Hi the Lord called me to Celibacy after divorce. I had no idea why. Then 9 years later he showed me why... because remarriage is adultery and he wanted to save me from that. I'm now 20 years single and celibate. The Bible is very clear on this issue. If we are divorced or separated we need to remain single or reconcile, nowhere are we told we are free to remarry.

Remarriage and divorce is so confusing bro😂😂😭. All I know is if you divorce and remarry you’re an adulterer period. If you divorce, you have to remain unmarried or be reconciled back to your spouse but if your spouse dies, you’re free to marry again. What confuses me is the forgiveness part of being in a remarriage. So if I remarry , I can just ask for forgiveness and remain married?? Isn’t that willfully sin?? I’m married and planning on divorce but I’m definitely not remarrying , but I just wanna know how all this works . Cause adultery is one of the biggest sins in the church that nobody really talks about

It actually says that Matt 19:9 verse, in fact. It gives u the answer if you remove part of the verse where it says except for unfaithfulness.
And you marry another, you committed adultery, and whoever marries that person also marries the person also commit
adultery. Now, based on this, no one can remarry because it was forever. Now u add the verse except for unfaithfulness. In my understanding, It imply that christ is saying this is the reason u could divorce. Now, the new Testament expounds on this because of freedom in Christ. In which I would take the entire Roman 7 for context, but we could sum it up better this way. You are not supposed to be Remarry, period. Once you do, you committed adultery. The freedom of christ doesn't allow u to continue sinning if that is what u thought. I'm sorry that I gave that impression that wasn't my intention. Now remarriage is not perpetual sin if the spouse who is faithful spouse who didn't commit sin has no intention to sin against their marriage. I believe Roman 7 gives the faithful spouse freedom to depart from the situation because christ paid for all their sins

This seems to suggest they are ACTIVELY, living in sin. Luke 16:18. A young lady who has a channel called, "MotivatingU2Win" just did a very convincing breakdown of this. @rrofgend Před rokem +12

I agree. People take salvation often times out of context as a liberty to sin. Yes sin is unfaithfulness to God's Word. We've all sinned but look at all that Jesus gave of to be free to obey. Marriage mirrors your commitment to God (covenant), that cannot be compared to other things, because the believer understands the context of marriage. We may be unfaithful but we are told to be consistent and God accepts us (we don't divorce Him), but we're told that should not be reflected and God is not sufficient to remain single. You have no need to burn if you are satisfied with marriage-you either chose to leave, or you chose an unfaithful person to leave you who was not in accordance to the Word when you married them, none-of these are faithfulness. This is no different than all the false teachers being sin sensitive. Now let me see what Cory says about a pastor being fit to pastor being remarried with a living wife.

Should the victim (for instance a 20 year old male or female)then be doomed to have to live the rest of their life alone? The punishment is compounded by the victim being sentenced to a life alone without the hope of ever having children and a happy normal family?

Respectfully I do not agree with this because it's not biblical. I wish people would stop looking for loopholes to break a Covenant. Marriage isn't a relationship it's meant until death. People date to marry to stay married for a lifetime. In Ecclesiastes 5:4-7 God says don't make a vow if you won't keep it. It's a sad thing when people don't care about breaking a Covenant not only with their spouse but with God as well.

It was a significant loss for me. My parents remarried and my step father was abusive. My stepmother was controlling of my dad and prevented a close relationship.
Like I said it was a significant loss. I still struggle with it to this day. I think remarriage is horrible, especially when children are involved. My family was pretty much destroyed, and my identity with a cohesive family unit was totally annihilated.

