Orvieto. Medieval city centre | Italy #2

A visit to Orvieto in Umbria, Italy. The old city rises dramatically above the neighbouring countryside as it is situated on a nearly-flat hill of volcanic tuff. There was a settlement on this well defensible position since at least Etruscan times. The current city centre is mostly medieval. The top sights include the gothic Duomo with its remarkable 14th-century facade and the 11th century-built church of San Giovenale with its magnificent 12th and 13th-century frescoes. The city can easily be reached from the mainline railway station by using the funicular railway.

Half the video is of a train and funicular... why waste time on those? Filmed on a grey, dark day; not very inviting

That's plenty to be seen in Orvieto, worthwhile to go and pay at least a two days visit to it! The Duomo, various museums (Faina, Opera del Duomo, Emilio Greco, Archeological), two wells (St. Patricks and Of the Cave), few stunning churches, Torre del Moro, Theatre Mancinelli, two Etruscan's archeological sites (Del Belvedere and Crocefisso di Tufo Necropholis) are enough? ;-)
