Börje Salming will fly to Toronto shortly. He is said to have received the go-ahead from the doctors - despite the fact that the trip entails great stress and risks - and should have come to the conclusion together with his family that the trip should be made.
in Toronto, a tribute is planned for Salming, who is one of the classic club's greatest players of all time.

In Sweden he is regarded as a pioneer, as someone who paved the way for other European hockey players to enter the NHL. Salming took a fair amount of beatings and I'm sure he wasn't all too happy about it at all times, but he never let that have too much of an impact on his game. As a Swede and as a Leafs fan, I am most proud of this man. Börje was not only an absolutely incredible player but he is also a warm and sincere person, someone to look up to. För alla svensktalande där ute: lyssna på avsnittet av Glenn Hyséns podcast "Göttänna" där han har Salming som gäst. Det är guld.

I come from the little town in Sweden where he was discovered, Gävle with the team called Brynäs IF where he was picked up from. Myself i’m only 16 but my dad and his dad have many times talked avout how good of a player Börje was. I have met Börje at more then one occation since my dads company is a main sponsor for the team and since he’s a huge hockeyfan. Since i’m a even bigger hockeyfan i get to go to alö theese sponsor dinners and events and run around with an all access card during games and get into the lockerrooms and so on. So i have met Börje a couple of times and he’s a great and funny guy. When i was little i was scared of him because he’s a big guy and with all those scars he looks a bit scary to a little child. But he’s really nice and humble. I know several good hockeyplayers that’s been raised with this team, like Nicklas Bäckström, Jacob Silfverberg, Jacob Markström and so on. This makes me feel proud of my little town and team. How a town with just around 100 thousand people living int the whole ”county” i guess you could call it. It’s a really big county so it’s a pretty good job to have a team that has won this many championships and produced this many great hockeyplayers, it makes me proud.

Jack Campbell, you have already played your best. Please don't blame yourself too hard. However, the Leafs as an organization seem to have at least one major problem. From a business perspective they always seem to profit a lot regardless of how well the team performs. Therefore they might not be afraid of letting the fans down. Another issue is maybe playing in Toronto has too much pressure affecting the team negatively? Does anyone agree or disagree on the aforementioned issues?

Not entirely true. Maybe for people that are teenagers or in their early 20's, but any hockey fan in Sweden in the age of 30 or older holds him in very high regard as one of the biggest legends in swedish hockey history.

Next time a Millenial tells you today's players are better, ask them if Pettersson could play against the Flyers in the 1970s, get high sticked in the mouth, punched in the head, run into the boards and then go out the next night and try to score goals as if nothing happened. Oh, and give McDavid a stick and a pair of skates from the 1970s and see if he can skate faster and better than Bobby Orr after 9 knee surgeries.

I can only buy kit Kat bars, or some kind of chocolate at the old Maple Leaf Gardens! Visiting Boris home didn't help.me to be able to buy food!

Hors manure he should have easily won the norris.

The only reason I believe Borje never won a norris was because of the NHL’s racist views of european players during the 70’s and 80’s. If he was playing today he would be the best defenseman ever n the NHL.
