      Features just have some chance to spawn in every chunk and can’t extend out of the chunk they spawn in since that would cause them to load and generate another chunk and cascade infinitely. In reality the game populates features in chunks offset from the main chunk grid by 8 blocks, so they’re chunks centered between 4 chunks. That way features at the edge can extend past the border and still be in a loaded chunk.
      Structures instead are effectively scattered across the world and then chunks figure out what parts of the structure they would contain from that. This way the game can generate structures piecemeal without needing to generate the whole thing at once.

Mostly pants is fine, exclusively pants is just annoying, especially when they so often spawn with highest level enchants so you can't even combine them for better stuff or anything, kinda just takes up inventory space after the first couple. Plus there are other ways to hint you need to use it on pants, and even with NO hints, swift sneak sounds like an armour enchant and its not like there are that many types of armour it could potentially apply to, so not showing you its a pants thing wastes like 30 seconds max, and only the first time you get it. I don't think that's worth making the armour loot pants and pants and pants and pants.

    Locking the ancient city behind the dragon is basically taking horizontal progression and forcing it to be vertical. As far as "Minecraft needs more progression," this doesn't add anything more, it just removes the player's choice. And since so few players even beat the ender dragon, there'd also be less players exploring ancient cities.
    You could argue the nether is a set of biomes with more gold ore. Similarly, fossils only generate in deserts and swamps, and the deep dark generates more often underneath mountains. Diamonds generate more often with reduced air exposure, which includes aquifers and underneath a layer of sculk / moss. And buffing iron and copper generation won't even matter much since they can already generate in giant ore veins.

    • @thehayze259
      @thehayze259  Před 2 měsíci +239

      I FORGOT ABOUT ORE VEINS i wish we had more different kinds of ore veins, and have htem generate in specific areas (so like large gold ore veins in mesas alongside their increased small-vein spawning, or coal veins near certain places too? lapis veins that generate near where there's mineshafts and woodland mansions, implying the illagers might have used those mineshafts to gather lapis for magic stuff, that would be cool, add that to some of their lore and make it useful for something else magic related in a new update)

    • @theblaezeon6149
      @theblaezeon6149 Před 2 měsíci +27

      @orang63 ...but he made this occurrence rarer. There's no point to it being rarer. As to your other point... yes? Like, if you're talking on a player basis, then maybe no, because someone who hasn't beaten the dragon might chicken out. But on a game by game basis, this argument falls apart because I imagine the MAJORITY of skilled players are probably challenging the warden before the dragon, because the warden is the same difficulty end game or early game- sure, with full netherite you'll probably survive a hit, but if you're in melee range of the warden, it's already over. In fact, for a skilled player, it makes sense to challenge the warden as early as possible because that's when they're still vulnerable and could use the recovery compass the most (and getting swift sneak early on is also a boon)

  • @KrisRogos
    @KrisRogos Před měsícem +503

    I'm amazed that neither JetStarfish nor Hayze mention the big problem with exploration-inventory management. I recently started a new world, and after a while, I wanted to get some blocks I didn't have access to before. Problem is, within 1000 blocks, I passed 3 new biomes and completely filled my inventory.
    This puts a major blocker in any sort of long term exploration if 2-day's treck is the most you can go before running out of space. Having 2 bases that are more than a day's journey away also is troublesome as you can't easily transport goods between them, so if you have multiple bases they all have to be self-sustaining.
    I do think this is solvable:
    - changing stack sizes and making backpacks/bundles actually work would help in early exploration.
    - minecart trains that can go out of loaded chunks and operate on a schedule
    - ability to "employ" wandering traders to transport items between set locations
    Though I'm sure they all come with many downsides and there are probably better solutions. Either way, exploration won't be fixed by making it more tideous to find structures and made more rewarding by locking off certain blocks/items arbitrarily. It will only be fixed by making the actual movement from A-2-B more engaging.

I find it far more fun to get the enchanted diamond gear, armor trims, and golden apples when i'm just starting the game (between full iron and nothing) than if i were to go mining for the diamonds.

