  • Summary: This webinar was been organized by Parkdale's Neighbourhood Land Trust to provide Board / staff members of Parkdale-based partner organizations with an overview of the key concepts and considerations of Affordable Housing Development.
This is the Second of a webinar series entitled, Affordable Housing Development for Non-Profit Boards, consisting of three (3) individual two-hour webinars on the topics of:
    - Affordable Housing Development 101
    - Finance, Funding, Partnerships
    - Good Stewardship of Community Assets
Context: In recent years, multiple Parkdale-based non-profit organizations have initiated projects to acquire or develop new affordable housing. This is exciting because affordable housing responds directly to a critical community need and has a deep and lasting impact. However, these complex projects put new demands on non-profit Boards, such as approval of major investments, new partnerships, financing and long-term commitments to the community. At each decision point Boards must feel confident that the risks and benefits are acceptable. To assure informed and effective governance, it is critical that Board members are well informed about affordable housing development, financing and long-term stewardship. It is our hope that providing training to Board members of local non-profits will lead to more successful affordable housing projects in Parkdale.
Presenters: The webinar content had been developed and will be delivered by Cahdco, an Ottawa-based non-profit development corporation. Cahdco combines the affordable housing experience and resources of Centertown Citizens Ottawa Corporation (CCOC) with a team of development, construction, and project management experts. Cahdco clients/partners include Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, Carefor Community and Health Services, CCOC, Cornerstone Housing for Women, The Elizabeth Fry Society, Ellwood House, The King’s Daughters and Sons, Multifaith Housing Initiative, Ottawa Mission, Ottawa Salus, Somerset West Community Health Centre, St. Patrick’sHome, and the Youth Services Bureau.
