Welcome to the club man! Hololive has some BOMB talent. If you wanna hear something more “conventional” from Mori you should listen to “end of a life”. It’s more relatable while a lot of music on her EP has “Lore” to go with her online persona.

Calliope Mori is a virtual youtuber, and she works for a company called Hololive. Virtual youtubers usually livestream with anime avatars that have their own character/personality. Calliope Mori is a grim reaper/goddess of death. She calls her fans dead beats which is a great play on words. I highly recommend you check out more of her songs. "Red" and "Dead Beats" are two I recommend the most. It is impressive how well she can rap in both English and Japanese. Also, Kawaii is the Japanese word for cute.

"Calliope" has two valid pronunciations, but you nailed the English one (which is the one less people get, actually, so good job XD). She's an incredible artist who tackles a wide variety of genres so every track'll bring something fresh to the table. Others have already commented with a few suggestions. I agree that "end of a life" is probably one of the least lore-dependent songs and one of her best. "Off With Their Heads" is also one of my favorites and isn't particularly lore dependent, either.

@@pj_mist Oddly enough the Greek Muse of eloquence and epic poetry, for who Calli is named, has a Greek pronunciation closer to the JP version.
Fun fact... at debut Calli's JP name was rendered in kanji, as 'beautiful-voiced', a literal translation of the Greek name Calliope. This was later changed to a katakana spelling reflecting the pronunciation, which the kanji didn't. In contrast her family name "Mori", from the Latin 'to-die', is rendered using the kanji for 'forest' and has the same pronunciation in JP and EN.

    Kawaii means cute.
Moe is like... it's a concept of innocence or cuteness that is used for fiction female characters, usually in anime.
Seiso is actually referring to a humble appearance, or clean/tidy in Japanese but now it's essentially been adopted as slang meaning wholesome.
Her character is a reaper of death, so she essentially says she uses cuteness to help 'slay'(both bars and souls).
Dead Beats is what she calls her fanbase.
Also when she says 'Come a little closer Kusotori, then laugh at me,' and that other character pops up for a second, the other character is part of her lore, and is another member in her Hololive group. Calliope is a reaper, and Kiara(Kusotori, or "Shitbird") is a phoenix who she keeps killing, but you know... phoenix rebirth and all that.
Her DemonDice stuff will probably be easier for you to breakdown, since as Calliope she uses a lot of Japanese and references that are difficult to understand if you haven't been a fan for a while/know her character's lore etc. (You might like 'Q' by her and Gura tho. It slaps. The only lore you need to know there is they're kind of the 'unofficial queens' of Hololive, but they were both getting a lot of bullshit from fans.)
DD is her, Calli is her character. She uses them both to touch on a lot of similar topics, but her DD stuff is a bit more serious, and you should def check it out.
Oh, but if you do, don't mention that they're the same person. Legality and shit.
If you ever want a rundown of this stuff to better understand why her shit is so good, DM me. Been waiting for you to want to break these down, lol.
Hope you're well, man. Stay safe.

Hi! I am a day one Calliope Mori fan. One of my favorite things to do is to watch people who make reaction content discover Mori for the first time. That's what brought me to your channel. I am more than happy to explain to you what is going on.
First off, Calli is a Virtual CZcamsr, also known as a VTuber. A VTuber is a real flesh and blood person, who chooses to use motion capture software and wireframe rigging to create a virtual avatar. This avatar is the pink haired anime character you see in her video. This avatar is then used to do things like livestream, or make videos, much like you do.
Often times, these Avatars are designed around a certain theme. In Calli's case, that theme is that of a Grm Reaper. This is why you see scythes and skulls, and a lot of death stuff in her videos, because it is on theme.
Some VTubers operate independently, much like you do. Others work for large organizations. Calli is one of the latter, as she works for Hololive, which arguably is one of the most popular VTubing companies in the world. Hololive is based out of Japan, which is where the VTubing movement was popularized. Calli lives in Japan, and speaks both English and Japanese fluently. She will oftentimes have both English and Japanese lyrics in her songs, and sometimes she'll even fuse the two together. the word Diejoubou in the Please RIP song is an example of this, as it uses the english word die to make a pun based off of a Japanese Phrase. Daijoubou.
Calli has a large Catalog. She has released 2 EPs and a couple stand alone singles. If you want to dive more into her music, I suggest starting with the song "End of a Life." It is all english, and contains some of her best songwriting yet. The beat is also really good, and she sings on the track as well.
VTubing is a broad and multifaceted topic, so it's kind of hard to encompass it all in one post. If you have any questions, please just reply to this comment, and I will do my best to answer any you have.

First of all, she's Vtuber (virtual youtuber). Most vtubers (or everyone (don't know didnt check)) are originals characters. Yea similar to anime but not from any anime. They usually stream stuff like any other streamer but instead of webcam, they use that original character.

I've been scrolling and haven't seen anybody explain it in detail to you. so... here you go
    1. Mori Calliope is a Vtuber. Vtuber are people who are hired virtual idols to live double personalities and should never reveal anything without the consent of their producer. Like personal information, face, and specific past, it's all a no-no.
    2. Mori's double persona is a rapper grim reaper. So there is the part she was talking about it in the lyrics like "Modern-day killers", "Cute as all hell, in a literal sense", "SHINIGAMI SENSEI~CALLIOPE~" (master grim reaper calliope)
    3. She is a rapper grim reaper, so her fans are all skeletons (aka dead people). But calling themselves like that doesn't have impact enough so they are named "Dead Beats" as in the lyrics
Dead Beats, listen up! It’s whatcha want?
Me coming in the night for ya!
    3. This song is half about trashing haters (as they hate how she likes to go crazy over the limit) and many of them don't like her personality or how she treated her viewers. Many people are accustomed to Vtuber acting cute, humble, and sometimes mad but never going too far (except for Coco, but she is not a Vtuber anymore so Nah). The fact that Mori is sooooooooo different from the other Vtuber creates the "haters" in this video.
One of the reasons she was hated is because of their belief. They said that Mori didn't really care about this career, and she was a failed artist so she joined this society only to promote herself and her music. They said that she was selfish and she didn't care about her fan (which is also opposite to other Vtuber).
You can listen to the rapping again and you will see Mori dissing her haters
Jealous haters out there, high-five! I see you~
"No one’s gonna buy this.” bxtch, I believe you!
    ...
A bitter pretense, but the views are all tell, no show, dollars, and cents
    ...
Not what you expected? Better tell you straight-forward
Hear you all the way in hell, slamming on your keyboard
Go ahead and BE sore, but I won’t run.
    ...
Gonna take a first-class master V to blast me
    Humans, come at ME
    ...
    4. Mori is an American but she lives in Japan so she likes to play words in both languages. For example:
    (1) But the other saying that I like so much more
It is along the lines of “you reap what you fuxxin SEISO”
instead of writing it as "says so" she writes it as SEISO which has two meanings in Japanese. The first is an act of cleaning away the impure, if she goes with this, it means that she said they tried to put her down but they failed. The second meaning is that these words represent how a woman must have a humble character and a clean personality. So with this meaning, she is saying that the more they hate her, the further she will go away from that.
    (2) "Gotta know, ain’t it so, could ya let go of your soul for me?
    Sugoi DIEsuki~"
In these lyrics, she told us to give our soul to her and write it like that because "d.i.e" reads the same as "dai" in "daisuki" (which means "really really like it" in Japanese). So she is happy that we are giving it to her.