      24:57, sorry for so many comments but you're bringing up a lot of good points which i have to agree with and support.
      The nether has many of it own biomes with useful resources yes, but he is also forgetting to mention anything about BUILDER interests, and seeing as builders arguably make up a good 60-70% of the minecraft community it's VERY important to cater towards them if you are in fact going to make changes to the game. As of right now we builders have to travel all over the world for woods, terracotta, clay, sand and red sand, coral (which can be used in redstone,) prismarine, mushroom blocks, and many, many more blocks and items only findable in the many different regions of Minecraft. the exploration need for minecraft is there, and it's necessity is justified, only possible thing needed for exploration in minecraft is faster early-game transportation but in my eyes that's covered by ice boats bridges, railways and dolphins. In the late game we can go faster than ever before with elytra, and so exploration doesn't really need many more motivators.
      if we're going to talk about the tryhards of the game, those people who want to find and conquer every single thing they see, there's still plenty of arguments to be made supporting the whole exploration thing. There are many advancements that require you to have very biome-specific things, thus making it so most players have to travel the world in order to get all the advancements.
      However if you want the game to be more of a linear RPG, or a pvp game then go to servers and try out some mods, they tend to do amazing at making the game more fun for those kinds of players (and if you're buying this illegal mod in the first place why not go get some of the free mods out there, like XP Tomes which adds books you can store up to 30 levels in.)
      the game even caters towards the PvE style of players because of the large variety of mobs you can fight, all of which you need to adventure around for if you want to defeat one of each mob (which is an advancement in and of itself.)

      33:54, yet again i have to agree with you here, lapis has so much potential but it's one of the most useless items in the game, with even it's block looking hideous in many many builds (objectively,) all while in woodland mansions there are evoker statues that hold a little piece of lapis in their hand, suggesting that the Evokers get their magical powers from said lapis.
      Lapis is also required in enchanting further supporting the suggestion of lapis holding magical properties, and one idea i have for this is a magic update, which adds a lapis staff you could put enchantments on, such as flame for a fireball staff, channeling for a thunderbolt staff, and a few custom enchantments such as warp for long-range teleportation to make it slightly more useful for late game instead of pearls. The staff would also use the Dragon Egg as it's crystal, using the Dragon's magic as a basis for it's first useful spell, dragon breath. I would also suggest making the Dragon Egg renewable, making it so killing the dragon after respawning it would drop another egg (which i personally thought would make more sense than a dragon egg only dropping for the very first dragon.) Perhaps add a cooldown to the respawned ender dragon making it so the egg will only spawn after leaving the dragon alive for a certain amount of time. Although this staff would be quite powerful it would help add a ranged alternative to pvp, especially with the recent arrival of the mace which has the chance to one-hit someone in maxed netherite.

    The funniest thing about this whole concept, is that he's essentially just going "Vanilla Minecraft has problems and you should solve them with modding!" and like, at that point if we're gonna mod the game anyways, why would I pay 8 dollars to play his specific mod when I could download a modpack that does a million more things like adding a hundred new biomes and more resources spread out across more areas and more things to build with everything in the game and so on.
    Hell if you want a specific vanilla friendly mod to improve exploration I would recommend the Yung Structure mods that turn things like mineshafts and desert temples and whatnot into actually interesting dungeons with things to explore and puzzles to solve in them that are really cool and have tons of fun rewards, and those mods do plenty on their own to already make me wanna explore the world a ton more without any of the other changes he brought up.
    Also yeah I 100% agree that if he paid hundreds of dollars for this mod to be made he was scammed lol. I haven't gotten into Minecraft Modding just yet, (I really should tho tbh) but even I know that changing a few values and adding one or two new recipes is really not a big ask

      Even outside of better mods already existing, the exploration not being good enough for some people isn't a "problem" - it's a reason to get creative and make those mods in the first place. Minecraft in general is filled with blanks on purpose, for the players and the devs to fill in themselves.
      "I came up with some ideas to add more exploration elements to Minecraft, since I like exploration and want to do it more" is functionally the same as "Vanilla Minecraft doesn't do enough for exploration, and I, Jesus 2, will tell you the perfect solution". Both express genuine passion for the game, but one was inspired by the chance to add more, and the other expresses dejection that anything needed to be changed at all.
      Sure, Minecraft has issues (the Elytra should probably be countered by *something* other than ice boats or piston bolts), but I think it's far better for it to be flawed at the edges and encourage the most dedicated players to customise the game to their liking with mods, than for it to already be perfect and have one perfect way to play it.

