  • My video interview with WOW Women Of Wrestling superhero Tiki Chamorro in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Chamorro, who served in the U.S. Army, is from Guam.
The people from the island of Guam are called Chamorro or Guamanian, which are the indigenous people of Mariana Islands. After high school, she made the decision to enlist in the United States Army. Her village is also known for having one of the highest military enlistment rates.
At 18-years-old, Chamorro was deployed to Afghanistan and fought during Operation Enduring Freedom. When she returned from my deployment, she learned to cope with PTSD. Her AAPI heritage reminds her of the islander fire and warrior spirit that always guides her, even on dark days.
It took a while, but once Chamorro decided to deal with PTSD, she received the help she needed to liver her life fully with her husband and family.
A rugby player and actress, Chamorrow answered an ad to try out for WOW Women Of Wrestling. WOW has given her the strength of being part of a company that empowers women from every walk of life, allowing her to pave the way for her other fellow Islanders.
WOW -- under the leadership of GLOW creator/founder David McLane and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss -- is seen weekly on TV nationally. In South Florida, WOW is broadcast at 11 p.m. on My33 TV. WOW TV combines pro wrestling matches with real-life personal stories of these talented and inspiring WOW superheroes.
