Thank you for this review. It certainly helps me to decide to send my mixer for repairs opposed to purchasing a new the quality of the new ones don’t seem to be the same.

I haven’t used mine in several years, but it sounds like what I remember. Good luck…

Your Kitchen Aid mixer sounds just like mine now! They did a great job repairing it. 😊
Can't wait to see those ice cream making videos coming up this summer! 🍧😋

I bought a KitchenAid K5 around 1975 and it still runs as well as it did when it was new. Mine was made before Hobart sold their KitchenAid division to Whirlpool. Since then I have upgraded to small industrial mixers that can handle larger batches of stiff doughs better than my KitchenAid. That said, it is still a great machine and is still the absolute world standard for high end home use mixers.
Here is a picture of two of my mixer upgrades: czcams.com/video/OEV6R9ECg_M/video.html
The white mixer is a Globe SP08 and the mixer to the right of the large blender is a Hobart N50.

Glad to hear that! It sounded more grating than I remember, but could just be me being scared it will die on me again 😅

@@FloralApronBlog your video was very timely because mine is having issues. It's 20 plus years old. I recently bought a refurbished from KitchenAid but am thinking about getting the 20 year old one repaired.

So glad it was helpful for you! If you can manage 6 or so weeks without the mixer, I'd definitely recommend calling KitchenAid and mailing it in. It was a fairly painless process and will save you a LOT of money over buying another. Annnd they may even let you know of a certified repair facility near you, which would likely take less time to get working again and still be the same price to repair. :)
You also *may* be able to repair it yourself with a DIY video or blog post depending on the noise it's making-I watched a few, but I don't think my mixer had a common enough problem to do so. That's a bit more involved of a process than just sending it in, though!

What were the parts they replaced?

I detail what they said needed repairs in the article on my website here: floralapron.com/my-kitchenaid-stand-mixer-factory-repair-experience :)

@@FloralApronBlogThank you for getting back with your information. My guess is the high pitch squeal was from the rear bushing rubbing against the armature shaft. The rear bearing plate should have a felt pad that seeps oil onto the bushing that supports the rear armature shaft. The factory may have failed to put oil into the pad and shipped out the mixer unlubricated. The squealing sound was probably the metal shaft rubbing against the metal bushing. This would harm the armature shaft and the bushing; requiring both parts to be replaced. Your problem was more than likely a manufacturing defect. To prevent this from happening in the future, remove the back bearing support plate from the mixer and apply a few drops of on in the felt pad surrounding the bushing.

      Sounds like you're a pro!
I certainly hope they did that when they repaired it, especially if that was the issue. I haven't had any further issues in the 18 months since the repair was done :)

@@FloralApronBlogYou already disassembled the mixer so you have the skill level to lubricate the mixer yourself. Put a couple drops of oil on the rear bushing, relubricate the gears every couple of years, don't overload the mixer kneading doughs and the mixer will last many lifetimes.