    I think the reason people shit on copper rather than lapis is the fact that majority of copper's uses are only aesthetic, while lapis is used for enchanting, a function incredibly helpful for survival. Copper has more creative use but no survival use. Lapis has more survival use but (almost) no creative use. Ultimately, most of the players complaining about copper are much more survival-focused and aren't interested in the creative uses that copper has to offer, generally.

    • @thedarter
      @thedarter Před 2 měsíci +179

      I personally think copper should be given a little more practical use, simply because of it being a common ore. Not necessarily progression related, maybe something to aid other, more relaxed playstyles, such as a way to improve farming or fishing or building. I am perfectly okay with its *main* use being purely decorative, though. I just think it has great potential for adding to casual minecraft.

    • @IceFireofVoid
      @IceFireofVoid Před 2 měsíci +64

      Copper not having survival uses and only creative uses isn't really accurate either. Honestly the way copper was implemented was really good and a lot of alternatives people want are short-sighted and not great.
      Copper was added with Caves and Cliffs, which basically tripled the height of the world and added giant caves that would be constantly dark. In this context, the spyglass was a really good feature since people would want a zoom now more than ever, which was an extremely popular feature people would mod into the game. Now we have a vanilla zoom, and in the update where it makes the most sense for it to be in.
      And for it being mostly decorative...that just makes sense. It could maybe have more redstone components yeah, but the one I see a lot is people saying they wish it made armour and standard tool sets, which actually makes zero sense. Not just with irl copper but in terms of progression. Where would you put copper? Between stone and iron? It would suck then, because iron is so easily accessible. You can make at least 3 different types of auto iron farms (golem, zombie and general mob farm) and iron is in practically every loot pool in the game. It is absurdly easy to have full iron from looting shipwrecks, which are super common. As well as it being a common ore. If copper made armour and toolsets, why would you ever craft them when you can skip straight to iron and it would be probably even easier to get? A mostly decorative use is exactly what copper needs to have in order to stand out and have a reason to exist.
      And copper being primarily decorative is WHY it is a common ore. It's something that's treated similarly to stone bricks. It has to be accessible for it to properly work as a versatile building block. You can make decorative blocks out of all the ore types, but none of them have crafting recipes to make them into such diverse block types with so many colours and textures.

      Copper itself could be the opposite of Gold, highly durable like Iron/Diamond but it gets bad enchantments. This would be great for going caving between stone and iron meaning any surface iron is now more viable for tools like Buckets and Sheers which are best saved for after you have an full set of armor.
      This would also double to make Copper tools great for using Books on, so Efficiency on a Copper Axe or Pick would be much healthier then on Diamond or Iron. They would last longer then Iron giving their enchantments more value.
      This now fills a niche before you have full iron armor and offering alternatives for style or a surface life style where Iron is much more valuable in tools which can only be made with it.

      @yvaskhmir Před měsícem +13

      @sky-trevishere9638 I mean, shulkers aren't hard at all. Like all things in the game, mostly a matter of preparation. When you're hit, you have ground under your feet, the upwards speed isn't very high, so you can easily counter the levitation effect with a bucket of water or a boat, which renders the entire levitation effect useless, not to mention, by the time you're there, you probably have feather falling already, which makes the above more like a suggestion, than anything mandatory. And the knockback is very small, so you can easily move in such a way that you fall onto the block where you've been hit.
      And even if you're woefully underprepared, yet another thing that entirely counters shulkers can be found all around you where you fight them - chorus fruit.

      And, even IF we agree it's too easy to obtain, how is making it more rare a good thing? It's forcing players to spend even longer in the End Islands, that are entirely empty outside of End Cities. Traversing through the End Islands is just so boring and unfun; once you've been there for 5min, you've seen everything there is to be seen there.

    I think the main issue with JetStarfish's critiques is that they're motivated purely from a progression standpoint, and in trying to "fix" the game he wants to simplify progression into a vertical line.
    The player choice present in Minecraft's horizontal progression is apparently a problem (like when he says players having one central storage area is bad) that must be solved by restricting playstyles until everyone is progressing through the game in the same most optimal way (like blocking off ancient cities until you defeat the ender dragon to give them a single spot in progression, ignoring the some people might just like alternative transportation methods to elytra even if not "optimal," ignoring ways to get enchantments other than villager trade grinding)
    If you're speedrunning the game, the aesthetic uniqueness of biomes and building block variation doesn't matter to you. If you're grinding for max gear, all trees look the same because they all give you wood, and desert wells and other flavor features seem useless. If all you care about is progress and striving for efficiency, you miss half of the game, and any feature that isn't part of that progression looks useless (like spyglasses and lightning rods, building blocks, archeology)

