Can we just appreciate how skilled Paul Brady is at guitar. The stuff he plays may sound easy compared to other stuff but that hybrid picking is absolutely no joke at all.
There sure is some magic at work with that right hand. No effects or distortion to hide any mistakes, every time I've tried hybrid picking it is like trying to pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time.
I admire his flatpicking skills very much. Does anyone know what brand Paul is playing? I don't see anything on the headstock.
I believe its a Yamaha FG180 Red Label
He's one of the world's greatest guitarists but almost nobody ever seems to mention it.
Yes we can!
A fecking Gallic harmonica solo??? WHAT??? I have never in all my days!!!! Mind blown
Paul Brady's rendering of Arthur McBride is in a class of it's own and would make rebels of all who hear it! I never tire of watching and hearing this performance.
Like pure mountain honey dripping from the honey best hive, like the best wine or whiskey that you ever tasted, Andy Irvine & Paul Brady and singing voices of very rarest beauty and stunning quality, the same goes for their instrument playing, their songs, songwriting, and storytelling. their music would be greatly appreciated in any land their music is played, they have got whole-world appeal
I never tire of Paul Brady singing the word 'alligator'
Instablaster...
It's at 09:23 for anyone else wanting to listen to it on repeat
I always loved this song. Two marvellous talents.
Ah the Lakes of Pontchartrain! Pure beauty as Paul Brady sings it and both play it. I drink a health to both Andy and Paul...
All yer 70's guitar heros wouldn't last two minutes with these two!
But how did Andy Irvine even play like that 😭
Eire .... a nation of storytellers .... such an ancient and rich culture.
Finally had the pleasure of seeing paul live in ennis absolute class
It doesn't get any better than this. Fiendishly difficult fingerings feigning effortlessness.
How lucky were they. Sitting there. I'd given anything to see them live..
Just as lucky to be sitting here listening 40 odd years later 🍀🍀🍀🍀❤️
I saw Andy Irvine solo but sadly not Paul Brady. Irvine was brilliant! I also saw him doing a Q and A at the same festival. He was a very likeable and intelligent character.💕
I was lucky enough to see them live. 1977 Town Hall in NYC. Life changing ( as you can see and hear!
Incredible! Andy’s mandolin playing is so unique
Mary and the soldier is a gorgeous tune isnt it ...
These two are absolutely unbeatable.
Arthur MacBride may be one of the best narrative songs ever recorded! I have seen each of these guys on their own, but regret not having the chance to see them together!
They are doing a few gigs together in November. Two in Dublin and one in Castlebar. Saw it on Andy Irvine website this week.
World class
FABULOUS video , Made me cry, So talented, It doesn't get better than this, Great depth of feeling 💓 Instrumentals PERFECT XX, Lovely Guys
Glad you enjoyed it!
gold..
Still one of the best trad albums and my personal favourite. Great songs, great singing, great musicians. top quality.
Arthur McBride (from 17:10 on) is an absolutely extraordinary anti-recruitment song from the early 19th century. That whole world of resistance is ignored in the propaganda: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_McBride
Years later and still timeless. Pure class!
Has to be one of the best recordings of the highest quality musicianship ever made in this country- hard to think of any duo in our history of such quality. The playing on Plains of Kildare is stunning.
Your very high praise is totally justified, every sing word you said is totally true
What are the song names, plz, beautiful
Wonderful, thank you.
5:45 shows that you can indeed headbang over one of the tightest time changes you'll ever hear, and it would be in a traditional folk song with a got dang bouzouki.
So glad that that performances like this are still available, Andy and Paul created something so special when they recorded their album in 1976. Wonderful that Arthur McBride is included here too :)
This is great.
Fantastic live performance....Brady and Irvine are in top form....and they still are, 40 years later !!!!
Thx Danke german
I haven't heard this in decades! I recorded it off a television broadcast and I had forgotten how good it was.
In the 1980s I thought Hard Station is one of the best albums I have heard and i was a heavy metal fan

Esta generacion, nuestra generación actual, no puede superar en nada, la generación de músicos que escuchamos en este video. Hoy en dia se cree que por tocar musica muy rápido, es mejor.
Incredible performances.
