How are the people who can hire and pay as many of the brightest developers, scientists, economists, etc. as they want, not going to be controlling and owning this? BEWARE: A digital currency is NOT a cryptocurrency. It is just the same thing we had before, and is owned by a central bank or government. You will have to trust them to remain honest!
Apologies but while i agree with you about the ethos you're implying. Verifiability and journaling are the most important aspects of blockchain that just so make them useful for a decentralized currency system.

Blockchain, blockchain, blockchain... Blockchain has become a buzzword for startups and businesses to make media waves. At least half of the projects that you've mentioned in the video sound very dubious if you replace "blockchain" by "decentralized public activity ledger". It's a technology that will surely find its use in some areas outside of cryptocurrency but so far it has mostly been used for improving investor relations.

I can't even find a non-shitty website that even mentions this token/platform. No 3rd party sources are even talking about it. Seems they came out of NOWHERE a week or two ago and started shilling (unsuccessfully, I might add) on reddit, medium and low-quality "news" websites.

you are mixing the concepts of decentralized cryptocurrency with "digital currency", which is even more centralized than cash.
Yup
Digital currencies won't use cryptography or blockchain, you will literally have a excel spreadsheet entry at the central bank, and if you ever end up on a no fly list at random, like Cat Stephens did, expect your currency to be locked forever, and be on hold with customer no service while they tell you nothing because privacy, or something....
And for 99% of those cryptocurrencies, nobody is running nodes except for the devs. They are as centralised as an SQL database.
There is a reason why Bitcoin is running 99.9% of the world's cryptocurrency nodes.

When it comes to blockchains, whoever has the most money will have control. If blockchains are the _only_ thing people cared about, the person/group with the most money simply needs to buy more than 50% of the world's computing power to control it. Of course, if we have many blockchains, this will be more difficult. However, according to a theory (and I don't remember the name of it), we will typically only consolidate to a handful of items (in this case, blockchains). As such, if people want control, they just need to control, say, 20% of the blockchains and they will probably already come out ahead.
At the end of the day, in my opinion, we will end up with the same situation in which a select group of organizations are in control. The real power of blockchain is for smaller applications such as the poaching idea mentioned in this video, and not for international-scale applications such as complete financial institutions. At least, that's my opinion.

There are people who live first world lives here because of taking advantage of the opportunities that exist and then others who do not achieve much because they choose to focus on all the bad and negative. I choose to look at both.

Hi Dagogo, once again - awesome video. However, it’s very important to note that the Digital Yuan, is not based on blockchain. I’m not certain what it’s using though. They’re merely digitizing their currency, sure - but blockchain can’t yet take any credit for this planned transformation.

Normally I agree with your viewpoint 100%. This time I have to say I'm nto so sure. Central banks and governments are embrcing blockchain and cryptos on one hand, but creating legislation to make crypto ownership more challenging, at least in North America. The adoption rate isn't anywhere close to what was once predicted either. I'd like to present the idea that banks and govenments could use these tools as a way to truly secure national money supplies, and track where every penny goes.

When considering the decentralization of a blockchain and the ability to deal directly with someone without the bureaucratic layers would bring costs down with having less people in the mix while having the trust factor being built into the whole concept from the start. Although the tracking potential is there it isn't far off of what occurs with your purchases on Amazon right now.

Yes, it is actually in the best interest of the govt as they will beable to uncover the trail of all transactions. Except also, it may help with self-regulation as they themselves may not be immune to covering up their own corruption.
Agree, especially when you consider that the gov forgoes on hundreds of billions of dollar of unreported taxes each year. If you can digitize the money supply, you can effectively have total control in terms of monitoring these types of things.

Great video! It will be really interesting to see what would happen, if the US-Dollar would drop significantly in value. Currently most stable coins are still backed by the Dollar. Something like this could really trigger people to move into Bitcoin.
Additionally, I think it's great, that you present the other use cases BCT brings to the table. Especially fair digital voting and transparent supply chains. I think one of the biggest use cases will be digital identities on the Blockchain. Having a digital identity that is sybil and spoofing proof will be the absolute key to secure and do anything digitally.

This whole crypto thing certainly didn't start as a government thing. It will be interesting to see how they seek to twist it, but the technology itself has some fairly inherent properties that tend to resist governments messing with it too much. The synthesis of crypto with fiat currencies is going to be a fascinating thing. 🍿
Money is the language of value. Crypto is a new dialect, and crypto fiat is as well, but with a more familiar sound. The interesting question is how can we use these tools to start to account for the things that we have not been accounting for? You know, like a clean environment. Like molecular flows, biodiversity, efficiency, peaceful cooperation, caring for people ... those little things that are mostly off the radar of the current financial system, but which contribute hugely to us all having good lives.

Thanks for making this. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin holder here from almost the start. You are right, the more a population distrusts their government, the more they will continue to gravitate towards anything to do with the blockchain. It's up to them to do their research however, or they may get burned.
