    This is a great tutorial. I'm sorta new to VPN, but once you have the server configured and running, if I want to run a torrent client like transmission, is there any additional configuration that I must do?

      +ogopotse mabe that means that your user has no permission to make that change. Check the ownership of the files and the folder. or use "sudo" in front of your command

    The client certificate that you've created in video is of 0 bytes. I've got the same issue, OpenVPN wont accept it. Any suggestions what could be causing it?

      Hi there. What button do you mean, the one at 19:50? That is a VPN Client application called Viscosity, but it is only available on Mac and Windows, if you are using Xubuntu just go to the OpenVPN web page and download the client.
      Another option is to use the VPN connection manager built in your Xubuntu Network manager. And another option, is to download a tool called Gadmin OpenVPN Client. I hope it helped. if not, just ask again.

    Very good tutorial, except the end, where a few steps are missing for Ubuntu users. How can I connect my vpn once I have written the file server.conf ?

    • @UbuntuHowToDoIt
      @UbuntuHowToDoIt  Před 8 lety

      Hi Cyril. Well this video was just to install an configure the server.
      The files you need to connect to your server (if you follow my tutorials) are:
      - *.ovpn file
      - ca.crt
      - client.crt
      - client.key
      - dh2048.pem
      I have several tutorials on my webpage.
      To create the *.ovpn file check the step 3 in this tutorial --> goo.gl/7Rb9XA
      Anyway this video is old. I posted new step-by-step tutorials on my webpage:
      If you need to install and configure OpenVPN using TUN and UDP, check here --> goo.gl/NaW2HI
      If you need to install and configure OpenVPN using TAP and TCP, check here --> goo.gl/qevvml

      From the command line:
      apt-get install openvpn
      openvpn --config /path/to/config.ovpn
      From GUI you can take a look at Gadmin OpenVPN Client

    what ports does openvpn use?

    • @UbuntuHowToDoIt
      @UbuntuHowToDoIt  Před 10 lety +1

      By default TCP:443 and UDP:1194. They recommend using the UDP:1194 port because it works better for OpenVPN tunnels, but due to the restrictions existing in some public locations, where they block all ports except the most common ones (http, https, ftp, pop3) they have the TCP:443 option. And they also have the TCP:943 port where you can access the web server interface (yourservername:943).
      So, the short answer is:
      OpenVPN uses ports TCP:443 TCP:943 UDP:1194

    How do I download the keys over ssh?

    • @UbuntuHowToDoIt
      @UbuntuHowToDoIt  Před 9 lety

      ONETWOREE use the scp command.Let's say that you have the keys in "/etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/client.key" and you want to move it to the folder "/home/user/Desktop" in the 192.168.1.1 computer.
      Then type:
      scp /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/client.key user@192.168.1.1:/home/user/Desktop
      It's going to ask you for that user's password.
      You can do it the other way around. You are in your computer, the keys are in the server with IP 192.168.1.2 in the same folder I said above and you want to copy the keys to your desktop.
      Then type:
      scp root@192.168.1.2:/etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/client.key /home/user/Desktop
      You need to know the root password.

      Ubuntu - How to do it do we have to enable two interfaces ? i mean one for the local network and another for the vpn ? and do we have to set a bridged interface ? i'm trying to configure openvpn under ubuntu server 14.04 and what ever configuration i did I always got the same public IP ,,

    • @UbuntuHowToDoIt
      @UbuntuHowToDoIt  Před 9 lety

      Hi Sara MAFTAH maybe you want to read this www.ubuntu-howtodoit.com/?p=20 and this www.ubuntu-howtodoit.com/?p=39 I just posted those and if what you want is to use bridging instead of routing then read the one about the TAP interface
      In the example on this video I use routing (TUN) and I am only using 1 interface.
