Its just the English way ( if you mean some remote islands, Aruba, or just a few years they conqured others) A dna test, the significance means nothing, in 1580+ some of Dutch city's half of the people where Flemisch (north Belgium) refugees( politics and religion, death penalty) from the Spanjards, and yes they where rich and they helped build some city's ex. Leiden and many others, started business big companys, printing books, textiles name it, involved in politics, religion and law, members of you know the VOC also MCC, WIC(look it up) there decendens even in exploring the world,or financing it, even the story of Peter Stuyvesant in NY is a half truth. Yes, his Dutch accent is undeniable ;-). My ancestors are from The Moluccas (Maluku) and to answer your question: What would have happened if the Dutch had not occupied many of these islands? I truly believe the people would have been able to thrive. Most Westerners do not realize that there were highly developed cultures in other parts of the world ... even more advanced than in Europe, btw. You should check out videos about the Austronesian peoples if you like to know more about the eastern part of Indonesia. I've watched some good ones and will look if I can find some links to share.

I am Indonesian and as Indonesian we do not live in a jungle lol, well some of preserved old tribes do live in jungles but it probably less than about 1% of the population.
We have metropolitan cities, we have amazing trains system inner and intercity, we have toll roads, we have football stadiums, we have International Airports.
We are at the moment building a new Capital city from scratch in the middle of a jungle by trying not to do much damage to the jungle itself.
We have large malls, high rise buildings, we have newly built High Speed Train.
Most of Indonesian wishing we were colonized by British because most of their colonies turned out prosperous, but imho despite of the colonialism bitterness without Dutch we will not be Indonesian as big as it is now, as unite as now.
It is true that Indonesia not really well known by outside country because we are largest Muslim majority country, people i did read some paper that some people reluctant to visit Muslim majority country because they think it is not safe, but trust me Indonesia is super safe country.
I am Indonesian and not Muslim myself and still feel at home and accepted here, Indonesian people are one of the kindest people in the world. If you check in Internet about world most generous country you will find Indonesia is number one for a couple of consecutive years.
Ask me away if you want to know more about Indonesia.

East Indies is what is Indonesia today, West Indies being the America.
Indonesia didn't exist as a nation but was a region with many kingdoms and tribes on many more islands.
It is the Dutch that thought Indo leaders nationhood, as the Dutch Indies being operated as one unity, ironically laying the first stone of its own independence. If there were no Dutch this region would still be a collection of small nations or (partly) submerged by Japan or sumtin.

i've been two times for 6 weeks each time to indonesia (that is possible in europe with vacation days) and travelled throug many parts of the country.
i've seen kalimantan (borneo) and papua were i spend time were tribes still live, and so many places and islands inbetween.
every larger island and region can be seen as a different country and culture.
the differecers a greater than all the differences in the cultures you see in europe.
also everey reagion has different laws that apply there, just like there are different laws in differet satates in the usa.

Stating that Indonesia would remain "jungle people" without the arrival of Europeans could be an inaccurate generalization. Before the arrival of Europeans, Indonesia already possessed cultural diversity, social structures, and significant levels of civilization. It's essential to note that Indonesia's history is extensive and involves advanced civilizations like the Srivijaya and Majapahit Kingdoms,
The history of kingdoms in Indonesia began in the 4th-5th century AD.
Without European arrival, alternative scenarios could include more independent and sustainable development of local kingdoms in Indonesia. These kingdoms had their own systems of governance, economy, and culture. People during that time lived within diverse social structures, with primary livelihoods including trade, agriculture, and fishing. Trade with neighboring countries such as India and China played a crucial role in shaping the economy and culture. In essence, Indonesia undoubtedly possesses a rich cultural heritage both before n after contact with Europe.

If Dutch didn't colonise, Indonesia wouldn't have become a nation, that's true. But they're still great people and strong built with resources since centuries! I heard that their resources like minerals and vegetation are abundant. Only they would need visa to visit each other island. 😅

Is this also India? No, those are Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (formerly known as Birma). I would expect an American with sufficient age, education or curiosity to at least recognize the first first name from history.
Also as t close to India? At the shortest point you can put Texas, new Mexico and possibly Arizona in between them. You may have to push Sri Lanka out of the way but that is allowed as that is its own country.

Even without Dutch colonialism, our nation would have been more advanced than your nation. Look at the large and majestic Borobudur Temple, this building was built by our ancestors and our nation is the most advanced in making warships, especially the Djung Java ship which is the largest ship. in the world until Mongolia was defeated and unable to conquer the Singhasari kingdom in Java,