God hates divorce, but because of sin , he allowed it. In Mt 19 he tells the Pharisees that Moses permitted a certificate of divorce because of the "hardness of man's heart," he then states but "in the beginning" it was not so. She was not abusing him, nor was she exercising any demonic control over him... Not only that, but God himself had issued a DIVORCE to Israel for their unfaithfulness to Him! Does that mean God Sinned? He did later recocile with Israel, hence the illustration of Hosea and his wife, but God still did Divorce Israel before! So did God SIN? Was His heart HARD? How your mind can use that account of Hosea the prophet's unique life to justify your stance is unbelievably elementary. Moreover, someone who has gotten a divorce because they are being abused by a narcissist does not have a "hard heart" nor have they done anything wrong in doing so! Self preservation is a good thing and God absolutely supports that! Why, oh why do so many Christians chuck their common sense out the door when it comes to things like this?! Narcissistic abusers do not change and they literally Hide behind religion, which is extremely convenient and easy for them to to because most religious people think you can "pray it away", or "love the evil put of the person"... I think the scriptures make a pretty good case for physical abuse as a justifiable reason for divorce.
The Scriptures are all about preserving life.
The Bible teaches the principle that commandments can be broken in order to save, heal or preserve life.
EXAMPLE #1: In Joshua 2, Rahab took in the two Israelite spies and hid them. The soldiers of Jericho searched for the spies in order to kill them.
She lied to the soldiers of Jericho that she didn’t know where they were.
She didnt lie for dishonest gain or for unjust reasons. She lied in order to preserve the life of the two spies.
Rahab was blessed for it (Hebrews 11).
EXAMPLE #2. Jesus used the example of how David, who was on the run from Saul, ate the Temple bread that was ONLY for the priest according to the Law.
David went by the Tabernacle and ate the Temple bread so that he could have food to sustain himself, so that he could continue running for his life… Saul was seeking to kill David.
God allowed it, because David was running for his life.
Now if David did that under normal circumstances, it would have been sin.
EXAMPLE #3: in Exodus 1, the Hebrew Midwives lie to Pharoah in order to save the lives of the Hebrew male newborns.
God blessed them for it (verses 20-21).
Many other examples can be made.
This lets us know that even though divorce is generally wrong, it can be justified in the case of physical abuse… as one’s life is in danger.

Remarriage does not represent the relationship between Christ and the church. The question is how does remarriage reflect the image of Christ and his church. We cheat on God daily and he never divorces us. Marriage was meant to reflect that relationship. It is not a conversion issue but remarriage is definitely a sanctification issue and is not of God. There is no clause for remarriage in the new testament. If we believe in once saved always saved we must believe in once married always married. AMEN

Thank you for trying to be clear & concise in your answer. As a pastor, I often deal with this question. Sad to say, there is no end to the answers that are given from endless "Christian" sources. Some are so liberal in their treatment of the subject that they have the attitude of teaching that one should do whatever they think best, without any appeal to Scripture.
In short, let me say that I applaud your attempt to answer this most important question & be true to the Word at the same time. I think you accomplished your goal & did a wonderful job at it in dealing with a very difficult subject. I also think you effectively answered the question of a person being in a state of sin as being opposed to an act of sin on their part.
All that being said, not everyone will agree with your conclusions. That is between them & God. I believe that the way you have addressed this subject will help countless people to find the will of God for their individual situation, whatever that may be. Thank you, my brother!

Remarriage is not scriptural for any reason except after the death of one’s spouse. Even if one spouse is guilty of sexual immorality. The exception clause is stated ONLY for the question of divorce, NOT remarriage. Plus Jesus was answering their question in regards to Moses’ law, not Christianity. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 that separation or reconciliation are the only two options because you are BOUND TILL DEATH, 1 Corinthians 7:39, Romans 7:1-3.
Remarriage is not part of God’s plan for forgiveness, reconciliation, or redemption.
Remarriage, if your spouse is still living, is done purely out of fleshly and worldly desires. Reconciliation is God’s will and perfect plan, not remarriage!

The no grounds for divorce doctrine is usually supported by two sad groups of people.
    1. The ones who have a spouse who left them and want the spouse to come back so they threaten the spouse with hell.
    2. The whores in the marriage that want to be whores but don't want the spouse to leave so you threaten them with hell.
Jesus clearly said you can leave if there is sexual immorality. Jesus is not expecting us to stay married to someone bringing us aids and herpes. Sexual immorality is the grounds Jesus gave for divorce.
Corinthians mentions abandonment as a grounds for divorce. Paul said we are not under bondage (bound to a husband as long as he Liveth) we are no longer under bondage and called to peace (we have peace with God in this area).
Do not lay burdens on the people of God that God did not lay on us.

