    I've downgraded from a liter bike with 150 hp to the Scrambler 400X and I'm having a blast. It's so nimble and the engine just pulls like a champ. Definitely not just a bike for beginners.

      I had a 250 cc before my scram400x, and i was having the greatest of time with it, awesome acceleration, nimble and a joy on the trails, then came it's 600 miles service and wow what a different bike it became a little beast!! Getting to the 9000 rpms brings me a smile every time!!

    Even if it's fairly expensive here in Brazil, I'm seriously considering the Speed 400 as a first bike over the 30% cheaper Hunter 350. Lighter weight should make it easier to handle, an engine that will keep up on the highway just fine (I'm heavy, and my city is bizarrely bisected by a major highway), liquid-cooled to handle the constant heat, and most important for me, it's a bike that features a full range of safety features- ABS on both wheels *and* traction control. LED headlight, assisted slipper clutch, inverted fork and an adjustable rear monoshock are a delicious package, too.
    Of course, the fact that it looks gorgeous, both stylish and elegant, also goes a long way.
    Just waiting for a demo model to test drive. Duke 390 offers a similarly feature-packed package, but I don't have a dearlership in town... And it doesn't look anywhere as good.

    Nice, thanks for this Wesley. Great to hear insights from someone of the same height for a change! Particularly interested that you found the Speed 400 to be better than the Scrambler 400X despite the size difference. Interesting stuff.

      Thanks Mark, for me it was all about the handling of the Speed. If I wanted something with a bit more versatility it would be the Scrambler no doubt. I just found the Speed so easy to ride

    Hi Wesley another absolutely super video thanks so much for filming this I’ve been looking at a bike to replace the Tenere 700 I got for my dad as motivation to get through his stage 3b/4 prostate cancer (currently just recovering from an operation in hospital) an it’s the Triumph 400s caught our eye.
    Currently on the modern front I own an 1150gsa which I’m parting with so we can sell our house and downsize to the coast over here in the uk.
    In the past I’ve had an 865 which we both rode, 300 rally, 390adv x2 one mine. A one dads 411 Himmy an a slew of 1200’s vstroms a super bikes an a ex iom tt race bike.
    I think it’s awesome to see some lightweight bikes coming onto the market for experienced riders to a the Triumph addresses a lot of the complaints I had with the other bikes.
    Itl be interesting to see if we end up going for the street scrambler, t100 or one of the 400s in the end it’s great to see some more manageable bikes coming out, if you don’t mind me asking what’s your inseam?
    A keep up the brilliant work really is an excellent channel and it’s great to see Triumph taking notice.

    I love the modern classic design of the Speed 400. I test rode it & am pretty strongly considering getting it as my first bike. I'm waiting for the new model Svartpilen to come into the country though, that feature set at such a low price!

      I have the scrambler 400 and it just fits the style Husqvarna and KTM are quirky and eye catching but they aren't always nice to look

      In India the scram is a lot less expensive than the Himalayan 450.
      Also coming from a Himalayan 411, tubeless tyres are great. If you include all of that there is no other bike with similar value for money.
      And I am loving the performance and refined quality over my 411

    I did try both bikes and for both of them i found the brakes to be a bit weak. In terms of driving, I was more happy with the scrambler even with my short inseam as It just felt more nimble. I am surprised too that you didn't speak about Versys x which has exactly same power and is very strong both on road and on light trails. Before to purchase any of these two bikes, i would have to test again the brakes at higher speed otherwise they look good for the price.

    • @wesleyjames.
      @wesleyjames.  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Oh really, I actually forgot to mention the brakes in the review, I thought they were great. I had a couple moments where I needed to break suddenly and I was really impressed! Maybe my T100 brakes just suck? haha

      @edouardl2 Před 3 měsíci

      @@wesleyjames. Are you sure you are not a bit bias ? By the way, specs on T100 doesn't look impressive about the brakes. They don't seem bad but definitely not top in her class specially in view of the heavy weight.

      @wesleyjames.  Před 3 měsíci

      @@edouardl2 I’ve come from a string of Royal Enfields with bad breaks (my Continental GT was appalling) so my expectations are pretty low. I was happy with the 400s brakes 😎

    • @edouardl2
      @edouardl2 Před 3 měsíci

      @@wesleyjames. Let me make a clarification, I said i would need another drive to test the brakes at higher speed. It felt weak for me but my last bike was a Versys which has good brakes. You know too that these two bikes are Indians made by Bajaj which is a bit worrying. Time will tell about reliability.

    • @MrKajakhaj
      @MrKajakhaj Před 3 měsíci

      The front brake is softer on the 400x than the 400, and I found it a little weak to begin with, but after a few 100s km it got sharper and I now happily use only one finger for braking at times. Maybe I just got used to it ...
      The reviev is spot om BTW, it´s all about having fun when riding these bikes - with style. 2500 km done :-)

      I have the Trident 🔱 660 which is only 189kg wet with Quick Shifter & is light & flickable & fun.Be better for longer rides than 400 & keeps up with the big bikes & with Quick Shifter actually faster than the alot of Harley & Triumph cruisers from mid-top end but slower at bottom end.
      Is a 19kg heavier but is 14hp & 19Nm(53hp 59Nm) & is a LAMS bike but wouldn't recommend as first bike the 400Speed be alot safer & better for a first bike.
      The Trident 🔱 660 is for people who can ride already or rode dirt bikes etc & got experience but it does have rain mode & inexperienced riders could ride it in rain mode till their skill levels increase.
      Speedtwin 900 is 216kg wet & new T100 is 228Kg wet so Trident 🔱 is alot lighter & is right on the limit for power to weight ratio for LAMS bikes.I am thinking about getting a Speedtwin 900/T100 next probably Speedtwin 900 & like the 80Nm of torque.

      @@wesleyjames. No I haven't tried a 1200 Speedtwin & a new one is beyond my budget a second hand one maybe.I know a guy who had one & loved it had it for about 8months done 8000km on it riding everywhere.When HE took it in for service he test rode the Tiger 🐅 900 & traded for it then & there & said it was the most comfy bike he'd ever ridden & loved the Triple.HE also liked to go moto camping & fly fishing 🎣 so Tiger 🐅 was a easy decision for HIM.
      I like the new Green Speedtwin 900 & 80Nm is pretty good & is 12kg lighter than T100 & has 2pot Brembo front brake too.A 1200 would be great but a new 900 with warranty & 0 kms is appealing over a second hand 1200🤔🤔.The new T100 in Green & Silver looks great too.

    Thanks for the great review. If you don't mind me asking, How tall are you? , I'm hearing more and more riders who, like you, point to the speed 400 as the one to go for because of the handling, but Im quite tall ( 1 meter 90) so I always discarded it as an option. Hence my interest.
