    Please run Frontrunner on Sundays, it's a huge oversight for students who visit home on weekends and people going to downtown on Sunday (not to mention the people who WORK on Sunday)

      Apparently they don't want to pay the conductors time and a half for Sundays...their budget needs a boost!

    • @redpandaz5146
      @redpandaz5146 Před měsícem +7

      I heard the issue is that they only have singletrack for most of the route, which means that if they need to do maintainance they have to shut down an entire section of the line, so they don't run on Sundays to do maintainance

    • @porterwarren4688

      Yes to all the above. Also if we need additional reasons that might speak more to certain demographics (that have sway on the State Budget) includes a majority of the State Legislature. Sunday Service would also enable people to better access Temple Square and to even attend the Sunday Session of General Conference while being eco friendly.

      Frontrunner is actually doing/planning the following projects: buying extra railcars and locomotives, upgrading service to 15-minute headways, running on Sundays, peak service every 7,5 minutes, buying BEMU trains (battery-electric multiple-unit) and upgrading service to 110mph, quad tracking certain sections and limited stop trains that only stop at major stations.

      @@StefanWithTrains3222 Hopefully they eventually switch from BEMU to actual EMUs sometime in the future. With the Stadler factory right there it'd be nice to get Stadler KISSes. And then they can even put a like, "proudly made in Utah" sticker on it

    • @drdewott9154
      @drdewott9154 Před měsícem +3

      Yeah. Heck the manufacturing plant that built the trains for Caltrain, Stadler USA, is located in Utah already! Just get them onboard, finance the overhead wires and order a bunch of electric double decker trainsets for the Frontrunner. The old equipment can then possibly go to other cities across the US that are trying to start their own passenger rail services, like Raleigh.

    • @UPRailRoad-xg8cb
      @UPRailRoad-xg8cb Před měsícem +3

      @@drdewott9154 Not just in Utah but right there in Salt Lake City. Real easy to order some KISS units for them. Could even make them DEMU's so they could start service as soon as UTA gets them without the cost of overhead wires which could be added overtime.

    • @drdewott9154
      @drdewott9154 Před měsícem +2

      @@UPRailRoad-xg8cb Maybe but Diesel trains are awful for the environment. Stadler have however been a front runner with battery trains and already have ones succesfully in service in Germany. They did propose a battery version of their Kiss trains for the MBTA in Boston recently, with 3 normal double decker coaches and one coach thats all batteries. That could be a pretty ideal setup for the Frontrunner, and also work great as a demonstrator of what Stadler can do.

    • @UPRailRoad-xg8cb
      @UPRailRoad-xg8cb Před měsícem +2

      @drdewott9154 The problem is practicality. They have the infrastructure to support diesel while they build the overhead wires for electrification. It doesn't make sense to transition from diesel to batteries to overhead electrification. A lot of wasted time and money. It is better to rely on the current system until the new one is ready to take over, just like what CalTrain is doing. Plus, they could electrify parts of the line as they complete them. Thus, not being entirely reliant on diesel.

    This is how you do the Olympics! You don't give billionaire stadium owners more tax payer money, you use the games to meaningfully invest in the future of your city. The more transit you build, the better you can utilize land because the less you'll need giant parking lots. And that means more small businesses, more housing options, and more tax revenue to reinvest in your city. Keep it up SLC! You punch above your weight in so many ways.

    Front runner should be converted to electric power so they can run even more trains in addition to double tracking the routes. They could easily acquire the Stadler train sets (their U.S. factory is near Salt Lake and they just built the new electric Caltrains fleet). And perhaps with a Commuter Rail extension to the airport it could be built to accommodate the light rail in a weather enclosed facility that’s future proofed for the Games.