    People like this don't understand the point of a sandbox is game that you can do whatever and progression isn't straightforward, as well as the biggest reason minecraft has "useless" items and blocks is for sake of giving players who enjoy building and redstone and who enjoy playstyles other than playing purely to kill the ender dragon things to play around with too because those players exist and killing the ender dragon isn't the only point of the game, but then again since this guy really seems to want on rails progression for a SANDBOX GAME (so stupid) I think don't think he understands the concept of alternate playstyles

    Two things that get me:
    1. The assumption that the Warden is meant to be fought, and as such locking it behind the Dragon. The Warden is an *obstacle*, it's meant to be the *warden* that keeps you away if you mess up. The whole point of the mob isn't as a boss entity, it's a constant threat. Sure you can fight it, but it's intentionally overpowered.
    2. In a video that wants to encourage you to explore, he removed some of the incentives the game *already has*. By making Biome locked Villager trades just more common instead of *actually locked*, you can just keep all your villagers in one place and roll the slot machine over and over until the villager gives you the enchant you want, because they're no longer locked to the biome! You know, like how it was up until 1.21? That's actively discouraging exploration and encouraging mindless grinding!
    Also it's a little thing, but one of the reasons I don't think ice boat highways should be nerfed is they're exclusive to the tryhards. No average player is going to put a boat on some ice and learn how fast it goes. Minecarts, Horses and even the Elytra are all obvious transportation methods. But ice boat highways are just... not. The only people who use those are people that already know they exist!

      I'll push back on this. Outside of spaces where doing work for free is the norm, people pay for labor, and without any intent to sound sarcastic, that can be a real shock when you've grown up with your only context for development being free video game mods. It was for me, and now I actually write Java professionally for work. People develop and release mods for free not because it's easy and their labor isn't worth anything, but because they're willing to set aside the cost of their labor and work for free out of passion. They're completely correct that their pricing is no one's business but theirs and their client's. A developer's time has a set cost regardless of how much effort you perceive a project to require and "hundreds of dollars" is not at all unrealistic for this kind of thing. That's something for the developer and their client to negotiate and no one else. Content creators also often exploit knowledgeable people for free labor since they're able to leverage their parasocial connection and the exposure they'd get from their work being featured. How often do you hear some youtuber say "I made this cool thing" but it's actually the work of some random guy in their Discord? This is a really obnoxious issue and I'm glad to see that for once someone is actually being paid to do some youtuber's project.

    that one line in jet's outro section where he called builders pussies really, really struck me. because i think that casual little joke, with the context of the sentence before it, just lays bare his entire philosophy about this game in one stroke.
    and, no surprise, that apparent philosophy is top-to-bottom hot trash.
    he acknowledges that minecraft is a game with many different playstyles, seems to make a token nod to the fact that the core of minecraft's design is about openness and lack of restriction - and then he says 'yeah anyone who's taking this gameplay route is a little bitch ngl'. which also kind of explains why he completely omits mentioning swift sneak - outside of his 'disingenuously trying to sell you something' angle i really just don't think he gives a shit about it, and he thinks it's useless. this all pretty openly establishes that he values certain playstyles above others in a game where that hierarchy does not naturally exist.
    but more specifically, it makes a clear statement about what his hierarchy looks like. this asserts it as the typical 'pro gamer bro' lean that prioritizes doing the cool, 'action-y' shit. (and honestly, this is pretty obvious from other little things - mostly the way he only describes the process of looting an ancient city as a fight, an action segment you have to survive hits from, when a more tactful and slow-paced approach can negate the action aspects entirely. you can turn it into more of a stealth puzzle!)
    which, hey, that's a fine way to play minecraft on its own! be aggressive! go apeshit, have fun!
    but then he designs his mod in a way that will railroad other players towards doing those things. he portends that he's thinking of builders, but then under his system a builder who wants to use sculk is going to have to go fight the fucking ender dragon to find it reliably. his mod has decided it's his way or the highway in a game where the entire point is 'hey do whatever you want however you want'.
    and like, i know you don't have to use his mod. you can just play vanilla. but the base design vision of the mod is bad from the word go. he's not just 'solving' problems that don't exist, not only creating new problems, he is actively designing for the antithesis of the game he's purporting to fix and ending up with a mess. and he's making you pay Eight Dollars for it. maddening. an absolutely maddening, brazen lack of self awareness. though i guess using the same dull ass racist joke 6-7 times in a row made that pretty obvious already?

