  • No commentary on this, but it shows the setup of ProTools, ASIOLink Pro and the new Dolby Atmos Renderer V5 operating together on a single PC. If you want deeper explanation of how ASIOLink works I cover that in the following video: • Single Windows PC Dolb...
    Edit: Since posting this video, a more detailed setup process has been covered by Andy Evans. It covers the steps in more detail should you run into any issues getting it all working.

    Critical, is to have the first ASIOLink instance open when you start Dolby Atmos Renderer ie it is the Renderer firing open ASIOLink, not you running it from the program icon (that will just run an instance on your audio out and renderer won't then be the server, it will be a client and not work for you at all). This will happen if you simply set ASIO Device to ASIOLink in Dolby Atmos Renderers device settings as shown in the video. This makes it the audio server receiving audio from ProTools when started first. The ProTools instance of ASIOLink will then open and run as a client of the Dolby Atmos Renderer I/O when you open ProTools after the Renderer. You MUST have the 'Route to ASIO IN' checked green for the ProTools instance of ASIOLink. You MUST have 'Enable multi-clients' checked green in the Dolby Atmos Renderer instance of ASIOLink.

    For those asking about the LTC. I am using DDMF Metagplugin (AAX) to host TXL Timecode Plug-in (VST). This locks to the DAW transport sample/time position and converts to timecode on the fly. You can also replace both with an LTC wav of the same Frame rate generated at following site:

    Thanks a lot mate I finally was able to get everything working. It looks a bit daunting at first but once you get it it all works. Saved me a lot of money not having to buy a mac now or to buy and learn cubase from scratch. Cheers.

    So glad you're doing this! Unfortunately, when trying to adapt this to Nuendo, when I launch the Dolby Atmos Renderer, it gets stuck with an Audio Driver error (input device does not support buffer size 512) even though the buffer size is set to 1024 in the Asio Link Pro Tool and in the audio interface hardware. So the Asio Link Pro window for the Renderer never opens. Any thoughts?

      Assuming the very fist thing you open is the Dolby Atmos Renderer and then the ASIOLink window opens, it should automatically set the 512 buffer for you because its the first device connecting through ASIOLink and DAR requests it to be 512 buffer. If you're using a virtual ASIO or hardware ASIO device driver for ASIOLink, open its control panel to manually set the buffer to 512. Also this needs to be running 48khz sample rate when using 512 buffer size.
      Don't be tempted to open the purple icon to ASIOLink - that can be ignored it doesn't need to be open. ie you don't need to open it and click the START ASIO button as Dolby Atmos Renderer is going to start it for you so it is the main audio management for Nuendo (a multiclient) to connect to through ASIOLink. The buffer size shown in that panel is just what you can run ASIOLink itself at if needed on its own (which you don't). Make sure nothing else (including Windows itself) is using the same Hardware/Virtual device you've set ASIOLink Driver to. Some devices allow both ASIO & WASAPI/WDM at the same time and can cause problems with audio glitching or not being able to connect.

    So glad to have found your videos & solutions !!!! The explanation is still hard to get, but SO great IT IS possible (on Win & Protools !).
    I am anyway so angry they made it so uber complicated for the windows users !

    At 4:58 you show ddmf metaplug-insynth64 where can we find a TC generator like this ?

    • @SamHocking
      @SamHocking  Před rokem +1

      Sure. I am using DDMF Metaplugin (AAX) to host TXL Time Code Plugin (VST). This is a workaround solution because Dolby don't make their Timecode plugin for Windows for some reason.
      You can also simply download a timecode .wav for the same framerate and place that on a free channel instead. Search 'LTC wav' on google and first result is a good site to get that.

      @@SamHocking Perfect, this was what I was looking for since the LTC generator Plug-in is only Mac ( for now ). Thanks

      No sound until it's all set up. ASIO Link & Pro Tools all connected at around 6:30
