The section from 3.10 reminds me our band played many times and it was the favourite piece of our bassoon player the much loved and late Dennis.
Beautiful music, lovely painting.
Me preocupa la silla.
The composer Charles Gounod (1818-1893) lived in the beautiful city of Saint-Cloud which overlooks the Seine in the west of Paris. During a stroll in this city some years ago I saw a statue of Charles Gounod to whom some youths had added a cigarette between the lips of the great artist. That gave his beautiful portrait an amazing liveliness and I laughed at this original tribute.
Wonderful, wonderful ballet music. Balanchine's equally wonderful Walpurgisnacht Ballet is well worth watching
I played this as a duet in school for a concert !
This ballet music is included in the Night of Walpurgis. It is often cut off from the representation of the opera, which is a pity since it has a great value as ballet music.
Magnifique musique
Grande ballet. Lindas e nobres melodias. Gounod foi um gênio. A leitura de Sir Collins é maravilhosa. Muita emoção ao ouvir
Maravilhoso!!! Linda composição!!!
Deep sigh for anything by Gounod!!!!!
Lindo ballet e ótima interpretação de Sir Collin Davis.
truly enjoyable, great sound tnank you for the upload i shall revisit.
Magnifique!
Oh/Ooh.,. Beautiful.

Brain twirling music...... love it!
Merveilleux.
Beautiful
Que bella musica!!!

I see what you mean, yes. Reminds me of Bizet, too. Happy New Year from México!
I agree.
Sublime masterpiece. It was used in the last episode of Breaking Bad.
That is one incredible juxtaposition!

Love Serenade By Charles Gounod
Ik vind deze muziek magistraal.
very good ~~~!!!
The music here bears some similarity to Offenbach. Beautiful.
Why do most videos or clips of mvt 1 not have from 0:00 to 0:21? The intro is what sets the mood for the whole play!
8:40 my favorite moment
Too bad that this gets cut from productions instead of some of the other music that makes the opera too long.
The prison escape scene from the movie Papillon brought me here. 8:52 and 15:05
I still think this ballet was written anonymously by Delibes, as it is better than anything else that Gounod wrote - and notably better than his other ballet music. It is on a plane with Delibes' masterpieces La Source, Coppelia, and Sylvia. Musicologists have seriously considered this hypothesis.
Cui prodest?
Absurd proposition
super pour répéter
What was it about Colin Davis and his affinity for Berlioz and the French masters? He phrased beautifully in everything, but his French interpretations were always definitive.
Súperbe,!!!!!!
Musica stupenda

so fun to play oof
@GoodVibesOfficial lmaoo
I prefer when it's performed a little faster, it seems to suit the ballet more
I agree with you, the tempo is too slow. I know this piece of music for very long time
Delibes' ballet music style is very distinctive and this piece is like an integral part from his oeuvre. All passages here show his genius as their master.
Delibe or Gounod?
@@LaurentPingaultLyon It has been suggested that Leo Delibes wrote this part of Faust and I came here to hear for myself.
I think that this piece is very similar to Delibes' style.

Remind me the name of this picture and his author, I saw it at the Orsay Museum
it's Réunion de famille or "Family Reunion" by Frédéric Bazille
It's a beautiful scene of a time when things were a bit more genteel.
e' una vera goduria ascoltare gounod
This ballet, which contains some of the most beautiful music in the opera, is sometimes dropped from a production of "Faust," in the interest of saving a few minutes. This is hilariously misbegotten. Like saving a minute in a baseball game by not requiring the pitcher to throw four pitches when delivering an intentional walk. Listen, baseball isn't supposed to be fast, and as for cutting music from an opera, why not start with "Pelleas and Melisande," and "Parsifal?" The best note in either of those operas is the last one.
