I never wanted to mess with purchasing points…until this card. The 4th night free is what sold me. I purchased the 150,000 points for $1500 and received a total of 300,000 points. I’ve only been able to do this once this calendar year (I’ve tried several times). In early 2024, I’ll be purchasing again as soon as they go on sale. Other perks, at least where we stay, is we aren’t charged daily resort fees (which can be up to $60/day), and we don’t have to pay for beach chairs (another savings of up to $30/day). Enjoying your channel.
Thanks! That is what we are planning to do also.
Do you know how to transfer points from one to another account
Wow where did you stay? No resort fee sounds great!
I just called costumer service and they told me buying points doesn’t apply for the 4th free night. I can only get the 4th night when I use the bonus I get from the credit card, not from buying points. How true is this
@@ParthArmarkar do it over the phone. they have fee of $5 per 1k points transfer. not really worth it my advice is if they'll use the points for reservation just book it under your account and add your second guet name on it. in that way you'll add the qualifying night towards your milestone reward
That was great. This has got me so excited about using our new IHG card this coming year. Great info on the 4th night free on redemptions and the point buying strategy. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful!
Your great strategies convinced me to get the IHG credit card. I used your referral link. Mahalo for all the clear information on how to travel more for less money.
Awesome! Thank you, we appreciate it! We've got 72 nights booked in the next 4 months!
I appreciate your info a lot! God bless you guys!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your videos - they are life changing. I love watching and learning from you both. This just makes SO much sense! Thank you Thank you. I'm trying to find your video or info about how you get great deals on airfare too. I can't seem to find it on your Travel or Finance channels. Could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
This hack is god tier and you guys did a great job explaining it! I do want to point out that any IHG credit card gives you 4th night free on points, including the no annual fee Traveler card. The Premier and Premier Business are better cards thanks to the free night and status, but for those who don’t want to pay for a card, it’s an option
You can also utilize the 20% points purchases credit card benefit with this deal. I started doing this a few times with 4 night stays, and it really is a bargain. Even at the high end Intercontinental properties, it’s possible to get them under $100 per night. Great video!
Thanks, agree with you! We got intercontinental Hanoi and Yokohama booked for around $80 a night, not bad, excited to try them out soon.
Thank you for the great info... as I am travelling does IHG issue a digital card as I will not be collecting a physical card from a post box?
Great! The only thing that came to my attention is that your examples are for one guest
It would usually be the same price for 2
Thanks for another great video!! One question on IHG, I know that Hilton and Hyatt do not charge resort fees when booking on points but from what I have read, IHG will still charge resort fees even when booking on points. What has been your experience?
Yes, they do, but we try to offset that by using the points mostly in Asia where there aren't many resort fees.
Hi R&A - love your videos!! I just got an offer from IHG to purchase points with 80% bonus. Should I wait for the 100% bonus?
Great video.
Of course that special for the Fiji property is long gone. But are there ways to search for other similar situations? New property discounted rates? Remodel property discount rates?
The Fiji one only lasted a few weeks. Oddly this is what works in Asia, search " Malaysia" in the app for next week. Then sort by price low to high, scroll to the bottom and it'll list everything without a price as coming soon. Then just check on the individually every few weeks. Once they are listed you'll usually get about 2-3 weeks of great rates before they raise them.
This is very helpful. Thank you!
Do your points booked nights count towards earning perks or is it just rooms booked for cash? And if it does count….does the 4th free night count as well? Thanks guys!
Yes, they all count, which is what makes it great!
@@GroundedLifeFinances This is terrific, can a spouse also apply for the same IHG card for two of them or is it limited to one per household per specific card (I think you mentioned you could do business and normal cards to stack so there is that at least)?
Sounds like a great way of leveraging every penny you can. Unfortunately for the UK, this same card was shut down and no new cards being issued. Looks like IHG and their UK finance partner had a parting of the ways. Doesn't seem likely that replacement coming any tie soon but will certainly keep an eye on situation.
It is a great card
If I was staying for 8 nights, does it have to be booked in 2 separate 4 night bookings or can you do a single 8 night booking and get 2 nights free?
You can stay 8 and get 2 of those free
What do you do about the flight costs some tickets to ASIA are over 2000 Dollars?
The Bali ticket is quite a bit so how do you offset the high costs to make the IHG work?
