Like A Version is a segment on Australian radio station triple j. Every week a musician or band comes into the studio to play one of their own songs and cover a song they love.

Sam Rogers I know it hasnt been exactly 15 years, but you have Lisa Mitchell, Matt Corby, Owl eyes who have all had reasonable success.
I was referring to winners but the names you mentioned only found success after they re-invented themselves and Triple J gave them a shot. Guy Sebastian has managed to stay popular in commercial music while everyone else came and went. I won't hold my breath on that Bardot-Guy Sebastian collab though.

I swear I have watched this 100 times, take away the commercial glitz and big production. A man sits in a studio armed with nothing but a piano and his voice... and reduces all of his critics to dust. The biggest credibility restoring performance ever. Thankyou guys

Agreed, I think people didn't like a guy with a fro winning, over the guy that reminded people of the barfly. That being said, don't know if you or any others remember World Idol (I forget it's actual name), but Guy Sebastian competed in a world title of the 'Idol' singing saga, and the dude didn't make top 3, although being amongst talented musos; he was easily top 3, if not the best singer there. And I'm not even being biased either.
The title of the show should have been changed to Karaoke Idol, since the judges didn't want a singer with a unique voice; but wanted the singer to merely mirror the original songs, rather than make it their own. Honestly, was watching the show in disbelief like wtf is this dumb competition? Do they want robots or people?
It's like listening to the studio version of 'Heartbeats' by 'The Knife', which is great as it ticks all the radio / studio head boxes, whilst the live version is absolutely breathtaking and powerful - it's like Michael Jordan's hangtime dunk where he flies from the free throw line and time goes slow whilst you're in awe like omgfckmeded. Do you wanna hear what the guys in the studio say is mickymouse, or the version the artistic expressive amazing musicians wanted to produce? Nothing wrong with karaoke, but Guy making a song his own is another level.

I hope this spot makes them finally consider putting this masterpiece on spotify. I think we deserve it after 7 years!!

An occasional dalliance with jazz or rnb or a cover like this is fantastic, but I would love him to partner with someone like Mountains in the Sky or Pretty Lights or PVT or Gotye and put out a whole album of indie electro vocal goodness. His voice is perfect for that. But hey, you've got to do what you love.

I've never intentionally listened to Guy Sebastian's music before, however I'm aware he can sing. But holy crap!! That kid has skills. I hate to say it but this is better than the original. It suits a male voice.

88rowey yeah but she didn't win it and was never really promoted off the back of it, same with Matt Corby. Guy though was the first and arguably the most successful pop star to come out of Australian Idol

Vera Blue was on The Voice, Matt Corby Idol, Brooke (Owl Eyes) Idol, Lisa Mitchell Idol, those 4 are great, but Guy sounds the same every song.

I haven't listened to this for over a year. It is still is the best thing that ever happened to my ears.
I've always really liked guys voice but a fair bit of his pop stuff just doesn't move me. However, this is just top shelf vocals. Those runs are so crisp and clear. Watch Guy's face and body, he inhabits that melody. Man. So, so good. His acoustic version of Battle Scars is off it's nut, too. Props to you, guy. I'm an old fella (55) and I listen to this a LOT.

Australian Homegrown talent - Loved this collaboration between Paces and Guy Sebastian. Great to see that Triple J is seeing the light about Guy Sebastian. It always seemed weird that he has not on their Australian content play list. His musicality and THAT VOICE are something that Aussies should be proud of!

There are many references to how Guy should go indie/alternative, stop playing pop, do something edgier and JJJ might play it, etc. Only a few months ago, he released 'Candle' - possibly my favourite Guy song (beating 'Linger' by a whisker). It was something different for him to release as a single. He said he was 'just throwing it out there and see what happens'. Well, commercial radio pretty much ignored it, JJJ as usual ignored him. What's a guy to do?