You can’t always have big, game-changing updates, because then it gets to chaotic. The try hards forget that the hook of Minecraft is that *you* build the game as you play. I think sometimes people forget Minecraft is a sandbox game that doesn't force one specific play style or progression route on the player, you progress and play however you want to which is Minecraft's biggest appeal.
      Minecraft is not and never was meant to be an RPG, and I really don't see why people struggle to understand that fact.

That's quite a huge leap to make and is quite defamatory, but this man IS actively spreading misinformation about this game so he can make his pay-to-access mod seem more useful and enticing, i think it's completely fair to do the same thing to him.
      Honestly i just don't trust this side of the community, anyone who makes "Mojang is so lazy, i could program super death god bosses and guns into this game in a day" type comments just seem like shady individuals to me honestly, like it's not actually the game they have beef with Mojang about, it's just that complaining about the game is the only criticism they can make aimed at Mojang without seeming like complete jackasses. I try to give some of them more of the benefit of the doubt but i swear, whenever i do, they do something gross that makes me immediately back up on that benefit of the doubt.

    IMO the main problem with Minecraft's exploration isn't lack of incentive or lack of reward, it's how much storage space a Minecraft world takes when you do a lot of exploring. Behind inventory management, I think file size is the number one barrier to exploration in Minecraft.

      Minecraft is such a horribly optimized game on both versions, and it gets worse every update.
      They’re putting off fixing it, because they’ll have to rewrite most of the spaghetti code that the game is built off of, and that would take forever. But they will *eventually* have to do it, or the game will just become unplayable.
      Most Java players need mods like Optifine or Sodium to run the game smoothly, and I think it’s a shame how few people criticize Mojang for that.
      If you needed a mod for a game like Elden Ring, BotW, or Fallout to run smoothly, do you even know how many people would be ripping them to shreds?
      And Minecraft is the *biggest* game in the world, it shouldn’t get any excuses. A lot of people still treat Mojang like the small indie company that they used to be, when they’re anything but.

Honestly if you are careful about crouching, break shriekers, and have a safe room out of the range of the warden's scream attack where you can go wait out your cooldown if you accidently spawn a couple, it's pretty easy, because *no other hostile mobs spawn in the deep dark*. Made everything much easier. I just would go up for supplies now and again, but my home was down there. I never killed the dragon, or even got diamond gear I didn't loot there.
    So like... how difficult it is depends entirely on how patient and thorough you are with your defensive measures, and keeping your bearings so you can book it back to your safe room in a pinch. And I'm not a particularly good player! Saying it "should be somethin people are exploring after they kill the dragon" like m8 i've never killed the dragon in single player and I probably never will. Ancient cities are one of the best structures in the game.
    1. Swift sneak
    2. Free diamond leggings (sometimes with max enchants if you are lucky)
    3. Free diamond hoes (sometimes with max enchants if you are lucky)
    4. Enchanted Golden Apples.
    5. Random enchanted books.
    6. There are no mob spawns in the deep dark so the structure is relatively mob free. The warden isn't that dangerous, you can very easily avoid them even if you spawn more than one in. Even if you do spawn wardens in, the structure is so large you could just go somewhere else within it without any time loss. Its free loot. He has this belief that the purpose of the warden is to be killed by an end game player, but its really just a balancing change made to the structure to keep people on their toes; you can avoid the warden with no armor perfectly fine.
    7. I've found enough books in an ancient city to make a max enchanting table, combine this with the fact that sculk is a really fast way of getting lots of levels and the fact that there will be many diamonds hidden beneath the sculk, you could get a max enchanted diamond armor and tool set (minus mending probably) solely by mining diamonds in the city itself. I have done this before. How anyone could think that this is the worst structure in the entire game is beyond me.
    I'm editing this comment as I watch the video: The abyss explorer map is functionally useless to someone who knows how ancient city generation works. They only ever spawn underneath mountainous areas. Their spawn positions are extremely predictable to the point that no one really needs a map to find them, and I would certainly sequence break this. They're really easy to find. Also you don't need to fight the dragon to get full netherite armor, like he clearly wants you to have before finding the city. Again, blocking the ancient city until someone gets a certain gear set makes 0 sense because the warden is not meant to be fought but avoided.

