The famous overhead tank scene where Veeru threatens Mausi with suicide and Jai attempts at making a proposal of marriage was drawn from a real-life incident. The train robbery sequence took about 20 days to film on the Mumbai-Pune line, near Panvel. Sharman Joshi's father starred in the film as one of Sanjeev Kumar' s sons.
The film was shot extensively in Ramnagaram near Bangalore, India. There are huge rocks of granite in this town which formed the backdrop of Gabbar Singh's hideout. As a mark of respect, the people of Ramnagaram renamed a hamlet in the town as Sippynagar after the director of the movie, Ramesh Sippy. Sachin received a refrigerator as remuneration for his acting.
Actor Mushtaq Merchant plays two roles in the film. The first role is as the train driver in famous train scene. The second role is when Jai Veeru steal a Parsi mans motorcycle. He plays the Parsi man. Jai and Veeru were named after Salim Khan's college friends, Veerandar Singh Bias, son of a jagirdar at Khajrana Kothi, Indore and Jai Singh Rao Kalevar, a Pindari warrior and vegetable farmer. Both have passed away.

Actor 'Amjad Khan' was almost dropped from the project because scriptwriter 'Javed Akhtar' found his voice too weak for Gabbar Singh's role. The scene of killing of Thakur's family by Gabbar is an adaptation of the killing of McBain family by Frank in Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West. This was the first film in the history of Indian cinema to celebrate a silver-jubilee (25-week) initial release at over 100 theatres across India.
Sholay, despite being a huge hit, received only one Filmfare award (best editing: MS Shinde...The awards for the best film, the best dialogues, the best direction and others went to Deewar. Initially, 'Dharmendra' was keen to play the role of Thakur Baldev Singh. He eventually relented when the director informed him that Sanjeev Kumar would play Veeru if that happened, and would get the heroine. Sanjeev Kumar had just then proposed marriage to Hema Malini. Dharmendra was in love with her and quickly went back to the role of Veeru.

पुरानी यांदे " आज ताजा " हुई! ईस फिल्म को मैंने २५ बार देखी थी सिनेमाघर जा कर! तब मैं भी एक काॅलेज स्टुडंट था १९७५ मे ! , और १९७९ जुुलााई मे जब मैं गोदरेज सोप्स प्रायव्हेट लिमिटेड की तरफ से सेल्समन बतौर, मुंबई से भावनगर की फ्लाइट से जा रहा था तब मेरे सहप्रवासी ( बगल की सिट पर " हेमामालीनी और धर्मेंद्र ही थे! ) And both were very nice 👌 with 👍 Me .

Sholay film Suru se akhir tak muzubani talent
सन् 1975 मे शोले रिलीस् हुई। उस समय मै केवल 6 साल का था। आज भी जयपूर मे राजमन्दिर टाकीज मे शोले का शो देख,कोक्का कोला ,कागज के एक स्ट्रा से पिया ,याद है।👌🤸♂️🥰💞

एक बात और शोले का नाटक खेला जाना। मैं उस समय में कक्षा 10 में था तब मैंने पहले शोले के नाटक में जया भादुड़ी के पति का रोल किया। दूसरी बार गांव वाले का। जो गब्बर की चिट्ठी पड़ता था। उसके। बाद साम्बा का और अंत में जय अमिताभ बच्चन का। फिर पब्लिक की डिमांड पर इस फ़िल्म का नाटक खेलना बन्द कर दिया।

Buddy, a correction. Dharmendra & Hema were romancing around that time & Hema had rejected Sanjeev's offer for marriage. Hema was offered role as he was also in the movie but she didn't want any contact with Sanjeev. She offered to act in this movie with this condition that she won't have any solo scene with Sanjeev. One can see in the whole movie that there is no shot where both of them were together alone.
jayasree talpade would have been a bad choice. helen has done a great job.

Sir Vinod Khanna as hero or villain of Sholay would have made the film 20 times bigger than it has become,it would have surpassed the popularity of the Hollywood all time super hit ‘Gone with the wind’ whose popularity is yet to be broken, 83 years on.
You are right. Vinod Khanna played Daaku Gajjar Singh in " Mera Gaaon Mera Desh". He could have done justice to the role of Gabbar Singh whose name was inspired from Gajjar Singh of "Mera Gaaon Mera Desh". In fact, film critics of thise days mentioned the fact that Gabbar Singh of Sholay paled in comparison to Gajjar Singh of "Mera Gaaon Mera Desh". Of course, the rest is history. 😊
Amitabh was lucky
Amjad broke the typical dacoit style. In most of the older movies where sunil duttji and vinodh khanna played played hero turned dacoit roles. Where as a had played out and out villain role.
Sorry to say sir gone with the wind movie cannot be surpassed ever for its grandness n it's heroine vivien was a Goan Indian if u may know who was then selected by hero Clark gable himself out of thousands so v indians should be proud of her forever

When you are producing 2 million movie per day ? How can you? With some name change, some song, some dance and some background.
