    Have had this monitor for nearly two months now and the latest firmware fixed a few issues. I still find the HDR crushing detail and just overall too dark. I’ve been gaming on standard mode and I find the colors and detail really impressive. Really have enjoyed my experience with this monitor to this point; HDR isn’t the greatest, but it’s an OLED panel.

    I've had this monitor for a week. Honestly, I'm really torn about returning it. It's a beautiful monitor. It is my first 4K and OLED monitor. But there are a couple of things that have been driving me crazy. Quick bright flashes. Like goal explosions in Rocket League. Are cauaing a quick flicker. Almost like it's adjusting the brightness. Tested out overwatch 2 this morning. The HDR looked great. Until you would go from looking at a bright scene to a darker one.. again when it's quick movement. The transition isn't smooth, and it flickers. I've never had HDR before so I'm not sure if it's performing as expected, and I'm just being dramatic. Noticing the smaller details as the monitor is double the size as what I previously had.

      With Microsoft office you don’t have to have the window fill the whole screen. If it does the uniform brightness makes it look dull anyways. Most people don’t cover this as much but you can just keep it at whatever size window suits you best. It’ll be the size you want it to be and it’ll have better brightness. The larger screen means more size options for anything you keep in a window.

    • @1UpNerdcore
      @1UpNerdcore Před rokem

      The text looks crisp to me because I’ve enlarged it. You could run cleartype also to help. This is 42 inches here and ppi won’t be as good as 32inches since it’s the same resolution just stretched out to 42inches.

    • @damienmason3807
      @damienmason3807 Před rokem

      To work out the PPI for any monitor simply....3840x3840 + 2160x2160 = 19411200. Then take 19411200 and square it (squared). Then divide this number by the diagonal size of the monitor (in this case its actually 41.5 to be exact) = 106.16PPI. Remember the industry standard is 110 so it should be 100% fine. When you consider both the new LG 240Hz 45-inch OLED and Corsair bendable OLED both have PPIs of 83, this Asus smokes those.
      I'm currently using an IPS 1920 x1080 24-inch panel with a PPI of 93 sitting about 85/90cm away and its 100% clear. You can't see any pixelation.

    I think the main issues are those not concerning gaming. People want to know if you can turn this into your only monitor so doing emails, word, excel, text clarity etc. I've gone through dozens of reviews and the pixel burn-in panic is eminent. "don't buy this for productivity" etc. The text that was on your screen appeared fine. I'm currently using an IPS 1920x1080 with a PPI of 93 and sitting 85/90cm away the text is 100% fine and clear. Just use transparent/translucent taskbars with the pixel cleaning and shift plus screensaver - and when you step away from the monitor put a 5-minute timer on it.

      It’ll be personal preference. The PPI here is lower since it’s a larger screen but I personally don’t mind it. Some people won’t like it at all though. The high contrast and vivid colors are amazing. All white screen is bad but I don’t see that often.

    • @1UpNerdcore
      @1UpNerdcore Před 2 měsíci

      Because that’s a personal preference thing. If you don’t know that this size monitor at 4K will need text scaling then you shouldn’t be looking at buying it.

    • @greg_289
      @greg_289 Před 2 měsíci

      @@1UpNerdcore Thanks for the reply! There are three variables at play: screen size, resolution and scaling. In your video you forgot about scaling, and in your reply to my comment you forgot about screen size: You can't claim that a 4k panel will always need scaling, because it depends how big it is.
      A 43 inch 4k panel has a pixel density of 105ppi, this is identical to a 28 inch panel at 1440p. It's unlikely you'd want to apply scaling to the 28 inch display at 1440 (or at least I wouldn't). Even if you did, it certainly wouldn't be as much as 300%. By scaling up the image, you improve clarity, but reduce usable space. In the 300% example the usable resolution of the 4k display drops to 1280x720 - at this scaled resolution of course text looks clearer (because the OS is still rendering the scaled output at the pane's native resolution) but the benefits of having a large monitor are gone - you have less usable space than even a 1080p screen. (The reason an OS might default to 300% for a 4k resolution is because it doesn't take into account screen size - a 15 inch laptop with a 4k display would likely need the screen to scale to 250 or 300% to make it usable.)
      The reason I raise this issue is that OLED panels have issues rendering text at lower scaling factors, which is most noticeable at the native resolution. This monitor is big enough to run at its native resolution. However, due to the RWBG sub-pixel layout the text is not clear at 100% scaling.

    Ive been monitor hunting for a while now. This monitor is currently about $1400 and definitely isnt worth it. Its an OLED which reduces its functionality and risks burn in, its not curved so itll be difficult to use at that size. HDR like most monitors of this class is a hassle having to set up and tweak. If they drop it to about $750 thats roughly where its value is because of the OLED,. Currently standard $300-$400 IPS/VA panels outperform this.

    Oled not worth it as the burn in crap is for real!. No matter what pixel cleaning crap Asus says it's doin. BTW, this Asus monitor is NOT that bright @ 500nits. Folks who want a 4K monitor should IMHO as I done go for a high refresh rate IPS, HDR monitor, at least 600nits and 32" minimum for 4K. Wait a few years and either the burn in will be solved or something new comes out and does not have burn in issues.