Then these people can't help but blame the game for whatever reason when it's THEIR fault for playing the game in a way that only lets them play as little of the game as possible, making it boring, stale, and forgettable. Thats the reason why so many people are against selling mods in the marketplace, because how come they allow mods to be sold there, while selling them somewhere else can warrant legal threat

      EULAs have been found many times over the years to be largely unenforceable, and it also depends on the jurisdiction. I find it highly unlikely that anyone was threatened with a court hearing over it.

      Breaking an EULA isn't illegal because an EULA isn't a law it's a contract. That's why Mojang had to threaten legal action and not the state in which the law was broken. It's kinda weird that a video complaining about misinformation (rightfully so) also didn't take the time to look up what the fuck an EULA is or whether breaking it is legal. So no, putting a mod behind a pay wall isn't illegal. No crimes were committed. Jet could be sued by Mojang, but EULAs tend to be unenforceable, although expensive legal fees and the time and effort it takes to fight them often make it impossible for the end user to fight back. Especially if it's a perk on an already existing patreon for Jet's youtube channel or whatever and not even as a special more expensive tier, I don't know if that would legally even be breaking their EULA.

    - 36 decorative copper blocks (72 if you count the waxed versions)
    Lapis is used for:
    -Trims
    - Lapis Blocks
    - Enchanting (While you can technically get around this with books, at least starting any enchanted gear with a table enchantment will save you a ton of exp and emeralds)
    And everything in the game that uses blue, cyan, light blue, Magenta, or Purple dye. So:
    - Leather dyeing
    - Banner patterns
    - 5 candle colors
    - 5 wool and carpet colors
    - 5 concrete and powder colors
    - fireworks
    - 5 shulker box colors
    - 5 glass and glass pane colors
    - 5 terracotta colors

Thats not interesting enough to go to an end city. Its not even game changing. Woodland mansions are useless with the introduction of raids. The warden doesnt even drop anything when you kill it. Ocean monuments only have building blocks and a few blocks of gold which you can get from mining normally. The whole ancient city thing kinda sounds like JetStarfish is assuming that you will _fight the warden_ which just, is not how the area is intended to be played? The warden is so powerful even at endgame _because it is supposed to be a penalty for failing to sneak._ The warden is not a boss you should fight, it is the fail condition of the ancient city.
    In fact the entire video seems to be made from the myopic viewpoint that armor, weapons, enchants, and food are the only things you will ever want. The periphery systems that enable combat are the only reasons to go anywhere or do anything. No! The game is a sandbox, designed for players to do what they find fun. Building, exploring, fighting, redstone, all are equally valid modes of play and if you look at the game from any view except maximizing your ability to fight and not die, then Jet's entire argument falls apart. I think a more useful viewpoint to see the game's balance from is that of balancing the rewards for all styles of play. Any structure, biome, or location should include at minimum some new blocks to build with, something useful if you want to get stronger, and some kind of exploration aid or unique item for those who just want to explore.
    It is fine if Jet personally plays like this, but assuming that all systems that don't purely feed into this playstyle are useless, broken, or irrelevant is dumb. Jet can go make mods that facilitate his method of play if he wants, but he should not assume that his view is the default.

Even if you doubled minecart speed, it would only be useful if you were trying to go like, diagonally a short distance (purely based on mechanics and not looks, roller coaster travel is best travel).
    Personally I think there should be some kind of "Icy Rails" which can get you up to speeds a bit above ice boats, but you derail if you turn while going that fast. It doesn't break existing ice boat fun and gives intensive to make new high-speed travel with them. Plus you could purposely de-rail a minecart to make like, a jump across a gap.

