Victoza Full Review - Tutorial, Side Effects

- In this video, PA David covers everything about the Type 2 Diabetes medication Victoza! We go into how the medication works, the doses, common side effects, and how to use the injector device. I also discuss how to reduce side effects and my own personal opinions on where Victoza fits into the management of Type 2 Diabetes and the type of patients for whom it's most appropriate. Victoza falls into the same medication category as other commonly used Type 2 Diabetes medications such as Ozempic and Trulicity.
I started Victoza on 8/25/22 and have lost 14.5 lbs in less than a month. My hunger decreased by 90%. Some days I have zero hunger. I drink lots of water and some electrolytes to stay hydrated. I eat less than half of what I used to eat. Most days I have just one meal. However I've made it routine to eat some protein before bed. My fasting gl used to be around 130-155 and now it's 80-95. Success! I'm hoping to lose another 40 lbs and feel this medication is going to greatly contribute to my loss. I wish I had been given this medication years ago!!!
Veronica, what was your dose ?
I just got this prescribed today. I'm hoping it works for me like it did for you. I need a little boost.
Did you stop having a appetite right away or it took a few days/week to kick in? Today is my second day of taking. I hoping I can lose some weight.
Hi, Veronica which doze did you start with?
hi, what is your dosage??
Just hit my 3 month mark today and my A1C dropped from 7.4 to 6.0, and I’m down about 25lbs! I’m going up to 1.8 and hope to drop another 25lbs and be under 5.0 for my next dr visit in 3 months. Good luck everyone
great share do u have any symptoms
I am on victoza and was worried about the self injection. A friend shared something he discovered with me and it works wonderful. Just drag the needle slowly across the ready site of the injection until you don't feel the needle tip touching the skin then insert the needle it is painless. Hope it works for you as well. Remember only the sweet ones are diabetic.
I was scared to death to poke myself lol and then I said "Just do it" and I did and I felt so stupid because I did not feel ANYTHING. LOL I would think dragging a needle along the skin would be more painful and hesitant the to "Just Do It" I promise, I felt nothing and had to wonder if the needle was actually in which of course it was LOL
@@AzulBlueQueen1944 same
@@AzulBlueQueen1944same here. But the victoza infection isn’t anything compared to IM self injection of blood clotting agents. Those went in my thighs. It’s been so long since I’ve had to inject anything. The “just do it” method really worked better. I tried to run the needle across the top of my skin. BUT it scratched me due to the tiny needle being so dang sharp. So the “just do it” method, is where I’ve been too. I don’t even feel it.
I just got sent home with victoza with no info at all and was trying to use as directed without success. I thankfully found your video and found out they didn't give me the needles. thank you for making a very stressful time much easier.
I'm a pharmacy student and I am so glad I found this video! This will help me provide effective counseling to my patients. Subscribed for more!
I am just starting Victoza and this video was very helpful to me. I actually administered my first dose watching this video. Thank you.😊
I call this my “Magic Pen”. I started Victoza about a month ago. I love it. My blood sugars are so much better, my appetite has decreased so much. So far I’ve lost 8 pounds. I’m so excited. 😄
I realize I'm pretty randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to watch new series online ?
@Hayden Harley lately I have been using FlixZone. You can find it by googling =)
@Hayden Harley Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Rory Bo Yup, I've been watching on flixzone for since april myself :)
@Rory Bo thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!!
Thank you. My pharmacist was no help. I learned how to do this from you. I just did my first ever injection, with confidence, thanks...
With the help and guidance offered in this video, I am starting over today. After using the pen for 8 days, and not noticing a difference, I watched this video and realized I wasn’t even injecting the meds 🤦🏻♀️ I was only clicking to the first hash on the pen-the “test” line! Thank you so much for publishing this informative video; you’re a lifesaver!
My doc is putting me on this with a 3 month test period on the first doze level. Then we will increase. I am not sure 8 days is enough time to get any benefit from this med. I have been on it for 11 days now and I am not going to check for results until I am on it for at least a month. It's a good medicine but it's not a rapid miracle. I hope you give it another go for a lot longer and then record your results.