      @davesenatus5566 Před rokem +4

Yes, we know this. Jesus already said the grounds for divorce as Moses was also allowed to remarry but it is seen as the LAST option. You should only divorce if your wife/husband has been unfaithful and you cannot take it and feel as though you'd harbor feelings when in the same room or bed; so yes aids/herpes may be viable. But in that sense, it shouldn't be something that is quick to do as God hates divorce. Our brother was focusing on whether or not it is a sin to remarry.

If you repent of sinning would you then turn and commit another sin? The tense of the verb used is NOT continuous. That is, it is not you being in a state of sin but that you have committed the act of a sin. You are grossly missing the principle of repentance , forgiveness, and reconciliation. You are making this sin to be an unforgivable sin. The adulterous person that cannot enter heaven is the person who actively and consistently engages in it. Simply examine the tense of the verb used. Furthermore, the "Adulterer" is not limited to sexual adultery. If a sinning person has been placed in right standing (They are righteous because of their faith) they WILL enter into heaven.

I believe one of the most important things to take away from what Corey shared is that, the acts themselves (divorce/ remarriage) are sinful but, they don't damn you to a perpetual state of sin. I was married, and divorced, young. My current wife and I have been married almost 17 years, and my ex- wife longer than that. Am I to believe that God would have us to leave the spouses, and children we've had with them, to remarry one another? I don't believe that God would be glorified in that.
I love what you and your team are doing Corey. Keep allowing God to use you. Be blessed!

How can a remarried person repent for their sins if they are still in sin? Once you repent you are sorry for your wrong and then you have to strive to come out of that sinful state. While that person is in their second marriage. They are living in adultery and in a constant state of back sliding. that person has to come out of that adultress marriage in order to fully repent. And if the cheating spouse don't want reconciliation its ok to remarry? 1 Question- 1 Statement-
If a pastor is the husband of 1 wife. Can a man be a pastor whose wife does not die be re-married and be in the office of a pastor. Obviously, Marcus Rogers is a false teacher but he has been married multiple while being in the faith. Does remarriage disqualify a man from being a pastor as he is supposed to be an example?
The woman at the well is a poor example to support re-marriage not being a perpetual sin as she was not married- as Jesus said the man she was with was not her husband. Also the woman at the well was a Samaritan not a Jew- though she has those that were Jews in her bloodline. Jesus is not condoning her current relationship, so how can you use that to support your claim- it does n't make sense? Even Jesus himself said God hates divorce. The woman caught in the act of adultery was told to go and sin no more. Now for those that know the text and still re-marry or divorce, or those who see the video-it is similar to lying. I can understand one who did not know but to the one who knew, what the point of Jesus dying that we can bring the flesh subject, Jesus did not tell her to get remarried so she wont burn, He told her to believe upon Him. A Samaritan was like an unbeliever- she was not told to get married so she would be right, It's a question to show her disposition to being outside of the Word to receiving what Jesus was offering. Hence she would have no need for all these men she was obviously seeking something. Even Voddie Baucham said he won't re-marry someone who has been divorced, although he would not tell someone who is already re-married to get divorced. How do we come away from sin when some is allowed and some is not, this message to those who are considering re-marriage is saying it okay just repent after. He himself said it is not a perpetual sin. But it is for the person that remarries adulteress???? If you remarry a woman that committed adultery you're an adulterer (continuous) but if you willingly divorce and get remarried you are forgiving having known that from the beginning, cause you can't stay by yourself or be faithful to your vow to God to remain married (not person...God). This is a false teaching...surely what you believe not what scripture says...very contradictory.

There is no way the Holy Spirit would lead us to remarry an live in adultery. To often we do what is in our hearts and say it was of God when it is of us living in the flesh. Whether married to a believer or not, if separated or divorce we are to remain so. Many divorcees wrestle with this thought because they know it is wrong. We can't try to justify ourselves.

Matthew 19:8 talks about hardness of heart as a valid reason for divorce.
If a person does not want to repent or reconcile then divorce is probably the only valid option.
1 cor 7:15, says that But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.
So this sums it up nicely for divorce.
A hardened heart can make a person act as an unbeliever, the other person is not at fault for this circumstance.
God has called us to live in peace. We cannot force anyone to be with us who does not want to. Not even God forces us.
Had to learn it the hard way....
    But God is good.

