FOUR TRAIN FRENZY: Synchronized Steam Action With Archive Sound!

- A busy moment at Neville Grove with custom weathered Thompson B1, Raven Q6 and two Gresley B17's that star in this fast paced video - each fully sychronised with archive sound.
The LNER favourites are seen on the high and low level lines and put to work on Parcels, Heavy Goods and Express trains. Turn up the volume to maximum and expect plenty of chimney music, clanking and whistles.
All models are Hornby and each were weathered to a bespoke requirement with input from my customers. The B1 in particular was inspired by, and took reference from a photograph of classmate Steinbock that had a distinctive pattern of staining to the smoke box and from the wash out plugs & safety valves which were complimented by patchy areas of polished paintwork.
The excellent sound recordings were originally made by Peter Handford in the 1950's - 60's. They have been digitally remastered and are currently available through Old Thundridge Records. The audio has been supplemented with my own recordings of preserved B1's 61264 and 61306 at work on the mainline.
Very nice update today .With load's of detail
Thank you, the scenic detail is still very much a work in progress but it will get there one day 😅
@@NEVILLEGROVE Looking good keep going.
@@medwaymodelrailway7129 Will do. I actually hope to get a little done this weekend - the first time I’ve managed to work on the actual layout for months!
@@NEVILLEGROVE Great news
One of the best model railroad photographers ever. From an impressed American modeler.
Thank you very much that’s quite a comment! I feel honoured to have you watching in the US sir - thanks 👍👍
Dear god… though not a fan of 2-rail or British rail, this is jaw droopingly exquisite! And yes, great video work; a necessity for this level of detail.
I had to go back and edit; stunning videography… a true artist!
Thanks Ken and thanks very much for watching - I’m very grateful that you did - especially if it’s not your preferred choice! I hope to tempt you back to see another video one day…
First time subscriber what a great layout thanks for sharing
Hi Dylan, thanks for watching and welcome aboard! Plenty more videos in the pipeline...
Sound just stumbled across your channel going have a binge watch later
WOW! (Nothing else to add!)
Glad you like it! 👍👍👍
What a cracking layout and realism. Very well done.
Thanks Peter, much appreciated 👍
Wonderful stuff 👍
Thanks, and thanks for watching 👍
I love how you giving these great models a paintwork and the sound effects you used in this video, this is why subscribed to you :)
Beautiful layout, beautifully shot.....very lifelike and a credit to you....well done!
Thank you Fraser, I really appreciate your comment 👍
That was absolutely the best model railway video I've ever had the pleasure of watching. At last someone with some imagination thinking out of the box, makes all other "standard view" vids boring, plus your modelling is so lifelike. Great work, I take my grease cap off to you😊
Haha thanks for such an amazing comment Bob! Im glad you enjoyed, I do have some fun when filming, and the archive sound really brings it to life for me which is very satisfying at the editing stage. My passion for all things railways springs from the sound - especially a hard working locomotive.
Wery nice
Thanks, glad you enjoyed 👍
WOW it looks so real awesome!
I like your videos it's very cool and so real.
Very kind, thanks a lot 👍
Let's see more awesome videos.
Plenty more to come - I just need the time to edit them!
I can only think of one word “AMAZING”
All I can say is THANKS! 👍👍
Oh ,so,so,fine, those close ups are superb
Thank you very much! The close ups are good fun to try and capture, I must look ridiculous doing so though!
Stunning weathering, thanks for sharing.
Awesome thank you Ron, and thanks very much for watching!
Superb, one of the best model railway videos on U Tube 👍🤗
Thank you very much indeed! 👍👍
So realistic...this took a ,lot of time and patience with the scenery which captures the age perfectly....
Thank you David, yes a long time getting here as I only had 1 evening a week for the majority of the build, and a lot of the urban infrastructure had to be scratch built which takes time. As with many model railways this is nowhere near finished…
this is the best model railway video I have ever seen. its not just the sound its the panning camera shots that put you right in the action. the overall effect is brilliant realism.
Hi Robert! Wow what a nice comment to receive thank you very much - very high praise indeed! I’m glad you enjoyed, plenty more videos to come so please do subscribe if you haven’t already! Thanks for watching 👍
Great video , specially with the close up of the wheels with the sound , also you have a great layout,
Thanks for watching and for all the great comments! 👍👍👍
Wow!.
Some work went into this..fantastic production..
Thanks very much, yeah quite a bit of organisation and patience was required but I enjoyed making it!
Lovely photography and camera angles.
Probably the best running session videos on CZcams. The synchronisation between the sounds and the footage is flawless. The 4 train scene must've been challenging! Cheers, John.
Thank you for the extremely high praise! The videos are only short but I’m glad you enjoy them. Yes, not easy at all, especially as the lower level is mostly in tunnels so it’s difficult to tell where the trains are down there!
@@NEVILLEGROVE j
What a fantastic video. Brilliant layout.
Cheers Charlotte! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
You set the bar high, well done.
Many thanks, much appreciated 👍👍👍
Best one I have ever seen. And well filmed
Gee thanks Andy! Glad you enjoyed 👍
Guys camera skills are point! Definitely makes for a more interesting and realistic watch!
Thanks man! It’s good fun to shoot too 👍
@@NEVILLEGROVE Keep up the good work!
I know nothing of trains or model trains. But this was beautiful!
Thanks very much Hans, I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍
Pretty good photography/filming.
Terrific railway and filming, not easy with models. Cheers.
Thanks Steve - quite right, much perseverance is required, it helps that this is a tail chaser so I get another go if it doesn’t work out the first time!
Very nice video old is gold
Cheers Desh, glad you enjoyed 👍
Love the weathering, much more realistic
Thanks very much! It does make a huge difference to the finish and also brings out the wealth of detail in modern models.
This kind of shooting really sorts the men from the boys in the permanent way department, excellent allignment, rock slid ballasting and, if I'm not mistaken, a very nice super-elevation, first class.
Thanks David for the glowing comment! Much to do yet but it’s getting there. Yes there is some elevation which along with gentle transitions into the curves which I think helps the overall effect. Thanks for watching 👍
@@NEVILLEGROVE I missed the transition curves, now that's impressive.
@@David-ci1vn Cool thanks! I actually used CAD software which makes transition curves a relatively straight forward process.
Very imaginative filming , really great job ! Thanks.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic, great close up footage
Thanks - yeah the wheels and valve gear on current RTR models are great to watch in motion.
Just found this video on CZcams. Fantastic work, well done. New subscriber. Roy.
Hi Roy - glad you like the video, and thanks for subscribing, there’s plenty more videos to come 👍
Wow this camera work is astounding

