There's been many a time I've even started completely over... covering an old painting in its entirety. With great results too because I love the layers.

I would like to know if your piece was vernished before ? Was it?

It was. I should have sanded it a bit, because some of the paint was repelling. It didn't sand because it was a matte sealer. So now I know for next time. But I did seal this after I was finished and all is good!
