Inshore Jigging for Yellowfin Tuna

  • We follow up our last trip with a decent outing just two days after.
    Captain Chris jigs up 3 yellowfin to start the day. We have a little lull but as the fleet disperses......the fishing improves.

    Nice work boys. Zack is a elite tuna fisherman the way he fights the fish it’s like he’s one with the fish. Gets in that groove. Chris does it too! I learned a lot from this video thanks fellas

    Nice job Chris. My uncle and I went out two days in a row and did pretty well the first day but then went to the canyons and killed some very nice sized tiles. Also before that I caught my first bigeye ever at 16 years of age. Love the videos keep it up man.

      Every now and then you just gotta stick with the crowd if it looks real good. Often most of the fleet aint doing it right so we can eek out some fish

    Awesome video, last year I caught a big bluefin on the jig,you guys are on fire 🔥 this year ,it's been a hard season off long Island, tight line Capt Chris , LOL the credit card bill ,it was worth it ,you put the new pole to work 💪

      Thanks as always for watching Dennis. It's actually been a really tough year for us. I've only ran 3 dedicated tuna trips. Usually by this time of year that's more like 10-15. Work and weather is just killing me.

    Great video brother, loved it, and if you want to see some boats on the water. Venture on down my way on opening scallop weekend, lobster mini season, or the stupid 3 day derby style ARS snapper season we have in Fla on the east coast LOL. Stay safe and keep up the good work.

    Love watching your videos. I’ve watched all of them 3 times at least. We mainly run out of delaware and ocean city md. So i don’t know what the fishing is like up here except for watching your videos. I’ll be in barnigate for a week with the boat and I’m bringing out my nephews and cousins. If you have any advice on spots, techniques etc it would be greatly appreciated.

      You looking for tuna fishing out of barnegat? Or just any type of fishing. Few reefs right out of the inlet, barnegat reef is about 3.5nm out of the inlet, then 2 to the south garden state north and south reefs. Can go for fluke or seabass there. Would reccomend the garden state reefs over barnegat reef

      @@erictrust3409 awesome thank you. Yeah i would like to try to catch a tuna and have been doing it for years down south. But down there this time of the year there are just some spots that typically hold tuna and i don’t know many of them and if they’re holding fish. Thanks for the info.     Do you tie the jig directly to the leader? Or dot you have the jig on a split ring and krimp the line to the split ring?

      50 lb braid. Double albright knot to about 3-4 ft 60 mono. Tied direct to jig using improved clinch

    I would be great to see how you dispatch and handle the tuna for the table. I see you spike them; but do you bleed them, hang them overboard? How do you handle your tuna to make them the best table fare possible?

      Hey Scott, sorry for late response, yes we started spiking all our fish as to be humane as possible by shutting down brain, generally we plunge a knife 3-4 inches right behind pectoral fin which will get them bled well, lately though we’ve been cutting around gill plate and cutting around anal cavity to free up intestines and you can pull all the inners out . Works great

    I’ll love to know what jig you were using, I tuna fish off the coast of Delaware, I’ve probably seen your boat out there! We mostly chunk our tuna but have gotten into jigging a few years back, have all the jigs you could buy but the more information the better, thanks reaper!

    HEY Chris just watched this video and loved it! if you dont mind How close to the shore can you find tuna? and what time of the year they get clos to the shore in NJ? (have a 21ft cc)

      Thank you so much for watching. Typically mid July you can find them as close as 20 or so miles off the DE or north Jersey coast. totally doable on a 21 CC, but you hafta know your limits with the weather!!!

    Great video Chris! Not a big fan of the spinning gear for jigging. I know most like it but it just feels awkward for me once hooked up. I too have Gosa 10K with a matching Grappler jigging rod. Can you tell me what outfit Zack was using to land the last fish in the video? Thanks again for great videos. I always learn something.

      THat was a Penn Fathom 40 NLD (single speed) and one of his homemade spiral wrapped chunking rods. It's about 5'8" or so

    On your spinning outfit, what size and length leader do you use? Flouro? is it a wind on or how do you attach to the braid? Great videos, thank for for sharing knowledge....

      typically 60 fluoro. only about a 4-6 ft length. I use a double albright knot or the FG

      Thanks so much Cody. I didn't meet him but I was within 20 ft of him. He's a cigar chain smoker!!! And his boat is just unreal. Luckily I knew some of the crew on the boats parked right next to him.
