- This is my Mercury Hg for Xbox 360 (also available on PS3) speedrun in 23:03 which is likely the World Record since I can't find any evidence that anyone has actually run this game like this. (Timing is from hitting A to start the first level, Hydrogen, and goes until the "Finish" screen of the last level, Xenon.
Since there's no strictly defined order or ending in the game itself (even the credits are elsewhere in the menus), I instead play all 60 levels in a row, going straight to next level after the completion of a level until Xenon, which has no such option. I went specifically for a no retry run even when it would have only lost a few seconds because watching a level be reset over and over for some dumb strat isn't a good run.
I use real time because of the game's in game timer having a gimmick regarding the merge mechanic where a separated blob can be recombined by some sort of magnetic attraction. (Mercury is not magnetic but the game seems to think it is anyway.) To explain it simply, the game increases the rate at which its timer runs while blobs are being attracted. The first level that uses this mechanic is the sixth, Potassium, and it shows up again throughout the game, including in levels where it's not inherently required but is faster in real time to use. The other reason is that I prefer the quicker pace of the between level menu when it's being counted for time, even if it is just mashing A until the next level countdown starts.
The reason I use an existing file is due to the difficulty of resetting your file, as it's not an option within the game. To reset you would need to exit the game and manually delete the file from your hard drive. This is not exactly feasible when you might want to reset before the second group of levels several runs in a row.
The game is pretty simple overall, it's a vaguely Monkey Ball type game with more of a puzzle focus, as the color and switch mechanics probably demonstrate. In many levels I end up skipping intended portions of puzzles or in fact whole sections of levels thanks to the actual mechanics of the blob. Notable instances are Radium (13th level of 1st group), Scandium (1st level of 2nd group), Gallium (7th level of 3rd group and my personal favorite strat), Palladium (9th level of 3rd group), Silicon (4th level of 4th group), Tin (10th level of 4th group) and Bromine (6th level of 5th group). The riskiness of these skips vary, with Gallium and Bromine likely leading the group.
All strats that I use in this run were developed independently by me, although I'm sure I wasn't the first to find any of it. A lot of the time I saved over my own previous PB of 26-27 minutes came from further discoveries of reliable strats.
Regarding the fact that many levels have leaderboard times that are twice or more as fast as the times in this run, a lot of IL times use strats that are not at all reliable for more than IL attempts. For instance, Niobium (level 9 group 2) has an IL under 6 seconds when my time in this run is about 38. This is because the IL does a ridiculous "jump" that skips basically the whole level but it's just not something you'd attempt in a run where that's that's over 5 minutes in and isn't the first super risky IL strat.
I got basically every single strat and skip that I know is reliable in this run, so any time to come off this would be in optimizing movement further and only really come from a few seconds at best over all levels in a group. I may eventually go for sub 23 but this is a very solid run that I'm happy with for now.

This was my game as a kid, along with beautiful katamari. I wanna play it again, but I don't believe I have the resources to.
Probably would only require getting a 360/PS3 assuming you still have access to your account that had the game. I'm not actually sure if you can buy it any more.