We take cruises to get there, or book a cheap ticket
Hi guys is it the premier business credit card? That’s the one that seems to be offering the 140,000 sign up bonus
The 4th night free will work with either card.
Does ihg hotels charge resort fees for credit card holders?
Do points expire or do they rollover each year?
They do charge resort fees, which are quite high in the US.
IHG points don’t expire 😃🎉🙌🏻
Can you purchase more than 150k points at one time? Can you also purchase say every three months when offered to get over 150k points?
150k is the most at one time, but during a sale that will get you 300k. We haven't tried doing it twice yet.
Do the unused points rollover to next year or expire ? I stayed at staybridge and really liked it. Do u have any hack for USA stays.
I forget when you booked the 40 nights stay did it automatically raise your status? Or it was only after you hit that 40 night stay? 😊
Thanks for all these tips 👍
Does this require you being in the us or can I apply to it when I’m in Saudi
You can join the IHG program from anywhere.
Cause of work I’m almost at 600k points . 109 nights . Where’s best places to stay in states and out .
can i buy points with my new IHG card and will it count twards my spend
You can buy them, I'm not sure if it counts towards the spend.
Where can i buy the points?
Im still confused how to stay at ihg for a month for $1k?
It's best to wait until the points go on sale, that's how you can do it, but it only happens 4 or 5 times a year.
Didn't see the 140,000 bonus points on sign up, only up to 4 free nights. Did they downgrade the offer?
I'm still seeing the 140,000 points
I can only see it on the business card
@@caroljordan4316 you are correct I'm also now seeing 4 free nights worth 40,000 points each.
Do ihg points have an expiry date (must be used by)?
if your tier level is club yes they do expire after a year. u need to complete atleast 10nights to qualify for elite level and your points won't expire
How can I know when these sales are coming?
We mention them in our newsletter if you sign up for that. The link is in most videos.
@@GroundedLifeFinances Thank youuu. New to your channel. Signing up now.
if you're doing 1 month, then are you getting every 4th night free? So 7 nights free for a 1 month stay? Am I doing the math correctly on that?
Yes, so if you stay 28 nights 7 are free and you redeem points for the other 21. It only works with points and you have to have their premier credit card.
@@GroundedLifeFinances thank you. Yes. I knew that about the card. It’s just that I’m more savvy b with the Hyatt program. I knew 4th night free. I just didn’t realize it repeated over and over for longer stays!! I came across you all because I travel hack and got some free cruises through hotel/casino status marching merry-go-round and I did a search for a cruise video. I think it was for the Virgin cruise we are taking. And came across your channel and love love your content. I also want to retire early. I keep telling my husband there’s no way we can do this US work grind past age 55. But you all are talking about our 50s and 60s and I’m rethinking the 55. Maybe it needs to be 50!!! Love you all. Keep up with this amazing content. This idea is awesome because you don’t have to get a travel hacker as a hubby. This one hack saves a huge amount in travel. I’m currently working on a different SUB and have a to of Hyatt stays paid for on points next year as I want to keep Globalist. But when I want to a longer vacation I’ll come back and use yohr link.
The Wyndham/Vacasa trick might work for you all too. It’s not 4th nignt free. But you could redeem for vacasa, cottages dot com and another European resort. Wait for the business earner card to have an elevated offer. With that card you get a vacas or cottages dot com for only 13,500 points per night. Each night needs to average $350 per night for the vacasa to be eligible. Wyndham also sells their points often at a discount. Oh! And you get Wyndham Diamond with that. That allows you to get Caesars Diamond and you can start the free cruise merry go round that way. Once you start receiving the comps from the cruise lines, submit them to URComped where they have the free virgin cruises. Match to Oceans and you can get a free MSCcruise up to 21 nights. Just pay port tax and tip. For virgin tips are included. It’s just port taxes.
Business card is only one showing 140,000 bonus for sign up when I clicked on the link on your page here. Can you alert us if it returns? We really only travel in US due to husband being disabled. But I still think it would help with hotel stays here in US
Yes, we will! It's one of our favorites, especially if they have a high point offer.
Alerted. Not much time left.
Do nights stayed using points count towards achieving elite status? I thought that only paid nights would count towards getting to the 40 night threshold that you mentioned.
Nights with points count also