Nooice mate love the quality and the steam engines I have a goal to do a oo gauge railway like this have a great week and keep it up
Thanks very much and good luck with your layout.
Fantastic, looks so real
Awesome thanks for watching 👍
Brilliant video, using different angles and perspectives with multiple trains really sets this video apart from other running sessions. You’ve set the benchmark incredibly high. Ultimately just awesome to watch!
Haha thanks Tom, again you're too kind!
Unbelievably realistic!
Thank you very much Richard, I appreciate you watching and the comment 👍
Loving the tunnel shots, very cool. Hollywood watch out!
Cool aye? Thanks Monkey Moo! 😎
great camera work :) chasing those trains
Thank you - it’s the most exercise I get these days! 😅
Hi. I've just arrived here. Why didn't I find this before? What have I been missing? There is something really compelling and satisfying about watching all the external valve gear in motion. I half expect it to become all tangled up at any moment! Wonderful quality and camera angles. I'll be back!
Brilliant I’m glad to have you aboard! The channel is only 6 months old so you haven’t missed that much, but do check out my previous videos, there may be some more of interest hopefully.
Another video masterpiece of the wonderful city of Neville Grove. I am always amazed by the quality of your weathering work, the decor, all the camera movements and these different iconic steam engines sounds. One word: BRAVO!
Thank you my man! Very generous praise as ever but gratefully received 👍
Nostalgic to listen & see the steam engine