Omg! I just did that lol!!! I saw the video & was like…whoops!
I did the same.
I’m glad you’re doing it right now but I don’t know what you expected to see in 8 days anyways.
Same experience as a new for me.. now after that 0.3 for 3 weeks 😃 😊 😀.. I did 0.6 now I did.. its help to reduce my blood glucose..
Almost one week in, skipped the initial gradual injection recommendation and went full on with the 1.8. Sugars have been in the low 130's which I haven't seen in months! This medication has surely reduced my numbers and I can feel the body getting back to normal. Injection is painless in my blubber! Thanks for the video, it was a great source or information.
Loved the video as well but I cant seem to find a video or any info online whether or not Victoza can help with on going weight loss. It says you can loose 6-12lbs but is that It? Do you happen to know if weight loss continues after loosing 6-12lbs?
@@AzulBlueQueen1944 yes you can! Exercise and eating good food when you don’t feel nauseous or have a loss of appetite….will help you lose more weight!!
Ozempic was brutal and had to stop. Started Victoza today..wish me luck!! (For type 2 diabetes not weight loss)
I would love an update on how Victoza is working out for you if you don’t mind sharing! I am currently experiencing very awful side effects from Victoza, and am considering changing. But I love how effective it is with controlling my blood sugar. I’m hoping I am able to tolerate a similar medication that works just as well. 😢
How did it go?
@Gkw0624 what were your side effects and have you tried any of the others?
I just started victoza today just wanted too say thank you this has taken some of the anxiety out of the new medication.
I'm really glad it helped. Hope everything goes well.
how’s it going? i might be taking it soon and i’m kind of nervous because i never had to take a shot everyday :/
I had weightloss surgery 2 months ago and my doctor took me off all my meds then but up until then it was working great for me you barely feel the needle if at all once you learn how to use it correctly.

Just rounding up my first week and I'm loving it! Felt a very mild nausea the first 2 days, but that was it. Noticed immediately a decrease in appetite and blood sugar numbers. No notice in weight loss...yet! Dose increasing in 2nd week. Video was very informative! I'll keep the 10 clicks in mind! Thanks!
Hi any update with being on the medication?
This will be my first time trying Victoza. I’m just scary about the product and how to use it. Thank you for sharing this video. I did learn a lot.
Took it for years without side effects. Had to stop due to developing EPI.
Thank you for the tutorial ! I just administered my first shot and I didn't even feel it ! I have a severe needle phobia , but that didn't play into this at all ! After o watched the video I did it just that fast! Thank you so much for the help I needed ! 💗 🎉
My doctor just started me on Victoza.
I am so glad I found this video. Answered all of my questions. Thanks.
Just started mine today. Here we go!,no pain, havent really felt any sides effects yet. We will see. I have heart disease and my cardiologist sent me to the weight clinic and I was put on Victoza. Im hoping there aren't any problems. Im currently at 205. I am looking forward to my gut fat after menopause to diminish.
I was just prescribed this medication and was apprehensive of the side effects. After watching I'm more inclined to give it a try. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Best of luck!!
Was just offered this medication, so I thank you much for taking the time to explain so many aspects of it. Even when I get pharmacy info, I always like to check with multiple sources
Good luck with your victoza. It's a lot less complicated and scary than it first appears. In my experince, you get less nausea if you take your injection when your tummy is done processing for the day so a couple hours after dinner or just before bed ended my nausea. If you experience any, you might consider injecting toward the end of the day to see if it makes a difference.
I just started Victoza today for weight loss, this eased my anxiety so much! Thank you!
I went to pharmacy and asked
About ozempic they prefer me victoza for weightloss ,best of luck to u
Hi, I start this med tomorrow for weight loss and to help my A1c. Have you seen good results yet?
Hiii I'm starting the drug soon. Any updates?
