    Enjoyed the interview and vegan whole plants foods diet is the best way to go. I also would encourage those who can to grow their own in their garden's/allotment or grow some vegetables in containers such as potatoes, carrots, onions and even herbs if you don't have a garden/allotment. For fruits strawberries can be grown in containers and their are varieties of apples that can be grown in containers.

    Loved everything except the intermittent fasting bit. Dr. Klaper suggested we should fast up to 5 days consecutively every month. Does that mean only water for up to 5 days? I can't imagine how that could be an option for most people, who work one or more jobs, have kids, etc. I understand the premise and the benefits sound great, but at the very least it's a hard line to sell.

    • @waynebusse6376
      @waynebusse6376 Před 5 lety +21

      You don't have to fast for days. My wife and I have been vegan for seven months and we shoot for a six hour eating window. The beauty of it is that there are no set rules, fast when you can, eat when feel you need to. It is the break you give you body from having to digest food. Your blood sugar will stay flat for a longer period and burn fat for energy when your glycogen stores are used up. It promotes autophagy and allows the body to do clean-up and repair.
      I've lost 46 lbs and she has lost 49 lbs in seven months. My wife had lost a thirty year battle with her weight, trying every diet out there and finally had her stomach stapled. In the next year she lost 90 lbs but after a year and a half she started to put it back on and gained thirty back. After she lost the weight she had yards of excess skin that caused yeast to grow under the flaps. A month into a plant based diet, we started intermittent fasting and 90 percent of that loose skin is gone after six months of eating in a six hour window. She works 12 hrs as a RN and she says it's the easiest thing to do. She never eats while at work so no temptations, she drinks if she feels a little hunger, and eats when she gets home. Her energy is never low and is so excited about the excess skin going away.
      My story is a bit different. Six years ago I found out I had stage four pancreatic cancer. After the shock wore off, from having two different drs. give me less than two years, I elected to have radical surgery to remove the seven inch tumor and half my pancreas, spleen, 12" of upper colon, two chunks of liver and a dozen lymph nodes. Four months later, ten new tumors showed up in my liver and the expiration date dropped to one year. I had y 90 glass beads to the liver and got really lucky with only one that survived. One year later I had 35 percent of my liver removed. One year later, another surgery to remove my gallbladder, appendix, and six inches of my sigmoid colon. One year later, another surgery to remove a tumor off my vena cava. Finally, last summer a scan showed two new tumors in my liver and one near my kidney. The scan in Dec found no new tumors for the first time in six years, and the existing ones only grew 1 mm where in the past they usually doubled in size every six months. After only 30 days my t cholesterol went from 258 to 155, LDL from 158 down to 78, bp 139/80 down to 106/60. My oncologist was so impressed with my changes that he is going to go plant based. Guess what his first question was ? Yea, it was " make sure you get enough protein. What are you doing for protein? " He was impressed with my knowledge about a plant based diet after a half hour discussion, and promised to switch before my next visit.
      I had no idea a plant based diet could slow cancer growth when I first went plant based diet. I switched because of the high cholesterol and bp. I feel better than I have in twenty years and have no side effects from all the "obviously " spare parts removed. My shortness of breath and ED resolved after only three months.
      Plant based for life !!! Who knows, that could be 10 plus years now... Much better than two.

      @@waynebusse6376 Wow! You have been through so much! Congratulations on this huge success! How did you use to eat before? I'm seeing great results by eating more potatoes as Dr McDougall recommends. I eat them with a little bit of salt only.
      Instead of oils I use 1 spoon of ground flax seeds in my oatmeal and 2 spoons of sunflower seeds to make my salad dressing with lemon, vinegar and some water. I eat the rest raw or cooked in their own juice and water.
      Dr McDougall recommends to eat only a lot of sweet potatoes and drink water for some time, if someone has cancer or tumors because many people have had great results.

    The point about inflammation and the stone in the shoe is interesting. How does one deal with bursitis apparently caused by exercise and/or a hard mattress and which has been ongoing for years but became painful early this year? I had a cortisone injection (yeah I know........but had it seemed like a last resort), was offered anti inflammatory drugs but declined prior to going travelling o/s. I am a whole food plant based eater, have been for years. The condition is still painful if I don't restrict my movements, but far out, I am an active person intent on maintaining my upper body strength. However if I kayak, I don't have any pain as the action for this activity is below the threshold of stretch induced pain. Is physio advised?

Iwill say here that even though I can understand some vegans not wanting to support a place like kfc, I do like what the lady said about showing support for more vegan foods at fast food restaurants. If we show enough support for them, maybe some day, they add more and keep them continually. No one likes supporting places that help to promote suffering and death of animals. Wouldln't it be nice though, if we could get them to totaly stop selling it? I personally love Beyond Meat products and would love to see them available in restaurants. Not having to starve while my family eats would really be nice.

    I watched my dad die of a heart disease when he was 50 years old, he could barely move because of arthritis and all they could offer him were drugs and an operation that would give him a 50% chance of being paralysed. At 15 years old I knew it was smoking and food that killed him so for medical literature to say epidemiology unknown is outrageous. Smoking was easy for me to avoid when I made the link. But food was much harder because we are given the ‘eat well’ plate and it is full of foods that kill you. Science needs to go back to root cause analysis and testing theories, not whom ever has a vested interest designing a study to produce an outcome. Maybe then our doctors will stop inadvertently lying to us because they have accurate information!

    Very interesting and no doubt there is alot of truth to what you say. As much as I am an advocate for a healthy diet in preventing didease and improving health outcomes however I think you need to be very careful about promising to cure cancer and familial hypercholesterolaemia. This can be very dangerous and result in people ceasing treatments when we know it's alot more complex than this.

      @Citizenthirteen actually I do know quite a few survivors. I agree it's a horrible treatment but it has proven effective for alot of cancers. Of course its best to eat the ideal diet as well. There are also a small number of people who cannot rely on diet to reduce their cholesterol. Every case is different and should be assessed individually. No ones genetics are the same.

      The causes of Parkinson's are still unknown but anything to alleviate the symptoms and reduce cell degeneration would be a good thing. I'm sure a Wholefood Plantbased diet is one of those along with good levels of vitamin D and B12

      @Leonardo D'amico nutritionfacts.org has some videos on parkinsons, also I believe that TrueNorth [Dr. Goldhamer] has a protocol for parkinsons. Even if you can't go there, maybe you could do a skype consult or something. Hope this helps : )

    Pretty much all of the "plant-based" doctors seem to have a strong family history of cardiovascular disease: Klaper, Greger, Kim Williams, etc. They actually might be the types of people who truly can't efficiently process saturated fats without gaining weight or increases in cholesterol, so a plant-based, low fat diet is probably what they need. He should also clarify that we all do not start off with the same genes that can be "turned on" or "turned off" by various foods.