Great stuff!! Love your layout! 👍
Hi Ray, again, thanks for watching and for the kind words 👍
Amazing
Cheers! 👍
Wonderfully filmed featuring one of my favourite Eastern locomotives, the B17.
They are nice machines - hopefully we’ll get to see a real one running one day. Thank you btw 👍
Superb quality filming as always .With a perfect sync between the shots and music on a beautiful layout. Just wow.
Thanks to my Dad, sound has always been a crucial part of my enthusiasm for railways. Many hours have been spent leaning out of the front window / linesiding so unless I try and sync it as best as possible with the motion it just doesn’t look right. You could say It’s an affliction!
I can imagine you listen to a piece of music eyes closed and just imagine what is happening and what type of locomotive would make those sounds. My favourite scenes are the close ups with the wheels at speed and then with a gentle pan out.
@@amp9930 Indeed I have spent many hours listening to Peter Handford records and it all started off with my Dad when I was a nipper. We’d have them at full volume and drive mum / possibly the neighbours crazy as we lived in a terrace house with thin walls. Some tracks are so evocative, and the sleeve notes are very informative / descriptive so it is easy for the mind to paint a vivid picture whether it be in the wilds of the Waverley Route or at the side of the Lickey Incline.
@@amp9930 I’ll bear that in mind regarding the close up shots that pull away - thanks for the feedback 👍
@@NEVILLEGROVE - That was just one shot that I loved particularly. It's the variety and combination of shots combined with excellent editing that make the magic. You have balanced all these factors perfectly. So what I mean to say is- it's the whole finished project that works so well not just one element. Looking forward to future episodes.
Fantastic work, I really enjoy watching these videos. Keep it up!
Brilliant! I’m glad you enjoy - plenty more videos to come! 👍👍
Whow! Brilliant filming, the close up shots running along side the engines are just stunning, you really feel that your part of the film, subscribed!

Hi Paul! Thanks for watching and yes you would know! Much doesn’t make the final edit 😬
THIS IS LIKE THOMAS AND FRIENDS also nice vid keep up the good work
Just realised. In my spotting days Stembok brought a football special into Derby Midland from Scunthorpe.
So you actually saw it yourself? I assume B1’s were relatively rare at Derby?
Wonderful video, the best yet, I think. Keep them coming, please!

@@NEVILLEGROVE Thank you Neville hope you take a look at my channel
@@dennismodelrailway7187 yes just just checked out and given a thumbs up! Good work with the tunnel entrance it reminds me of the line out of Bristol Docks to where it runs under the road then parallel with the Avon.
That’s simply brilliant, you’ve set the goal posts higher than us mere mortals can only dream of.
😂 Thanks very much, but I don’t know about that. I genuinely believe we can all do anything in this hobby if we are determined enough. Also don’t look too closely - none of the layout is finished yet!
Awesome! 👋
Thanks and thank you for watching! 👍👍👍
Magnificent.
Thanks Michael, glad you enjoyed the show 👍
Wow! Top class, exciting model steam action. So much like real action from the early sixties.
That’s great to hear - exactly what I’m aiming for with the layout and sounds. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Very nice Steve! My personal favourite was the Q6 looked quite amazing.
Thank you Ross. The Q6 is actually mine, whilst the others are all very welcome visitors 👌👌👌
Amazing videos of such lovely locos and stock. Always a pleasure to watch, your videos, Steve!
Cheers Dibs! Thanks for watching again, and I’m glad you enjoyed 👍
thank you for this beautiful video , very intersting with beautiful landscapes
No thank you Thierry for the generous comments and many thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed. 👍
The weathering on the B1 is so typical of B.R. in the early 1960's. I particularly liked the oily rag finish on the B17 and how you changed the loco lights from Class C to Class B to suit the rollingstock being hauled . A nice touch showing the driver working a lefthand driven loco. Looking forward to many more videos . Well done Steve.
Hi Louis, many thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you approve of the weathering!
Congratulations! This is a display of the great scenery and trains that the UK has had, which you keep still untouched in your model layout. Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Plenty more to come 👍
I bloody love these videos, entertaining, so much inspiration and relaxing all in one. Can't wait to drop my locos into you 👍👍👍
Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoy the videos. Working on your locos one day will be a pleasure 👍👍👍
A Beautiful vintage designs. I realised that i am back in 1900s.
Thank you! The sounds really help to bring footage of these superb Hornby models to life.
My Pleasure.😌 Hats off to you.
Well, I couldn’t come within a mile of the modelling and videography skills here. Simply superb! Thank you.

Smokeless steam engines
Just like the real thing on a hot summers day 😉
Excellent. Love the super elevation on the viaduct.
Thanks John I’m glad you enjoyed. Yes, it’s amazing what difference the super elevation can make, well worth doing on most layouts I’d say.
Well, that was definitely worth watching. What a great bit of filming and editing. I have subscribed.
