As a kid mum and dad and me and my siblings always sang this as we crossed over the Severn bridge going back home into Wales

Ron Richo I think you will find that altho basseys home town is Wales she is not Welsh by birth neither her parents were Welsh!!! So im afraid 100% definitely not ! She is more British by blood than Welsh!
Actually, her Mother was Welsh and her Father was Nigerian, so yes, Dame Shirley Bassey is 50% Welsh and 50% Nigerian. Also, she was born in Tiger Bay, Cardiff - very much in Wales.
@@Blofeld67 - Many people mix up a person's ancestry with where they were born. And, most people classify themselves based on where they were born, and Dame Shirley Bassey is no exception. She will tell people she is Welsh, because this is where she was born. However, if one is talking ancestry, then Shirley's mother Eliza Jane Bassey's ancestry is English. She was a Yorkshire woman who migrated to Wales before Shirley was born. And, as already stated, her father Henry was of Nigerian descent.