I started today Jan 12 2024 and this is what my insurance approved of I tried to get Ozempic (not approved )and wengovi (was always out of stock) thankxx for this very informative video I was definitely iffy on trying it because I thought it was insulin and I wanted to know What those effects would do to someone who does not have diabetes
Hi I have a question? Did you lose any weight since you been on Victoza. I started mine on May of 2024. And was curious if it’s working for you with losing weight.
@@katrinagarvin3841 honestly I stopped taking it I was getting nauseous I don't know if it's the other meds I'm on or the mix between the two but I couldn't eat for like a week
I’m sorry to hear that. I have not had any complications since I’ve been on it. I’m taking 1.2 as of now. Was you able to get on anything else?
@@katrinagarvin3841 No and I really didn't try honestly I have a lot of different medical conditions so trying to tackle them one at a time
Well hopefully things get better for you,and you eventually find something that works for you.
I am currently on my third pen of Victoza with a 1.2 dose. I have lost 18 lbs. and feel ten years - no twenty years younger. A variety of symptoms that type II diabetes presents over a period of years, have disappeared. The biggest benefit to me is that I now sleep 7 - 8 hours a night and before I was lucky to get 3 or 4 hours. I am interested in the once a week option. What is the name of this medication so I may talk to my family doctor? Many thanks for an informative CZcams that was also entertaining.
The once a week is called Ozempic and Trulicity is twice a month.
@@karentrue991 I take trulicity 3mg once a week.
How long have you been on 0.6. My doc told me I need to be on 0.6 for a month!?
@@vitavi2800 yes, I was on 0.6 for a month.

I was just prescribed Victoza today. Thank you for this comprehensive and easy to understand video.
Results?
@@luda1983luda83 I was on it for several months and lost about 16 lbs. After a few months the side effects wore off and I regained my normal appetite. I've been able to keep the weight off successfully, give or take 1 or 2 lbs. I was forced to switch to Ozempic due to insurance issues, which seems to have more side effects. Weight loss isn't one of them, though.
Thank you for this. I just did my first dose and I'm TERRIFIED of needles. No pain but being prepared really helped the nerves.
Me too lol, not very used to needles and I fear watching them, I did it myself today (first dose), and got very surprised that I didn't felt anything, it's just about nerves 😂

Hiii I'm starting the drug soon. Any updates?
I was on Victoza for year for my type 2 diabetes. But my copay went up to $800.00 for 3 months supply. This was because it was started being prescribed as weight loss drug.
I very nearly skipped the majority of this video and was going to just hit the "how to use" section. But I watched the entire thing and am so glad I did! Great tips, thanks for sharing
I was on Ozempic till I couldn't find it in any pharmacy so my doctor put me on Trulicity but it didn't lower my sugar so today my doctor prescribed Victoza. I start tomorrow taking it. I hope Victoza works for me.. Great video... Thanks 😊
How is victoza working for you?
@@jackietinga5904 I check my suger each morning and with Victoza its around 150. While I was on Ozempic it was 120. The only problem I have with Victoza is the cost. My insurance pays the majority of the cost but I have to pay $125 a month. Once Ozempic is regularly available I'm getting back on it - it costed me $25 a month. I'm taking the lowest dose of Victoza and I haven't lost any weight..... Yet
You have a really engaging delivery style. I want to be your patient!
My doctor just started me on victoza and I'm so glad I seen this video , looking forward to a great resort ,I drop about 60 lb on my own and hoping to drop about 25 more, but all in all my A1C to drop to At least 5.0 Right now I'm 6.1
Subscribed! My AIC was borderline high and I wanted to lose some weight. I have lupus and exercise is hard for me. I’m excited to get started today!