Fornication is an umbrella term referring to ALL sexual sin. In Jude 1:7 it refers to homosexuality as “fornication”.
1 Cor 5:1 it refers to incest as “fornication”.
Ezekiel 16 classifies “adultery” as fornication. It even portrays Israel as an “adulterous wife” who “committed fornication”. (Verse 32)
Deuteronomy 24 applies to more than simply the betrothal period. It says, “When a man has taken a WIFE and has MARRIED her…”
God did allow for divorce in special cases. Outside of those special cases, we are to remain unmarried.
We have to remember that Yahweh Himself is a divorced man. (Jeremiah 3:8)

Well too bad for sexless marriages (which men will understand this more than women) and being abused in marriage ....
I understand thr Bible soesnt specify any of those things but to say God hates divorce, concerning the times that they were in, where abuse was not addressed let alone a sexless marriage it goes to show how nuanced we should be towards this issue

...keep reading 1st Corinthians 7, "How do you know if you will save your HUSBAND." The Bible does not use the term ex-husband nor ex-wife. Check the Greek in Luke 16:18, it is in the present continuing verb tense. Whoever puts away away his wife and marries another commits (continuing verb tense) adultery. The last verse of 1st Cor. 7 should clarify any confusion about that chapter. The wife is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. Romans 7 confirms this. Like any sin, we are called to repent (confess & stop the sinning).

Ultimately, after a divorce, reconciliation to Christ and to your ex-spouse is what the scriptures point out. I am twice divorced and would rather be 100% celibate (no masturbation, no mental fantasies) for the rest of my life. Now, according to 1 Cor 7, the BEST thing to do is to be reconciled to my ex-spouse and we get remarried. Yet, in John 4 if someone were to remarry someone not their ex-spouse, they are forgiven in Christ.

You are brave to delve into such a controversial issue. Being a divorcee myself and being a missionary evangelist it's an issue I had to deeply examine this issue alot. I've found it's very complicated and relies alot on translations of Hebrew and Greek that many English translations lack and an understanding of the cultural backgrounds.
But as an evangelist IMO it's a major sin in the Western church and many bible teachers aren't helping.
I've thought of doing my own video series on it, but not yet.
Just a few pointers from your video.
Malachi 2:16 should NOT be translated as "I hate divorce" but more like the NIV "the man who HATES and divorces his wife" .
Likewise, Deuteronomy 24:1-4 did not give permission for a man to divorce his wife under the Old covenant. RATHER as Hebrew scholars John Walton (from Wheaton College) says that verse 4 it s the point and all translations are incorrect. It should say " she caused herself to declare herself defiled" so it's a specific cultural situation.
In the end the OT passages are irrelevant.
Also most scholars on the NT seemingly forget that Israel was a polygamous society and even Herod the Great had two wives. Polygyny was never a sin. But a woman was not permitted to divorce or have more than one husband.
That doesn't apply IMO in our Western monogamous society in the exactly the same way.
IMO, the case of John the Baptist rebuking Herod over his remarriage to Heridius is a case of the necessity of leaving a remarriage.. especially since Herodius divorced her husband Philip.(See Josephus)
Perhaps you can interview Dr.John Walton on Deuteronomy 24 and Malachi 2. I'm sure he'd oblige.
I write this not as a critique but question for further investigation.