I don't agree with most of his points, as they would cut into the sandbox nature of the game, but to him the sandbox isn't what appeals to him. 15:32 - one word: trading. I personally don't go out into the wild that often prefering to build and I still want to enchant my stuff. However, aside from smelting and occasional villager trade I don't get XP. Meanwhile my friend often leaves for hour and a half and gets back with a bunch of levels. We play in our little group basically in co-op so he gladly enchant all the things that I ask him.
    However, imagine you are in SMP. If you have a good farm, you can make a business out of it
    Edit:
    Finished watching the video and it made me think. The thing is, since I first started playing Minecraft back in 2011 I never built or explored that much. I always was "a sweaty gamer" on a constant grind for resources - huge mines, huge farms, everything must be maxed-out, everything needed a purpose, usefulness above prettiness and so on. That drastically changed when I re-introduced my girlfriend to Minecraft.
    It was pretty recently, already on 1.20. She played it a while ago, back in 1.3, but quickly moved on, so she had a decent grasp of the game, but knew nothing about new stuff. When she first time fell into powdered snow she was genuinely scared. Or when she went travelling on her own to look for villagers after unsuccessful raid and then the whole process of me explaining her how to transport entities on a boat began. She was struggling to get back home (went quite far away) and almost died to a skeletons on the beach. Yet when she came back home she was so, so proud of herself, because what would be for me just a trip was quite an adventure for her.
    And then it hit me. She was *enjoying the game way more than I had been in years.* Or maybe ever. Like, for someone like me, who knows game through and through and who was always goal-focused it was just a simple day-to-day occasions which had no impact on "gameplay" but for her it was an absolutely fresh and exciting experience. We stumbled upon cherry forest on top of circle-shaped mountains and she was in absolute awe.
    I looked at her and suddenly realised that I was playing the game wrong this whole time. I sucked all the fun of it. All the enjoyment and creativity which it ignites in people I exchanged for the over-optimisation. Don't get me wrong, to each it's own, but I genuinely had such a blast when I consciously decided to *not* make a trading hall. To *not* create an iron farm. To *not* min-max every inch of our base's space and to focus on building and exploration. Again, my "sweaty gamer" skillset was quite useful in places like Nether, but when we ventured into these places together, my mentality was not "Let's take this, this and this and then skiddadle" but "Let's just enjoy the trip and have an adventure" and I had infinitely more fun with the game.
    I started to focus more and more on gathering wide array of blocks, mostly decorative, to share them with her and realised that I like building much more than fighting. Gradually I moved on to be mostly builder, occasionally dwelling deep into caves/venturing into Nether to get some more deepslate/blackstone for builds and I absolutely adore this. Moreover, I found that those building tutorials from guys like Grian weren't in vain and I retained some of this knowledge, and when I heard that she liked our little japanese-esque "town hall" I felt like I was in heavens, because I created something and this something was pleasing to somebody else.
    So, in short - not everything must have a purpose. Goats don't have a purpose (horns are fun, but they have next to zero gameplay impact). Powdered snow doesn't have a purpose (again, technically incorrect, but it's highly limited in day-to-day life). Pandas don't have a purpose. Parrots, rabbits, music disks, note blocks, spyglass and like 80% of blocks in the game barely have a use. They just... Are. This is their purpose. To just be. For you to have fun.
    Hearing JetStarfish to say that Desert Well is useless for me is like looking into the mirror. And I feel pity for him. For myself. Because instead of wasting his time he could have enjoyed the game to it's fullest.

      Bro really said Minecraft players need girlfriends. 💀
      In all seriousness tho, i do agree with your perception of the game and i think that the community need to start seeing the game as what it is, a sandbox without a “correct way” of playing it. I myself really enjoy raiding structures and fighting mobs and my primary objectives used to be kill the ender dragon and get the elytra, but once i tried start focusing on other things and mechanics my experience and overall enjoyment of the game improved, getting into building, collecting music discs, flowers and pets served to give me more objectives to fulfill and expand my experience with the game besides getting netherite and fighting the ender dragon.
      I still thing minecraft have a lot of features with wasted potential and i hope mojang eventually improves them (like the sniffer, the ametyst and the woodland mansions) but i think that a great part of the problems modern minecraft has is partially fault of the community itself for having such a plain vision of the game and wanting all players to play exactly as them.

There is one thing encouraging exploration but it’s another to force you to do it and especially in a sandbox game where different player types all get affected by these changes which forces more “grind” for people who don’t see the fun aspect in exploration. If something is not fun anymore the fix is not forcing people to do it anyways just to be able to do the thing they actually want.