I'm on my 3rd wk of Victoza, so far have lost nothing:(. The 1st wk started with 0.6, and now on 1.8 I've experienced nausea but only if I accidentally overeat, (it's hard to get rid of old habits) but even with a small meal I feel very full & can feel it up to my throat want to get rid of and throw up, so that keeps me inline to not overeat. Unfortunately still get sugar cravings but don't do as much, and I hope as weeks go by I can give a great and better testimony:) I found out if I inject at night my sugar cravings are worst the next day and even hungrier, so on my 3rd wk I started injecting in the morning even though I do get the nausea etc when I eat....but that's ok it definitely makes think twice of not grabbing extra food and feel worst later. Good luck to everyone:)
Isn't Victoza prescribed for glucose reduction and not weight loss?? That's why I can't get Ozempic! Pharmaceutical companies are prescribing it for weight loos even though the greater benefit is A1c reduction! There are plenty of other weight loss plans out there.
@@toddharkness153My Dr just prescribed Victoza for weight loss, I don’t have diabetes
I received my Victoza today and I realized once I opened the box to be careful to pay attention to which pen you start with first, because you can easily mix them up if you prepare one to keep one at room temperature and other one in the refrigerator that is not in use, so write with a maker # 1 pen( in use after prep for days or by dose use) and # 2 pen(which goes in the refrigerator after picking up at pharmacy until first pen runs out in 30 days or by dose use).
Big tip to thwart the nausea is to take your injection close to going to bed instead of in the mornings. I don't know why it works but it does. The gut grind in the middle of the night when increasing the dose is an other matter and just has to be endured for a couple of nights before it goes away.
Thanks for sharing!
That is my experience with victosa I have been on it since 2019. Although considering trulicity since similar side effects profile
What is gut grind?
I honestly love victoza! I am afraid of self injecting yet I encouraged myself to use this because of the small needle. I am now able to control my diabetes and avoid that fear of huge needles..i dont mind it once a day if the pen needles are small..
Thanks for sharing! Hope everything is going well.
Dr put me on Victoza for weight loss. I do have diabetes and my A1c last week was 5.9...I thought that was good but she told me it could be better...hmm. Yes I am overweight at 219 lbs so I am really hoping this med will help with the weight loss. Thanks for the video and since I am quite sensitive to medications, I will keep the 10 clicks in mind!
Any updates? I hope you’re better now
I was placed on Victoza right after having bypass surgery. Have you ever had dry heaves after having your chest cracked open. It was "unpleasant." After giving time for everything to heal we started back on the medication again. After a period of adjustment, it worked well. I'm still taking it several years later.
thanks for this video! i was scared about the injection part but your advice was right! it was painless!
Very informative, you explained this in a simple way that I could understand it, thank you so much. 👍
HI, Thanks for this, I just started today and this was very helpful. Also the tip for the dose increase was helpful. I’ll be sure to come back in a month and share how it’s going.

@@sugarhighchannel Things are going really well, my BS has been in range since I’ve started my new medication regimen. As a lifelong over eater, the bonus of appetite reduction from the Victozia has been a godsend! Also I’m still at the .6 dose. I think mostly because my body is actually producing a lot of insulin. I’ve lost about 30 lbs and started exercising. I appreciate your video it really helped ease my fears. Victozia has really been a lifesaver!!
This is my first time trying this Victoza thank you all for your information.😊
Ive been on Viktoza since Feb. Only side effect Ive had is I get different migranes. One that I learned is when my blood sugar goes to a lower side. So anywhere under 105 I get a migrane and above 140 I get a migrane in a different area of my head. Found it to be a helpful warning and learned fairly fast which headache means what.

Thank you so much for all the great tips and instructions.
You are a great educator
Lots of good info, I really like your content. Been on Victoza for nearly 4 years. Limited issues luckily, but could use tips for the actual shot. It's not painless, sometimes you get 'zingers' of strong pain (assume I'm hitting a nerve?). I'm not particularly sensitive in general but some days are a struggle. Best advice I gained along the way is use needle bevel side up. Any advice for moving sites? Areas of gut are least painful but need help on best areas to rotate. Thank you for your thorough explanations. 🙂
Good questions. If you’re getting that zing of pain, you’re probably completely right; that’s usually a nerve. It’s kind of unpredictable and happens once in a while. As far as moving the injection sites around, it’s totally up to your preference. Some people like to go back and forth between left and right every day, while others stay on one side for a week at a time, injecting in different locations on that side (like making a circle over the 7 days).
