a Tank 500…but GWM changes to leaf springs to get 3.5T towing rating for Australia…

    @goldfools5445 Před měsícem +9

    Considering even in expensive mainstream utes, lifestyle users will upgrade the tyres and suspension almost straight away, the ride and tyre issues can be tailored to the user and the cost still be below the purchase price of a base mainstream.

    Great review, I love it! I think the Ultra Diesel would be my pick, but the Hybrid is somewhat tempting too for the power alone (despite the issues you mentioned in your other review). Would have to test both and see which is most liveable.

    i still prefer the name King Kong Cannon 😊. Still this is a unit,the comprables are spot on ,anyone looking for something of this size in this price range would also look at something like a Musso. I like that the isofix is where it is which is just the best when fitting in child seats in a ute(also loving all those storage compartments in the back,makes a very good case for being family friendly). Finally I dont see this ute not getting 5 stars from ANCAP and the car its based on(Tank 500) has a 5 start rating,for what thats worth these days.

    When you review these vehicles, what tyre pressure do you set? Just so all the comparisons between vehicles are consistent. I’ve recently collected an empty ute from a dealer and it rode like crap and was also losing traction too much. A quick stop at a servo…they’d set it to 45psi. I changed to 34psi and it made a WORLD of difference to how rough it felt.

    Great review, as always.
    The one question i was hoping might be answered directly is whether you see enough value to jump from spending, say, the mid forty thousands on Cannon X..to potentially in the low sixty thousands for an Alpha. Or whether the Alpha just points to the X being really good value for what it is. Keen to know how your spending decision would play out..

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  Před měsícem

      The practicality is not THAT much better for the Alpha, despite it being much nicer inside and with more street presence.
      If budget is the most important thing, the Cannon X is the go. It ticks the boxes well enough for the money.

    Well given the Ranger and the Amarok are pretty much engineering time bombs... gonna say the chinese ute is far and away more likely to still be running in 10 years. Ford and VW reliability is just there long term anymore, nor has it for a decade. I see great wall utes from 15 years ago still running with 300km on the clock; the only rangers and amaroks whom get that are fleet buys that rack up those miles in a few years before time becomes a factor and are chucked.
