    Years back Dad and I raised bees. We had two similar extractors. We used heat tapes, (like you'd wrap around pipes to keep them from freezing in the winter) wrapped around the extractors to warm the honey so it flowed easier from the honey gate.

      That's a good idea! It's hard to let any of that precious honey go to waste, a little heat would help get every last drop. Thanks for the comment

    I've got the 2 frame version of that extractor...I call it Mr. Wobble. I usually take the handle off and attach an electric drill to spin it. It's holding up pretty good for the last 5 years. Extracted 27 gallons last year with it. I made a platform that the feet fit into precisely. It helps with the wobbles.

      It's definitely wobbly when you first start extracting. Gotta watch your toes.

    I bought exactly the same extractor few months ago. However I gave the tank and the basket thorough wash with bleach and soda crystals and copious amount of hot water and then assembled all the parts once properly dry. You need to be super hygienic specially if you intend selling some of your Honey. As to the extraction, ideally the top bars of the honey frames need to be parallel to the outer rim of the tank and bottom bars close to the center of the extractor. For this reason the design of the basket is not ideal. However I did manage to fit in 8 frames at a time (instead of 4) by coming up with a cleaver solution and utilizing one spin session without needing to flip the frames over. I will also build a strong wooden frame where the thank will sit in (without the legs) to make it sturdy and wobble free when spinning and finally add a motor to make it more automated.

      I totally understand being hygienic, I make homebrewed beer and I swear most of the time spent making it is santitizing. I will have to give your way of spinning the frame a go this year. Thanks for watch the video and leaving me a comment.

    Hey, under the bar where the mechanism for turning the frame basket is located , there is a red hard rubber piece that may break and cause the turning mechanism to detach and not turn. I replaced it using a 5/8 x5/8 piece of wood inserting it in that area and the basket was able rotate once again.

      Thanks for the tip, I will keep that in mind if I run into problems in the future.

    Duck tape will do to patch broken cover. Had to add wooden blocks under legs too. Also bolted legs to scrape plywood to stabilize. Works great. Glad to see girls helping out and having fun too.

      Thanks for watching the video! The seller had shipped a replacement lid and had finally arrived a few days after this video was posted. I will definitely need to secure the base next year when I extract again.

    I bought the same extractor on line for $325.
    It worked well until one of the leg bolt lugs snapped off. It appears that the spot welding was not as solid as it should have been. It's at a welding shop getting welded back on, and I'm having him beef-up the spot welds on the other bolts. The shortness of the legs is a bit of a headache so I too put blocks under each leg so I can get the 5 gallon honey bucket under the honey gate.

      @RethanHunter Před 11 měsíci

      Wow that's too bad the leg broke, definitely not something you want to happen while harvesting honey. Let me know how the new welds hold up!

    10:44 I'm impressed the frames didn't need to be locked down or even centered carefully.

    • @homegrownhobbies8481

      It did have a good wobble in the beginning but once the bulk of the honey is spun out it is much smoother

    How does cleaning go on these, seems like it would be a nightmare because of the size and the stickiness.

    • @RethanHunter
      @RethanHunter Před 4 měsíci

      The cleanup is not bad actually. Everything dismantled easily. I first bring it out to the hive to allow the bees time to gather what they can. Then it's a quick wash with the hose.

    Curious....what is the measurement on the widest part of the basket? It almost looks like I could fit a layens frame into that basket, which would be amazing.

    I see you are extracting outside without any trouble from your bees. It would be very handy to be able to do this, but think I would get swapped by my bees ??

      I was extracting outside just because of the lighting. The bees eventually chased me inside haha. I would recommend extracting inside unless your adventurous like me

    Got to ask did the company send you your replacement lid? And what is the make of the extractor and model. I think keeping you 5 weeks is to me disgraceful it's like we have your money now bugger off! I'm more then likely will avoid this company as the way they treat their customers is bad.

      Funny thing is the replacement lid came in the week after I released the video. So far I'm pretty happy with the purchase, we will see how it holds up over the years