I agree. A struggle. 🙁
My pharmacist told me 45 degree angle is key. I’ve injected blood clotting agents IM in my thighs for years. But those weren’t 45 degree angles. So far, I’ve managed to get lucky and not have any zingers. I too am prone to them. 🥲
I’ve been taking it for 2 weeks & am down 2.5kg. I am pre- diabetic so wanted to try it to lose weight & try to reverse it. I had nausea for the first week. Now increased the dose to 0.8. I also have stomach discomfort & headache but taking panadol for thaw
Do you take it once daily or weekly?

I'm sorry but I'm new to this. I got prescribed Victoza and when I was going to use it, there was no needles. I think my doctor or at least the pharmacist would have said something. 🤔 I don't know. I just thought everything was in the box. Like I said I'm new and it's good to know what you all are saying. I'm learning with this video. Now I know I can buy them at the store. I don't know the name of the needles but I'm assuming they have to be compatible with Victoza.
NObody is talking about whether or not Weight Loss is on going with Victoza and Proper diet and light exercise. How long can weight loss continue on this med? Do you happen to know if weight loss continues after loosing 6-12lbs?
My GP has just recommended this. But what about the side effects and increased risk of thyroid cancer/ tumours and increased renal damage?
I got prescribed this 4/4/24 and I talked to my Dr about side effects causing other problems, when I saw this went crazy! So I'm scared!
I just started Victoza 1.2mg combined with 2g/day of metformin. We went with Victoza because it was on-formulary with my insurance. The metformin mostly worked but I wasn't quite to where I wanted to be. Plus, I wanted something that would help with appetite suppression since I'm in the process of qualifying for weight loss surgery.
THE GOOD (1): It has CRATERED my appetite, even more than the metformin did. Believe me when I tell you that I was once a VERY big eater, but now my appetite is on par with what it will be after the surgery. One small-ish meal of real food, a snack for lunch, and a protein shake or two and I'm good for the day.
THE GOOD (2): It has CRATERED my blood sugar. With the metformin my morning fasting glucose would be 140 - 160. Now it's in the low 80s.
THE BAD: Yes, it did make me sick to my stomach the first couple days after going to 1.2mg. Yesterday was the worst, I seriously thought I was going to throw up even though I hadn't eaten hardly anything. I also got an awful metallic taste in my mouth and burning in my nose. Today is much better, but still a bit green around the gills and belching a lot.
THE UGLY: You are correct, these drugs are exquisitely expensive. Out-of-pocket would be over $1,000 a month, but my insurance covers it. I do get a perverse satisfaction out of clipping the insurance company for that much. ;)
Subscribed because of this post😊 Thank You
Welcome aboard! Glad you found it helpful!
Your videos are so high quality 👍
I had my shots switched to victoza this video is very helpful
What about the "Black Box" waring that Victoza has?
So thankful I found this site! I’ve been using Victoza for 9 months. My blood sugar was starting to act up again (my fault 😔) but I told my doc on no uncertain terms…I would not use metformin. It made me feel terrible. He suggested this and I like it. Problem is, I was shown how to inject it by his nurse, but then I have been traveling and had no source of information on it. I have questions! Showing how to do the injections was helpful, but I would so like to see it being done on a human! Placement of injection site? I was told close to the belly button. But on one side of my belly b, the injection hurts. So I use the other side, but how close can I use a site next to another day’s site? Another video I watched, a lady said she used her arm or thigh also. I would like instructions on this. That lady was given Victoza for weight loss, not her blood sugar!
Btw, I haven’t lost any weight using this med, but I sure feel better than when I used metformin!
Did you changed your diet?
I took Metformin 2 days and had a very bad reaction to it. I am going to start Victoza this week, Im hoping I dont have any trouble with it.