      Exploration should partially be about the environments and interesting locations, but even in a sandbox game, there should be things like interesting building blocks, minor loot exclusive to locations, etc. You cannot just say "Oh, but sandbox, so excuses design"... Minecraft has had a lack of reasons to do exploration. A lot of players end up playing in mostly a single biome for the entire game. Not enough ways to ensure a player can get back home, for example. Exploration for the sake of exploration is not a good way to make exploration.
      And saying "The game doesn't make you meet the game's expectations, it's up to you to make them"... and he made his expectations, and they fall short... He would like there to be reasons to explore... • @IceFireofVoid
      @IceFireofVoid Před 2 měsíci +6

      @@superepicdudemccraft5076 I'm going to say something a bit controversial but, and this is coming from someone with about 800 hours of playtime in vanilla Terraria, Terraria has basically all the issues that people say they have with Minecraft but worse. The main one I can think of off the top of my head is the "item bloat/useless item" issue. For example, the ore tool/weapon and armour sets in pre-hardmode. The vast majority of them are completely worthless because you can skip all of them to immediately go to your best in class. Seriously I will play on Master mode, spawn in, maybe make cactus armour but usually just have nothing, go straight to the jungle and get the best magic armour you can get before beating the wall of flesh without having had to fight any boss to get to that point. And the section of the game right after the wall of flesh but right before having beaten any mech boss feels like hot doodoo in terms of progression. It's the one spot in the game that feels the most linear and it is the spot where I have quit the most worlds and never looked back.
      It's wild because when you look at the "useless items" in Minecraft, every single one of them does something specific to itself. I don't get the Terraria comparison as something people keep bringing up as how to "fix" Minecraft. Have they even actually played Terraria? Not saying I dislike Terraria though, I love that game. I love it for completely different reasons. I like the extensive level of customization you have with the character specifically and things like the NPC mechanic and just how much stuff there is to collect in the world. It just has some pretty significant issues with its progression that Minecraft avoids by being completely non-linear.

I ended up playing for about two hours before feeling completely hopeless and stuck. I didn't want to have a wiki page open the whole time i was playing, so i just stopped. Turning Minecraft into a terreria 2 where you have to just know everything or constantly be looking at a wiki page just didn't work for me and a whole lot of other people. • @IceFireofVoid
      @IceFireofVoid Před 2 měsíci +1

      @pippapup7644 Oh yeah Terraria has an issue with having a huge amount of stuff in it and a lot of the best stuff is extremely rare or hyper specific in how you get it, and the majority of what you find along the way is kind of crap. It doesn't really communicate any mechanics to the player particularly well either so you just kinda have to know things. Even with the guide NPC that can tell you everything you can craft with a material, it doesn't really help you know how to get anything. And also the world evil mechanic and how to stop it from spreading. I've had friends who played for the first time and didn't know the world evil spread and get a nasty surprise when their desert one day is just replaced with crimson.
      You'll have wikis open and community forum posts, but sometimes the community is straight up entirely wrong about things. It was long held by the community that you should build for damage and that defense is a waste of time. You hear this over and over for years. Only fairly recently did someone do a full breakdown and realized that damage increase modifiers on gear didn't work how people thought they did and defense is actually insanely overpowered.

    Jet's entire "not experienced enough for Ancient City/too experienced for Ancient City" loop is entirely void! Something I haven't seen others bring up is there IS a way to easily traverse an Ancient City: WOOL. You can be in literal IRON ARMOR & STILL be able to navigate an Ancient City if you bring enough WOOL with you to 1) muffle your movement, and 2) literally disable skulk sensors & skulk shriekers. To my knowledge this function has not been changed. This alone PROVES Ancient Cities are NOT centered around progression, they're centered around SKILL. If you know what you're DOING, you can enter an Ancient City at ANY point in the game & not deal with a single Warden!
    Now if wool's function in Ancient Cities HAS been changed & I'm just not aware of it, my argument is also void to a degree. But this still would hold more water than Jet's points lol.

      You’re completely correct about wool disabling shriekers and sensors. If you can fully cover one in wool sound won’t get to it. Now it can be tricky to do so, but with a set of sheers, an easily accessible ancient city, and a sheep farm you can loot an ancient with without iron gear (now it would make it so much easier, but it’s not needed). Honestly if you have access to potions night vision really helps as well since it lets you see the whole area without vision problems, helps minimize the blinding effect of the warden, and stops you from making noise through placing torches. The only problem is you’ll need like 20 points to clear out a city so it’s a later game thing instead of early game.
