Unboxing The Cricut Explore 3! How To Use This For Bag Making?!

  • Today’s video is just a fun, figure it out session. I’ve had my Cricut Explore 3 sitting in a box for ages, and it’s time to bust it out and start playing with a new bag making tool. I love that so many pattern designers offer SVG files with the pattern pieces. This way, you can use an automatic cutting device to take all the precise and tedious work of pattern cutting off your plate!
Quick Note: After all the attempts, I found using the Faux Suede Setting, 2 passes and more pressure was ideal for thicker vinyl. Using the Faux Leather - Paper Thin setting, 2 passes and more pressure worked well with cork and thinner vinyl.
    Happy Sewing!

Hi! Just a tip-when you check to make sure it cut, dont hit the release button, just hit cut so that way it will recut in the exact same place!
-super thick faux leather, and chunky glitter work well using the extra heavy fabric setting.

@@laurasandy4479 I have the first maker. I’ve used it to cut cork and leather keychains but not fabric. Here’s the link to Jess’ pattern templates tutorial czcams.com/video/y0QXsRyrsRs/video.html. There isn’t a video of a cricket cutting the cutting board that I know of. I load the digital file to my circuit, remove the background and save it as a SVG. Make sure to keep the test square so you can size the pattern. Slap the cutting board on the mat then let the circuit cut out the template. Can’t remember what settings I use you’ll have to test your machine to see what works. Hope this helps. It would work the same if you want to cut fabric I guess.

Update: I experimented on vinyl, textured vinyl, shiny vinyl, cork, PUL and quilt cotton. Success! All I have is and old standard blade and standard mat that I wipe down and used washi tape. I started with cut settings from an old video and they worked perfectly.I did not adjust down enough for the cork and PUL, it cut the mat,but I can play with that. The old mat was not sticky enough for quilt cotton even with washi tape so did not work well. I have ordered the proper supplies for fabric cutting.I am thrilled my 5 year old Scanncut2 is up to the job.
My least favorite task is cutting out fabric no matter how many times I measure I am always off. This will be a game changer. Thanks for the video, please do more!!!

Great video! I have a Maker (original one) and use for both crafting and sewing projects. I cut vinyl for t-shirts, mugs, signs, and anything else I can put vinyl on. I have recently started using it to cut materials for making bags and other sewing. The Maker also does a great job of cutting out templates for any pattern I will make several times. It's such a versatile machine; I use it all the time! I do like that more and more patterns are being released in SVG format, yay!

Great demo. I’m getting ready to cut out a little vinyl clutch myself.

i have a cameo 3 and am looking to upgrade so i can cut fabric and vinyl..... can't decide if i got with the 4 or go to the dark side and get a cricut??? I watched a video on importing patterns (non-svg) into design space to cut and it looked really easy but I am a Silhouette person so am torn! How does the 4 go with fabric?

I got myself a silhouette in December😁 in hopes of cutting designs out of the pattern piece instead of sewing them on top.. I didn't try yet. Lol but thats what I wanted it for.

Love your videos!!!! I know nothing about these cutting machines. But I want to, your video was so helpful!!! Is it true you have to pay a monthly fee to use them? Thank you. ❤

Thanks for sharing your trials and errors. For me, most new projects have a certain amount of wasted materials to get what I expect. Yes, please do a video on cutting applique shapes for embroidery.

Hi Jess, not sure if this was already answered or if you have figured this out, but you can choose to do multiples when cutting using the Explore by changing the number next to Project Copies (shown right above your mat image).
Been binge watching your tutorials. 🙂

If you want, you can create your own setting and name it whatever you want. I created a setting that cuts the plastic chopping mats for templates.

If you don’t mind, could you share your settings for cutting the chopping mats? I’ve tried about 5 times so far and I’m still trying to finesse the perfect settings.

You should be able to do custom settings and create your own if in the menu you were in you go all the way to the bottom you should be able to add your own.
I love my Cricut Maker. Need to use it for more bag making things.