Anytime we look to impact the GI and SLOW gastric anything one must have some concern for the downstream effects (and possibly some upstream like communication to the brain), possible nutrient depletions, mineral depletions etc. Have you found any data on these topics? These medications are getting very popular and with that comes concern over time of using this (or any other) medications.
Thank you so much for this video!!! It helped me so much.
The only thing I don't like about these pens is the fact that if I hold it for 5 or 10 seconds it still leaks after I remove the injection. What works for me is I inject wait 10 seconds partially pull out and then put it back in.
To this day I still hate taking insulin because it's harder for me to control my blood sugar levels but Victoza makes me not eat as much but the price is pretty high for my insurance but I would still recommend using it.
Glad you’re doing well! Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Im was prescribed this medication and about to go pick it up this week. I'll let you know how I feel and how it's goes

I JUST GOT DIAGNOSE WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES...😭 USING INSULINE ANS THIS PRODUCT NOW.THANKS...FOR EXPLANATION👍
My experience with Victoza was awful. I got terrible pancreatitis and my gall bladder went bad and had to be removed. I did start on “Saxenda” which is (or was? They may have stopped making it) basically just a double dose of Victoza. Maybe the higher dosage contributed, but I would never recommend this to anyone.
I’ve just started my Victoza injection only a week my dose 0.6 so far
AWESOME video,,,thanks a million ❤❤
Thank you for this (and thanks to Kevin for being a pin cushion)
I was on Victoza since 2016 and earlier this month, my PA took me off Victoza and wanted me to go Ozempic. So I just started on Ozempic. I did well on Victoza lost weight, but PA maybe try Ozempic.
the last tip you gave was everything
You’re awesome! Perfect instructions!
I just got my meds today!! Ozempic wasnt covered under my insurance, however i was giving this instead. I will try it and see what happens. I am afraid of any of the side effects. I will be willing to pay for Ozempic if this medication becomes too much to deal with.
I went to the Dr. And my A1C was 9.6 my sugar 247 and I weighed 234 😮😮! Dr put me on victoza 9 days ago I’m already on the 1.2 dose for the next 21 days . I’ve lost 6 lbs sugar is down to 140 not sure about my A1C till the end of the month . So far it’s working with zero side effects , I’m eating less not very hungry at all . Going to be switching to ozempic because that’s what I was prescribed but they were out now it’s back in . The needles are so small you can’t even feel them , I know some ppl are worried about that but it’s not a big deal and you have to do what you have to do and it’s worth it .
Just wondering if you had any symptoms beforehand? Your story is pretty close to mine, I’m waiting hopefully today I’ll get my needles I feel horrible
Thank you this video was very helpful. I was stressing about this new medication.
Glad you found it helpful!
Hello doctor first time in your Channel I'm using the pen first time today just want to make sure I was doing it right thank you for explaining things.
Thank you for sharing, love the intro👍🏽
I'll be starting Victoza soon this was helpful
I just found out that I was got to be put on this medication and i was like...what??? Thank you for the infotainment
Thanks for knowledge about victoza pen using and advantages, Draw backs.
Im currently on day 6 of victoza 0.6 dose for 1 week and was instructed to increase to 1.2 for week 2. So far I’ve seen some great/ immediate improvements with my blood sugar and was so glad to come across this particular video. It was very informative and I really appreciate it. So far with the week ive experienced decrease hunger and surprisingly haven't had bowel movements as often (TMI- my apologies💁🏾♀️) so my question is if constipation is a common side effect to this because ive found that I may have to buy laxatives or try some method to keep my bowels regulated. So has anyone experienced constipation? If so please share any insight for maintenance. Thank you!!!❤
I love this med! Was on glimpride and it was ineffective. Was put on ozempic and did well with sugar levels..but I think for me a once weekly injection was to much. Have a lot of tummy issues already and was made 10x worse. Yes, no one wants to take a shot daily..but I would rather that then the pain from gas/ constipation. ( sorry tmi) For me a less longer lasting med has been better...
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
