- This Video we Prep and Install a Removable Redneck Awning to use
at campsites. A camouflage 9x7 Tarp. We install more grommets, and install Places to connect them to the Trailer.
This is just one more addition to my Enclosed trailer conversion project.

simple but very effective...nice job
Some good Ideas...
about the door rubbing on the tarp. In the early days of camping a lot of old-timers would just put a caster wheel attached to the door. It would roll on the tarp as it opened...
HC in Maine....
Ive seen the caster wheel approach..and i thought about that... but i dot have one. so i improvised. Maybe it will work just fine..
THnaks for watching
I live in the Nevada desert where it rains five times a year and the wind shreds tarps to bits, so I will use a shade clothe first to allow the wind to pass and still carry a tarp for mainly on the ground.
Wind would blow that off quick for sun shade only imo weight of water buildup would also pull it off bolt eyes with hooks would have been best
thanks ..very cool ...saved me a fortune i dont have
Great Idea. I was waiting to see how you would handle the door lip. Good solution.
Thanks!!!
I work with those magnets. i can get them locally.. would be stronger for sure
If you go on Amazon and search rare earth magnets, they are very very strong and may have fit into that hole in the original magnets you bought. That would greatly increase the amount of weight the hooks could take before coming off.
Well, certainly won't be an easy task to match the uneven spacing of those grommets when that tarp/awning material needs replacing. I would have measured. Would also have placed the grommets further in from the edge of the tarp to allow for some free material to go over the roof.
I love your style of teaching......could you please learn how to quilt and do some videos for that:)
If i only had the patience ... Thanks !!!
Darn good idea there.
great video! Im going to try this on my horse trailer. what kind of screws did you use tho?
pan head self tapping.. maybe #8 3/4 or 1 in
I'm surprised we haven't crossed paths @ the Harbor Freight lol... BTW, the 5x8 trailer will probably be back on the streets soon in a new capacity.
the new 6x12 i have is for sale :)
I know a guy who might be interested. How much are you asking for it?
its all New trailer and parts, i got about $6000 invested not including labor. Would take $5500 . Everything is new and works great . Build is on here czcams.com/video/0ABdSMTUdRw/video.html
Okay, I'll tell him, see what he says.
Good solution
I don't know, I dont think Id be drill holes in my cargo trailer for a harbor freight tarp.
how does it hold in the wind?
What are the things called that are on the poles to slide the awing up or down?
just a slip knot
Do you have ideas of how to cover the gap between the edge of the tarp and edge of the trailer? Not sure if mounting those directly on top of the roof would be a good idea or not :S. Anyways thoughts?
+Kpri P i would take an extra tarp and cut a strip .. secure it to the existing tarp and roof with velcro
