Got everything back together. Now all I need to do is center and tension my blade.
    Thanks.

Thank you for your very good and easy instructions on how to adjust the bandsaw blade.

You really cover everything and I appreciate it. I’ve followed you on Instagram.
But I don’t have the confidence to dissemble everything like you did. My saw has no knobs to remove the table too. Maybe it’s an older model. But I’d like to clean everything and remove whatever rust and dirt I see.

All tuned up. Got new tires, Timberwolf blade, new bearings and air hose. Back together and running ok. Seems a bit noisier than before but I went from 1/4” to 1/2” blade.
    Thanks for your help. Seriously.

Fantastic video. Thank you for doing this. Do you have any tips about adjusting the table to improve tracking while using a fence?

    • @TheEndGrainWorkshop
      @TheEndGrainWorkshop  Před měsícem +1

Here are some tips for improving bandsaw tracking and fence:
      Blade tracking
Make sure the blade's centerline is in line with the upper wheel's centerline, regardless of the blade's width. This will help keep the blade aligned with the blade guides. You can also check that the blade is centered on the wheel by opening the idler wheel compartment and using a ruler to measure both sides of the blade. The blade should be equally spaced from the outside of the wheel.
      Wheel alignment
Make sure both the upper and lower wheels are aligned properly. Misaligned wheels can make it difficult to achieve the desired cut.
      Fence alignment
Make sure the fence is parallel to the miter slot. You can also try adjusting the fence to match a line you drew on the table top with a pencil.
      Blade guides
Make sure the blade guides are set equally on both sides of the blade. You can also try bringing the guides in slightly away from the blade, but not quite touching. Some people use a feeler gauge or a corner of the blade pack to determine the right distance.
      Thrust bearings
Make sure the thrust bearings are a paper's width away from the blade.

BTW, my 2005 PWBS 14 doesn’t have knobs on the bottom to remove the table.

Ok. I think I got it. My wife must have slipped me some goofballs this morning in breakfast.
I notice that Amazon sells both upper and lower bearing housings as well as the bearings themselves. My bandsaw has been in storage for over 15 years. Do you think I should just replace the whole units rather than just the bearings?

  • @paulmanhart4481

Ok. I had the wrong hole for the thrust bearing. But once assembled, the blade is touching the right bearing and the thrust bearing is pushing into the blade. The assembly seems to be as far back as it can be.
I just changed tires and blade and am having trouble getting the blade in the tire center. What a mess.

Hi. This is a very good video. Thanks.
I have one of these PWBS 14 that I bought in 2005. I recently removed the upper and lower wheels to replace the two tires. The upper wheel was difficult to remove and I heard a “clunk” or two coming from behind.
Now I have both wheels with new tires on and I’m trying to put in my new blade. But somehow the tension lever got turned around and the knob at the top doesn’t move the upper wheel. I’m at a loss on what to do. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Paul

      @@paulmanhart4481 Hey Paul,
Sounds like it could be an issue with the tension spring. Sometimes they can become fatigued and will need to be replaced. I hope this helps and thanks for your feedback!

You never say which way the central shaft is inserted. It has a lip in it. Is the lip on the inside or outside?
I removed all my bearings but the rear thrust bearing hole doesn’t line up with the mounting hole. I checked the original and it has the same problem. What’s the trick?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Your video did a great job showing how to change out bearings and tires. However I am disappointed in your lack of instructions on how to put the table back on. I am having trouble aligning the table in all three axis...there is little to no finger space to make adjustments to the trunnion. I wish you would have spent more time on this. The Powermatic manual is lacking in depth to the finer points of aligning the table top.

I have the Powermatic PM1500 version band saw. I went to rip some 3/4 thick x 4-1/2 tall pine boards down to half inch thick today and was disappointed a bit. The blade was drifting off the side of the board immediately. I’ve checked my blade tension, my bearings are all in the proper place, I have a 1” blade that is an alternating type, with teeth at 3tpi. Is that a good blade to use for this application? I looked in the trouble shoot menu of the manual. A few things listed as possible issues and fixes. One is, was the blade sharp, I’m not sure how to tell, except that I know it’s not that used yet and feels sharp to the touch. The other thing was clean the blade. I have no idea on how you clean a band saw blade, manual says nothing about this. Would you know? I have no idea why it wouldn’t go through these pine boards like butter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thx

For resawing on a 14"-15" bandsaw a 1/2" blade with 2-3tpi is a good choice. To clean the blade first unplug the bandsaw and then open the upper wheel compartment. I'm right handed so I would manually turn the upper wheel with my left hand and with my right hand with a glove hold a razor blade perpendicular to the blade and scrap off as much saw dust residue as you can while turning the wheel. Once you've done that to one side of the blade then repeat for the other side. Once you've removed the saw dust residue on both sides of the blade, then take off the blade and coil it up like I showed in the video. Take a five gallon bucket and pour some "Simple Green All Purpose" Cleaner into the bucket. Fill it up about a quarter of the way, then place the coiled up blade in the bucket. Clean the blade with a brush and just keep rotating the blade and cleaning it unit you've cleaned the entire blade, then reinstall it on the bandsaw. You're right it should be resawing thru pine like butter. If you've checked the tension make sure the tires are in good shape and you don't have any slippage. Also, make sure your fence is square to the blade as that can cause drift as well. I hope this helps and thanks for watching the video.