    1. God hates divorce. (Malachi 2:16)
    2. It is only by death that the person is considered “unmarried.” (Romans 7:2-3)
    3. If the person does divorce then they must remain unmarried. (1 Corinthians 7:10-11)
    4. Only grounds for divorce are adultery (Matthew 5:32) and abandonment by an unbeliever (1 Corinthians 7:15)
When Abraham gave up Sarah as his “sister” to the Pharaoh, God sent plagues, and Pharah was revealed that she was married and he returned her back to Abraham.
Romans 7:3: if the person lives with another man while her husband is alive that person is considered an adulterous. It seems to me that if that person doesn’t want to be considered an adulterous then that person needs to stop living with the person that isn’t their spouse.
There is more in the scripture but I believe this will suffice. There could be a debate in regards of the person being in or out of Christ at the time of divorce but I don’t see/know/think how this would allow remarriage though. Maybe I’m wrong this is my stance though. Marriage is Holy and sacred. The disciples even said to Jesus “if such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” Jesus reply was that some men have been made eunuchs by themselves for the kingdom of heaven.
This is such a tough subject but let’s use the substitute sin principle for remarriage. A remarriage relationship is a sin. We all agree. So if I repent of this remarriage relationship this means I can stay in the relationship?….. now let’s replace the sin with a different one. A homosexual relationship is a sin. We all agree. So if I repent of this homosexual relationship this means I can stay in the relationship?
    What do you think?

Can’t use homosexual as an example because it was NEVER established that way. Of course you have to leave that homosexual relationship. BUT there was remarriage in the word in Deuteronomy . Whether a person wants to go against remarriage it was established . The Lord obviously allowed Moses to implement it or he would have told Moses NO. Im just saying that remarriage is in the Bible . Not actually condoning it . Also majority of marriages were not made by vows. If you designed your marriage with vows ( actually VOWING ) under the Lord God then I would say that’s a legit marriage. Majority of marriages are made by a promise and the end of the promises made . The officiate says under the power invested in them and the state . I pronounce you husband and wife… They never say under the Lord God almighty and through the VOWS made and binding covenant . Through the blessing and witnesses of our King and friends and family I pronounce you husband and wife… I believe most marriage aren’t actually marriages.. They are government contracts only. Never truly blessed by the Most High Yah

Nothing is more confusing in scripture than this issue of divorce and remarriage. I've been plowing through numerous videos discussing this topic, and I'm still confused. There is the old testament(law) and new testament(grace). There is context to consider and a little mind reading. I wish God would have made it clearer and not left it up to interpretation. The only thing I understand is that God hates divorce. There are a lot of scenarios to consider and we don't want to mess things up. We want to enter the kingdom and to be blessed. I'm single, but I pray for correct understanding.

The word Jesus used was fornication or the betrothal period. Jesus used 2 different words. Jesus said fornication not adultery. You take a covenant to death do you part and there are consequences to sin and living in adultery.

Jesus DID NOT use the word fornication. The English KJV translators used that word to represent porneia which Jesus used. "Porneia" means sexual immorality. In the Greek manuscripts, Jesus says except for sexual immorality, which includes adultery.

If you want to say porneia than first it's a different word than adultery and can mean looking at porn or even adultery in your heart right? So we can divorce for looking at porn? Where in scripture does it say you can remarry? It doesn't. It says the opposite that you remain single (1 Cor 7:10-11) and marriage is a life long contract ( Romans 7:2-3). Fornication is sex between to unmarried people, and people were stoned in those days. "Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commiteth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery "(Matt. 19:9).

He is giving you freedom to get the divorce on any of these grounds if you want. It's not a command to divorce, and besides that would not be advisable in every case as marriages can be restored. The problem many church people have is that they want to impose restrictions on people that Jesus never did. We like to straitjacket people using the Bible as a tool of burden.

I was married off at 16 to a man who was already an adult. He constantly abandoned me for other women, sometimes wouldn't come home for a month, gaslit me & then tried to have me committed for not having an abortion, which failed. Then he came back with an std, stayed for a year, then told me he wanted to see other women. Once I 'grew up', I decided I didn't want a disease, & I outgrew his antics. I realized that was not the life the Most High desired for me or my children, so I let him go. Then, once he realized I prepared to dissolve that marriage, he went berserk, knocked me unconscious & took me away from my apartment to grape me in a city park. I woke up at his aunt's house, sitting on his lap wearing only my night shirt, my undies still wrapped around my ankle, and he was holding a gun & shaking. I had a huge knot on my head and his family did not call aid for me. I was later taken back to my home & told not to say anything. That's not the last time he pulled a gun on me. He also broke into my moms house, stole my stepdad's gun & left them a murder/'unalive' himself note on the family's computer. And the whole time, he had nothing to do with our kids & continued to do drugs & see other women.
It took me years & a LOT of prayer to finally be freed of him. The Lord later answered my prayers & sent me a husband who was a young minister at my church. He was also divorced due to his wife abandoning him to live with another man in a different state. We KNOW God put us together, & we've been joyously married for nearly 17 years now.

