The White-faced Ibis is a long-legged bird that can be found in marshes across large parts of the American West 1. It has a dark maroon or brown plumage, a long neck and legs, and a long, decurved bill. Breeding adults have a pink, bare face bordered with white feathers, a grey bill, and brighter-colored, redder legs 2. The handsome bird shimmers with purple, green, and bronze plumage, and breeding adults add to this a ruby-red eye surrounded by a sharp white mask, and pink legs 13. They forage in marshes and wet farm fields, probing their long, curving bills into moist soil, searching for earthworms and other invertebrates.
Caught this one on a cloudy, high-key day plodding through a local marsh pond looking for its first meal of the day (or part of it).