Exactly! Some people unknowingly marry an Abuser, or a Perpatual Cheater. Some people are Abandoned by their spouse who leaves them to Marry someone else... In no way does God ever expect that person to remain in such a horrible situation, nor does He expect that person to have to be alone for the rest of their life. Christians often take things way too far and place things on God that never were a part of who He is.

I 100% disagree with this one. Although God hates divorce, you also must know God only recognized marriage or a divorce that's done according to his word. If someone marries, knowing they didn't properly divorce, their spouse is still married in the sight of God. If the same sex gets married it is not recognized as marriage in the eyes of GOD and since its not there in no need for a divorce biblical only legally. Your comparison on how God treats Isreal( isn't a good example due to the fact they were under a unilateral covenant with GOD.
I can go on forever... but bottom line is that stating it's OK to remarry and they simply repent isn't support in the scriptures. That's like saying you can have a same sex couple marry and if they just repent daily they'll be okay... wrong..

Biblicism is a problem in the conservative Christian church today. By “biblicism” I mean an over-rigid adherence to certain Bible texts or teachings at the expense of context and other biblical teachings. Biblicism is a cousin of legalism since both are often quite rigid, demanding, and unforgiving. Some examples of biblicism would be an inflexible adherence to things like courting, abstinence from all alcohol, and insistence on a certain way to run a home (to name just a few). Biblicism often doubts the value of general revelation and sometimes views the Bible as a science textbook. I’ve also noticed that many biblicists are self-taught and sometimes do not like creeds and confessions. Biblicism can lead to many problems in a church’s life and in a Christian’s life.

Cory, I agree with you on many things but this remarriage, I strongly disagree. The greek is fine but Scripture is the best interpretation of Scripture. If Jesus actually said that adultery ends a marriage then Herodias marriage to Phillip would have been over and John the Baptist lied when he said it's "unlawful for you to have your brother Phillip's wife. How could after being such a terrible wife committing adultery with her brother in law. John didn't say "you couldn't have your brother Phillip's ex-wife." So this Scripture proves that a covenant marriage is only dissolvable by death. God said in Gen. what God has joined together let no man separate, the two become one flesh. Jesus repeats this truth. The Apostle Paul states this truth in Ephesians. When looking at about 50 different versions of the Scriptures on Hebrews 13:4 where fornication and adultery are mentioned side by side the word fornication use this several other terms in its place but adultery in its place. This is one of the biggest sins that's going on in the local churches and it's a shame we would never tell anyone to stay and saying except for that sin. God the Father thinks about marriage in the terms He has set. This generation is already worse if the church doesn't take a stand on this matter this matter will cause more to end up in hell. I believe that Jesus was actually talking about fornication and Matthew 5 and in Matthew 19 and the example was what Joseph thought that Mary had done though Mary had done nothing wrong period he was speaking of the engagement period and Jewish culture Ford is in the same letter (book) of Matthew. If it would have been true it would have been in the Book of Luke chapter 16 but it's not in there because Gentiles would not have understood Jewish culture then. So what it says in Luke 16:18 is true for all what makes that vitally important is Luke 1:1-4. Luke states that he carefully wrote down everything and consecutive order because he interviewed witnesses that was with the Lord Jesus Christ. Corey this goes along with you saying what scripture says that we should not go beyond what is written. If scripture gives a example of the topic that's being discussed we should go with the example that the scripture gives us. In order to receive God's mercy two things has to happen that's confessing and forsaking. Other than in the book of Ezra 10 no Covenant marriage is sinful of itself though there may be sinful things that happened within the marriage that needs to be repented of so reconciliation can happen. 1st Corinthians 7:10-11 I believe backs this up because this lady could have left for a million reasons but it tells the husband and verse 11 not to divorce her. In verse 15 and 16 when it talks about not being in bondage is not the release because had it been the husband could have released the wife in verse 11 because she abandoned at him inverse 10.
